    Medical Alert bracelets

"No NG tube, No NSAIDS or Aspirin" What does this mean? I've never been told anything about NSAIDS or Aspirin and what does No NG tube mean? I'm a little concerned because my doctor didn't say anything about this? If someone could fill me in, I would appreciate it! Thanks Just figured out what NG tube was, no luck on why no NSAIDS or Aspirin yet.......................
  2. I can tell you there is no way I could eat 2 eggs and 1/2 cup cottage cheese at one sitting or meal! I could eat 1/2 an egg and maybe a few small bites of cottage cheese and be stuffed! My doc says no more than 1/2 cup food at any meal. He says whatever you can fit into a 1/2 cup scoop is all you should be able to eat. I do think I'm a little too tight, but loosing still....so I'm just suffering through it! Good luck!

    Soda - Is this dumb?

I was a big diet coke and Mt. dew person........I had no problem switching to crystal light instead. I did miss it at first and even had a few sips and still do have a few sips occasionally, but the carbonation kills me! I burp, feel bloated and want to PB......so it's easy for me to stay away from it!

    Help :( overfill?

I am in the same boat. Got a fill almost 4 weeks ago and can hardly eat anything, unless it's after 11pm. My coffee takes me about 2 hours to drink in the morning, and the same for my Protein shake for lunch. Around 11pm I can have about 1/2 cup of soft foods. This is my 3rd fill and the first time I've felt "true" restriction. I thought I had restriction before but I could eat well over 1 cup of food at a time as long as it wasn't bread. I was considering an unfill, but I know they say as you loose more weight your band will loosen up and I hate to get an unfill and then have to go get a fill again later. I keep hoping it will get better because I am uncomfortable most of the time-that lump in your chest feeling and instant headache. On a good note-lost 12 pounds in those few weeks. I'm going to try and stick it out for a few more weeks and hopefully I will feel better!

I feel like such a failure

Don't worry........that is what fills are for. I just had one and I had been putting it off. Not because I had gained, but because my loss had slowed way down. I told the doctor that I was starving all the time and I could eat large portions of food-feeling no restriction unless I eat bread. He made me feel fine and said I was just due for a fill and that would get me on track. He said I shouldn't be hungry and that a 1/2 cup of anything should make me full. I'm sure a lot of us have been there and you shouldn't feel embarrassed or avoid a fill. Fills are a lot of trial and error and you need to get back on track with a fill and you'll be on the weight loss wagon again! We've all had set backs and made poor choices........you will bounce back!

Too Tight? What do you think?

I just had a fill last week-my third and coming up on 9 months since my band. I was due for a fill a while ago because I could eat larger amounts that ever! Still couldn't eat bread and meats but large amounts of other stuff. I waited for a fill because we were going on a 3 week cruise and I wanted a little freedom. I still lost weight too. Anyway-when I went for my fill the doctor told me that I shouldn't be hungry and shouldn't be able to eat more than 1/2 cup of anything........so he gave me 1/2cc fill and told me to come back in 3 weeks for another 1/2 cc fill. As of today (6 days since fill)I can only eat a couple of bites of mushy food-after that hurts too much. Call the doctor and the nurse told me mushy foods were fine as long as I loose weight and I don't need an un-fill. I do find I eat a lot more mushy food since the band. Hard food seems to hurt no matter how much I chew it. I guess it's going to be mushy foods for me from here on out. I just had 4 bites of Chunky Chicken Noodle Soup......and I'm done. Seems too full for me, but they won't give me an un fill either. Make a long story short.........my doc says mushy foods are a fine way of life as long as you get your protein!

Why's my band tighter at different times?

My doctor told me that it's very common for bands to be tighter in the morning. He said after you have been laying down for extended periods of time your stomach will swell-which causes tightness in the morning. Once you've been up and moving around, then the swelling goes down. I feel tightness on the rare occasion that I can take a nap. I'm always tighter after laying down and the longer I lay down, the tighter I seem to be. I can't/don't really eat any solids until after 2pm. Anyway, doctor said it's very common in banding. I like it because it forces me to have a Protein shake in the AM and gets my day started off on the right foot!
  9. Yesterday, after fighting it for days, I woke up with a nasty cold/cough. Respiratory issues, feeling queasy and tired-more or less yucky. Anyway, I thought I was queasy and shaky from not eating so I tried my usual lunch food and I was very tight, only a couple bites. Same thing happen later at dinner-hardly could eat anything. Also been having achy, bruise like feeling at my port (just since I haven't been feeling well).<br /> <br /> Has anyone heard of your stomach swelling when you're sick or your band feeling tighter or port pain?<br /> <br /> Very curious and would appreciate any responses! I'm still a little paraniod when it comes to possible issues with my band. Thanks!

    Reviews of protein powders?

What is micellar milk? Sounds interesting, if you could tell more! I just ordered some samples of unjury. I've tried the EAS (not too bad) and the unflavored whey (not bad, but I swear it leaves an after taste) and the nector (made me gag!!) So I'm hoping the unjury will add some more variety! I'm liking the sound of 40grams of Protein in one drink.......fill me in on the micellar milk! Thanks

    What are your problem foods?

Funny, no breads for me either. It's weird how it works because croûtons have become my bread replacement. If I'm really missing bread, that what I have with no problem. Eggs---get this, I can have hard boiled eggs or fried eggs, but when it comes to scrambled or omelet......big NO NO! Funny Huh!

