BowlingHooker replied to elli'smommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
July 16 is my "surgical intervention"!!!!!!! -
Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
BowlingHooker replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm looking forward to being able to breathe easy again and NOT MORE HEARTBURN!!!!! -
Protein shake in the morning, healthy choice twice a day and a Protein Shake at night. Glad its not a liquid diet. I was a little worried about keeping that up for 10 days...
-
I'm like that too. Not an overeater, but a bad eater. Pepsi and fried foods is what put the weight on me. I'm not a big sweet eater. Fried chicken, fries and a pepsi - I can eat everyday!!!!!
-
I had GERD during both my pregnancies and it went away after my first but stayed after the second one and thats been 20 years now! I've been taking Omeprazole for years and years and I've been fine. Life without GERD is gonna be wonderful and I'm looking forward to after my rny July 16.

Overeating since im gonna have surgery
BowlingHooker replied to Smilejoelle1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Practicing before surgery is a good idea. I've been chewing more, trying to get into the habit early. I usually throw food in my mouth, a few chews, swallow and repeat. LOL!!! I have no willpower either. Thats why I'm in this awful situation (a fat ass!). I can't seem to turn down a meal, snack, tidbit, nothing!!!!!! At least after the surgery, if I try it I'll get sick. I think thats what I need to happen. A nasty consequence of trying to pig out. I bought a food scale and I'm gonna start putting about 3-4 ounces of food on the scale and just eat that amount a few times a day until its time for my pre-op diet (July 5). -
what about marijuana for nausea?

After 37 years of smoking a pack a day, I quit September 7, 2011. Its getting close to 2 years now and I don't miss it and my husband quit in February 2012 to help me out now he's glad he did it. When I went to my first introductory meeting for the WLS, they said if any of us are smokers and still at it before surgery, the surgery will be cancelled. It was all in the plan for me to quit when I did!!!!!

My "surgical intervention" is scheduled for July 16. On July 4, I plan to eat a 20 ounce T-bone steak cooked bloody rare from my grill. On July 5, I plan to start my pre-op diet. I have purchased the vitamins, food scale, a little protein powder. I will send hubby to the store as needed because I'm not sure of what my "tastes" will be and I dont want to waste money on stuff I might throw back up!

Please stop asking me!

I've been pretty open about my upcoming surgery on July 16 but I have NOT suggested the surgery to my fat friends. I go into detail about it only if asked. -
100+ To Loose
BowlingHooker replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 168 lbs. to lose. Surgery is July 16. My brother had the rny this past November and he is now down 150 lbs. So I know it can happen and it can happen in 6 months and not years. I just have to do what I'm told. I also plan to get a personal trainer at my gym for some lessons. I'm a league bowler and the season starts in August and my Doctor said I would be ready to bowl 2nd week in August. I'm in 4 leagues and really didnt want to run around trying to find substitutes. Now I can get back to the swing of things and not miss any time. -
Complications
BowlingHooker replied to keefkeef1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are they caused by something you ate? Medications? Just something that was gonna happen anyway? Because of the surgery and the stomach being smaller and alot of acid in a small place? What causes ulcers in post-op RNY patients? I ask because the stomach is my most sensitive area of my body. I've had stomach problems as a child up to adulthood and they went away after I had my two children. I cant remember the last time I had an upset stomach but just thinking about ulcers is making me nervous. I am emotionally ready to deal with stomach pain from the surgery, stomach pain from something I ate so I will "learn" not to eat that again, and all the other stuff, eating too fast, eating too much, etc. What I cant wrap my mind around are ulcers in my stomach popping up for no reason. There has to be a reason and I'm having some sleepless nights worrying about this. Someone please explain post-op ulcers to me. Why do they appear? -
Stories like this makes me feel better and makes me more convinced that I'm making the right decision in improving my life. My surgery date is July 16. I'm a little nervous, but more excited to things started!!! Thanks for the story.

BowlingHooker posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I received my surgery info this morning and my pre-op diet is defintely something I can live with. Calories are 800-1000 per day, high Protein 60-100g per day for 10 days starting July 5. This diet includes: protein supplements, healthy frozen meals (my favorites: Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, Weight Watchers and Smart Ones). I eat the meals twice a day (lunch/dinner), Protein shakes twice a day, fruit for Snacks and lots of Water and sugar free drinks and popsicles. I can do this!!!!! Surgery July 16. -
Post-Op Puree Stage...which kitchen appliance do you have?
BowlingHooker replied to renee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you use a regular blender to puree foods? The same blender that is used to make the protein shakes. -
Overeating since im gonna have surgery
BowlingHooker replied to Smilejoelle1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery is July 16, preop diet starts July 2. I've mourned my food the last couple of months and gained 7 lbs. so I'm done now. Have eaten everything thats been on my mind. Now I'm eating sensibly, no white stuff (rice, bread, potatoes) and the biggest thing I have stopped and its killing me: AN ICE COLD PEPSI!!!!!!!!!! I'm so addicted to Pepsi's!! I gained 75 lbs drinking Pepsi over the last year when I quit smoking. I feel like a drug addict weaning myself off Pepsi. That "monkey is on my back" big time but I'm staying strong. I'm drinking ice tea with sweet n low. Its okay. Crystal Light upsets my stomach and I dont know why. -
Chicago (south suburbs)
-
I would have done this 20 years ago but insurance would NOT pay for the plastic surgery (tummy tuck, etc.). I've seen what some people look like after WLS with no surgery to tighten things up - yuckkky!!!!! I chose to stay fat instead. When I found out recently that now my insurance will pay for it, I told my PCP to "sign me up!".
-
Surgery is July 16. My final meal was yesterday, Chicago's own, Harold's Fried Chicken 4 piece with salt/pepper and hot sauce and a 2 liter Pepsi. Dessert was about 4 apple slices from the nearby bakery. I'm done now. I am having for lunch today some cream of chicken soup, no crackers and I will chase it down with water.

So Excited! Got a Surgery Date!
BowlingHooker posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, my new life is about to start. I was given a July 16 surgery date. Yeah, me!!!!!! A little nervous, but determined to do this. I will admit: I am in need of surgical intervention. I will succeed. -
how did u decide bypass ?
BowlingHooker replied to mom24kiddos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor originally wanted me to go with the sleeve / duodenal switch because my BMI was 54.5. We changed to the RNY because of my pretty fierce GERD and a hiatal hernia. Also, I told him I didnt want a second surgery (duodenal switch) and since the "ds" is really just a bypass, I figured why go through two major surgeries to get the same thing done. So RNY on July 16. -
Where is everyone from?

Surgery Dates for July
BowlingHooker replied to elli'smommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This journey started December 2012 and the surgery is planned for July 16, 2013. I'm excited to get started with this. -
I love shrimp with lobster sauce. After sleeving, will this yummy dish turn into a "memory" for me or can I eat it?
