In April of 2007, I weighed more than I had my entire life. And then it happened. I was helping my husband on a farm we own, loading some bulls for the sale. Never had trouble before doing this, but this time one of the bulls turned around in the chute and came straight for me. In an instance I tried to save myself by climbing a metal gate, but I couldn't get my fat butt up quick enough and the bull ran under my leg and lifted me with his head onto his back, BACKWARDS!(Didn't make 8 seconds), Ha! But seriously, he then threw me off onto a pipe fence which is the last thing I remembered, until I came to, to my husband yelling "Get up!!". The bull attacked me and stepped on me twice, resulting in 8 fractured ribs on right side and 2 on the left, essentially a "flail chest". He punctured my lung, I had blood in my chest, and cardiac contusions. Rushed to the hospital and ended up in ICU and near death and hospitalized for a week. Took months to recover and plenty of time to think that I had been too fat to hoist myself to safety and that I could not do the things that I wanted because of my weight and the self-conscious and bad body image I had of myself. Because I am an RN who works in surgery as a first assistant to the surgeon, I researched Bands vs Sleeves. Of course the Sleeve was the obvious choice. I had the Sleeve done in November of 2008 and have never regretted the decision or looked back. I have more energy than what I did in my 20's. I feel great! Eat what I want, which is what I had always had to watch in my life. I tried every weight loss plan, and probably spent that $11,200.00 on Jenny Craig alone over those many, many unsuccessful years. I had not an ounce of "will power", and never found a weight loss plan that sold it! I started out at 230lbs and now I am at 120lbs, which for my height is too skinny. My problem is, that I feel so good and energetic that I burn more calories than I take in. Never ever did that before!
