I was told that Tylenol is basically the only pain killer I can take. I am still early stages post surgery so I use the liquid form.
-
I think it is prob normal. I had similar issues for a week or so after surgery. If you had a liquid diet prior to surgery and now your system is healing I would almost think it to be expected.

I insist that all of my dairy and meat products are organic. I stock up on eggs, cheese, yogurt and chicken breasts. They also have a wide variety of good soups and meatless chili that is tasty.

So far, not loving my sleeve
jenlen replied to Readytobeskinny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My weight loss stalled out on the 10th day post op for 3 solid weeks. I was taking in 250-350 daily at that time and completely flabbergasted! By 5th week I was getting in 750 cals and steady weight loss resumed. Just like everyone else is saying here, gotta give your body time to adjust and realize that many of us will lose in spurts. Maintaining a consistent healthy diet and exercise WILL yield results over time but if you just measure one day at a time you might drive yourself completely mad. -
5'1" here op was on 5/21/13 i have lost about 33 pounds since DOS.

My doc said she was alright with me having 1 cup of coffee per day. My Dad's doc says 2-3 cups of coffee or tea is fine :-/ Wish I would have gone to him instead j/k I totally need a jolt of caffeine in order to get my brain out of the morning fog, 1 cup seems to do the trick just fine.

Anyone feel "judged" by medical personell at the hospital?
jenlen replied to Gardengirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
99.99% of all the staff involved in my care at the hospital were superb. One nurse that I encountered briefly during my second morning was ..... odd. She made some unusual remarks in an attempt to be funny I suppose but came off as mocking and insensitive. She was laughing about all the Breakfast items that were being served and pointing out that I could not have any of them (not that I wanted any of them anyway) then she asked the other attendant to go "get me a plate of bacon so I can stand here and eat it right in front of her (me)". I did report this incident to the nurse in charge later as I thought it was a bit over the line. It was a brief encounter that made me feel uncomfortable but I mostly just put it out of my mind and focused on the truly caring individuals who were quite supportive. -

Also, my Dr said to expect to lose about 1 pound per week at this stage. So your 4 pounds in 3 weeks is not off track. What kind of exercising are you doing? I was very inactive pre op due to pain. I have been swimming a lot lately and do some resistance training in the Water and with stretchy bands. I am trying to work up to more resistance training in the 'real' gym as I know building muscle will increase my metabolism. Lots of trial and error and just trying things until I find what works best for me. -

I a 7 weeks out today. I stalled out for 3 weeks in a row after my 10th day post op. when my carbs creep up I will stall for a day or two. As soon as I cut them back I lose .5 pound a day (knock on wood). I know this will slow down but I am still in the early stages. -

When I stall I have to check my: carbs, Protein and exercise. For me I lose best if carbs stay below 40, protein at 80 and a good 30 mins of exercise a day (more when I can). My cals have been around 850. Are you tracking your food intake? Sometimes a bit of tweaking helps. Oops had to edit, 40 carbs, not 49. -
I want in . I am only 7 weeks out and have been increasing my exercise each week. I would like to set my goal at being down 20 pounds by Labor Day.

At 3 weeks I struggled to get 250-300 cal per day (and still stalled/slumped in weightloss). By the 5th week I was able to get 500-600 per day a began losing weight again. Now I am consistently hitting 800 cals a day (7 weeks out). And I feel as though this is too much. I am struggling with the whole 'head hunger' challenge now as my stomach very rarely actually feels hungry. So in short.....I would say yes, it's normal

I was self pay in the States. I called different groups/hospitals in my area (StLouis) I found Mercy bariatric (about 45 miles out from me) was the most affordable. My total was 15,500. It was a smaller hospital but I received most excellent care there. I did consider that it may be more affordable in a year or so but getting my life back, decreasing pain and increasing mobility was not something I wanted to put off. Money well spent IMO.

Please tell me I'm not alone....
jenlen replied to kim2002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kim, Like you I had several operations when I was younger (child actually) and I began feeling quite nervous heading up to my surgery date (which really didn't make much sense as I never had a bad experience before). I had to work so hard to get this surgery, jumped through tons of hoops, and kept getting ins denial. I finally became terribly immobile due to arthritis and joint pain and my hubby and I decided that private pay was necessary for my health and well being. After securing the finances, doctor and surgery date I became nervous but left with the choice of declining mobility (despite months of physical therapy) or facing my fear, I chose to grin and bare it. Best choice I've ever made! Hope it helps just to know you are not alone with these fears. You alone though can weigh the options and make the best choice for you. What will your life look like if you don't go forward? What are the possible improvements that this surgery will bring to you? -
Does protein actually HELP you lose weight?
jenlen replied to cmathews77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc and Nut highly recommended almond milk when dairy causes issues. I try to buy organic when I can make it over to my Whole foods but most times I buy the Silk Pure Almond milk (unflavored keeps down sugars and calories). It mixes well with protein powders just like the dairy version. -

It's called Sunkist Protein. Come in orange, fruit punch and grape. All flavors are good to me. They go for 3 dollars a bottle at my Dierbergs grocery store, but I found them on Amazon for just over a dollar each -

For me I must get the 70-80g of Protein daily in order to lose weight. Whenever I don't meet those guidelines I stall. Also, I am having some trouble with protein powders. The best one for me is the IsoNatural mixed with non-dairy such as Soups, cream of wheat, Almond milk, etc. Also, I just found a product made by Sunkist (my Dierbergs carries it also found on Amazon much cheaper). It is a clear fruity liquid that mixes well with Water. 100 cal with 24g protein. It is packaged in a way similar to those 5 hour energy drinks but is solely a protein supplement. This has been very easy on my stomach and makes getting my fluids in much easier as well. Worth checking into. -
if I read about another stall Imma pull my hair out!
