New Directions Products, Required By My Doc For Pre Op
Peggy 53 replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a lot of time that goes into selecting products. They are NOT all equal. Your MD office has had the opportunity to sample a lot of other products and has chosen what is best in nutritional profile based on ASMBS Now if you ( a medical professional) can get all those free samples, knock yourself out, otherwise you'll be spending a lot of money on bad product. I too am a 'medical professional' and work with a Bariatric surgeon. Trust me, I'm very familiar with the process. One thing to keep in mind is that you will not need the shakes the rest of your life. You need the pre- op and in your post op healing process. I choose to have a shake for Breakfast because it is quick and easy ( well that is quicker than eating eggs). As for your MVT's always goes with quality over price. Your life really does depend on it -

Buy an electric blanket. I have a small one for my chair and another one on the bed. Problem is, I also have to share it with the cats!

I'm in! I have yet to start exercise at 2 months , but it's time! It will be challenging as I have a conference to go to as well. I'm also going to commit to 60 miles of walking for the month. It's a big goal...but I'm going for it!

Surgery 8/28. Pre-op 229...DOS 221... Today 198. I really need to get to the gym cuz clearly my metabolism is slow despite less than 800 cals / 60 gm protein and 70 gm carbs daily. One day at a time. This is not a race. This is forever

I did not have this surgery to give up food forever!
Peggy 53 replied to Ashleyp24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with Butter, Laura and GG..... While I'm only 2 months out, I still pretty stick to my eating plan, I enjoy good food. Went to Bahamas Breeze yesterday...had the fish tacos with a side of fresh fruit.... I just didn't eat the flour tortillas. Actually I couldn't have anyway cuz I was full. Didn't finish the fruit either. So many people I have talked with weight regain all have said that it just started with a bite of this and taste of that. It come down to knowing yourself. Your triggers. There are foods I love that I had to kiss goodbye forever, cuz I know one bite is not enough. There are other foods that I can be a be more moderate on, once I get to goal that is. For now, no way. My goal is GOAL. I'm not craving, jonesing , begging or pleading. I get up and make a good healthy plan. I'm not doing this again! 45 yrs of dieting is enough. I guess I just finally 'grew up' when it came to food and eating. I listen to the wisdom of the successful old timers...I'm with ya guys! -
Help i am 3 weeks post op
Peggy 53 replied to HalloweenBaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That as the challenge. If the calories in- calories out theory were true we would all be skinny. The answer is metabolism. Yes- too few calories will stall weight loss, even if it's all protein. Immediately post op it is normal to get in about 450-550 cals daily.... But that picks up as you heal. So how many grams of protein are you eating, what kind of carbs? Has the Doc checked thyroid, serum insulin and cortisol levels? You may have an underlying metabolic problem -

What do you guys have your MFP nutrition targets set to?
Peggy 53 replied to outwithbenjiboi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I set MFP primarily for the grams of protein and carbs and let the MFP program calculate the fats. I use olive oil regularly and butter when I want it. I'd rather use butter than manufactured margarine...I don't care who makes it....it manufactured! -
What was worse? Pre-op diet vs. post-op

Peggy 53 replied to outwithbenjiboi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have MFP set for 1000 cals. Protein is 45%. Carb is 35% and fat is 20% I'm pretty close most days..... That's about 60-65gms of protein and 60-80 gms of carbs. This is set by my dietician. I just kept playing with the settings to get the numbers -
You're having the slimes! It comes from Eating too fast, or too much. Listen to your belly. It was trying to tell you the first time. 4 ounces is about right. But you have got to wait until your belly is empty before eating or drinking again. You're trying to rush it. Been there, done that got the t-shirt one too many times. You'll get the hang of it!

By my calculation she's 7-9 weeks out? Something is definitely not right. Find out what size bougie was used. It should be a36 or 38 , but some MDs will use a 40-42....too small. Vomiting the first week, even the second week...but this far out.... Is she able to tolerate anything? The esophagus and the new stomach can become pretty irritated and inflamed with that much vomiting, so liquids would be the recommendation.. Sips, not gulps. Breath and relax...but I would be calling that office for sure

Whats it like being under and waking up from surgery?
Peggy 53 replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like waking up from the best sleep ever...and wanting to stay there. This was my 4 th surgery and the only one that was rough was the open hysterectomy. This laparoscopic thing is the best. -
Not a problem. Our protocol had me with 2 shakes a day and a meal with veges and meat. Just stay away from the carbs. You'll be fine!