    Recovery Stories :)

Hi Everyone, I had the severe left shoulder pain as well. It was worse than any other pain associated with the surgery. My Doc told me it was normal, and a result of them messing with your sternum during surgery and not to mention laying on the flat metal table for an hour. Two days out my shoulder pain was gone. I was more uncomfortable than anything, but not in pain. I had my surgery on a Wednesday morning, home by 4pm that night. Went back to work on Monday- (have a desk job). No pain, but just tired. Overall the surgery experience was not as big of a deal as I was thinking and worth every minute of it!!

    What am i doing wrong??

Wondering........is this happening in the AM? Or after you have possibly been laying down. I find that I can only have liquids in the AM or after a nap. Even mushie foods cause a problem in the morning. Once I've been on my feet for a least a hour, then I can eat soft foods, and then regular foods after several hours! I most defiantly agree with the liquids after PB, stomach is irritated and swollen and needs to relax before trying more food. Cottage cheese still gives me problems unless I blend it in the food processor <o>:boink:> </o>:xena_banana:>
  16. Mine in on the right side just below my rib cage-at least that is where I feel it, but when I get a fill-he shoots to the right side about two inches from my belly button!

    Bread!?

I can't eat bread....instant PB.......still try occasionally, but no luck. I figured eating bread for over 30 years helped in getting me over weight and it won't kill me not to eat it for the next 30 years! I missed it a lot at first, but now I think of how much it hurts to eat bread and I don't even want it! I heard it's more the gluten in bread than bread itself. I stay away from anything with gluten or wheat flour and seem to do very well! It's not completely Atkins because you can do fruits and veggies with the band! I prefer this over Atkins any day!!

    May 2007 Banders

Hi Weazer! Thanks for the welcome! I've had 1 fill, 3 weeks after my surgery and he said he put in 1.5cc. I went back 4 weeks later for another fill. He checked and said I only had 1cc left, so he put in .5cc to bring me back to 1.5. I guess according to them, I've had to fills but I've never had more than 1.5 in my band from the first fill. I'm due for another fill in Nov. Thinking I'm not sure if I need it!

    May 2007 Banders

Hello, I'm fairly new to posting on this site, but I'm glad I did a search on May Bandsters. I had Surgery on May 22, 2007 and I'm doing great! Was wondering if there is a way to add this thread to something like a "favorites" or have it always on the thread board so I don't have to search for it? Also.......this may sound crazy, but I was wondering if anyone can relate?! Over the past two weeks I have come to the conclusion that I don't like food--anymore! Nothing tastes good to me at all-nothing. It's to the point of why bother? I do get hungry, but nothing temps me and I end up having a protein shake because I know I have to eat something. It's so odd for me, loving all foods prior to the surgery. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all! Just wondering if this happens to other people. I think I'm turning into having to, "eat to live, not live to eat" type of person that I never in my wildest dreams would have considered. Food is the last thing on my mind and it use to be the only thing on my mind. I wonder if this will last?

    Snacks

Ditto on the string cheese! I like the south beach Protein bars as well. I spend a lot of time in the car, so I look for Snacks too. I have been drinking the slim fast lowcarb/low sugar-3grams. The original slim fast has over 28gr sugar and a lot more calories. It's a quick way to get your protein in. I would stay away from the McD's yogurt things....there is a huge amount of sugar in them.!!!! My doctor tells us to limit the amount of sugar to 3gr. or less in a serving! Banded 5/23/07

    Mexico Vs. The US

BCBS covered my lap band, I just had to have a BMI over 32 -I think. No problems with a rec. from my primary. Good luck to you, I've read a lot about people with self pay going to Mexico and it seems to have been a good experience for them! Banded on 5/23/07
  23. I had surgery in May and have been doing great. Lately, I noticed a lot of hair in my brush, hands or towels. Last night, clumps were coming out.........huge amounts, not just little bits here and there. It's a little disturbing. I've heard of this happening with by-pass patients but not lap band. Does this mean not enough Protein? I know GNC has a "hair formula" Vitamin, but it's a huge pill and there is no way I could take that. Any one had similar experience, and what did you do, does it stop and will my hair fill back in? I getting a little scared because it's huge amounts of hair. My husband said it looked like a dead animal in the trash can after I took my shower.:help: I don't have a ticker yet........but down 52lbs since May 23!

    My Hair is Falling Out!!??

faith md- Thanks for your replies, I'll see what I can do.......that's weird, I just hit 4 months post op. I'm glad I'm not alone. I agree, beautiful wigs out there! Don't know how I missed the hair loss threads. I'm still trying to figure this site out. Been reading from afar, just starting to comment. stefgray- congrats on the 52 and the same surgery month as me! Your hair loss was where I was at about a week ago. Last night is when the "clumping" started. Hopefully won't get to that point. It sounds inevitable anyway and theres not much we can do about it. I do try to keep a balance diet and proper Protein so there must be something else to it. Before my surgery I was on some crazy diets for long periods of time, starved myself and never had hair loss. Thanks for the reply!
  25. I've been dying to ask this question and have been trying to look at old posts to find the answer, but no luck. Was worried it was a silly question, but what the heck. I know what PB is -but can some one explain to me what is going on when I don't PB, but get that "slimy", " phlegm-y" thing that makes me need to swallow a lot. Lasts about 5 minutes then goes away. What does this mean and what is going on? Thanks in advance!
