I am looking at Dr. Thomas Walter Umbach as my surgeon because I am self pay and he seems to have reasonable rates. I am looking for your experience with him? Thank you! Jolie

I am asking because it seems like most cut out carbs but its usually not very healthy to cut out all. But if that is how I can use my sleeve the best that's what I will do for this first year. Sent from my iPad using VST

I have been sleeping on my tummy since about 4 days after my surgery. It will get better!

I was sleeved on the 18th as well! It's going pretty smoothly.

I just had my sleeve done yesterday ! Feeling great. Just a little gas pains that meds have taken care of. In the 16 hours since surgery I have managed to get down 3 Protein shakes with no nausea! Loved my doctor and the hospital ..and mine was outpatient . Let me just say that using dr, Umbach from Blossom Bariatrcs and the staff at North Vista Hospital was the most awesome surgery experiece I have had ever! I have had 3 csection a and 2 other outpatient surgeries in my life. This was my 3rd outpatient and never received such excellent care. My mom, a nurse, came with me and she is still taking about the experience . And this was all cash pay for $10,400! His pain management protocol is unbelievable as well. Highly , highly recommend. My mom is next in line for hers she says!

Hi Altima, my surgery was outpatient so I did not stay overnight in th hospital. I recovered for a little over 2 hours then my mom took me to the hotel. His pain management was so great that I wouldn't want to stay in the hospital anyway. I was nauseated before the surgery because he does give Percocet before you go under to help with the pain. I puked a little before and was given zofran thru my iv. I had NO pain when we I woke up or in the next 3 days of healing. I was uncomfortable and achy but not in pain. I took one Percocet every 4-6 hours as needed and slept really well. Walking made one side hurt so I just made sure I walked about 45 minutes after I tooka pain med. your also given a patch behind your ear before surgery for nausea.i had no nausea after surgery but some do.i have yet to need an antacids so I have not bought any. I just brought my purse with my ids and phone ,no charger.i drank premier Protein drinks while there. But love the chike banana and strawberry he sells in his office.i hope that helps.

I have decided that I want to have the vertical sleeve surgery, but now that I have, I think I am crazy! I mean I am changing my stomach forever and if I am not happy, I can't go back. But when I look for reasons online to NOT do it...I just cant find any...everyone seems to love it after the first year has gone by. I am scared to make this final. My husband says just call the doctor and make the appointment. Now I freaking myself out but I can NOT stay this heavy forever. I want to change while my children are young(9,9,5,6 months). Help!

I am ready for this, I know I am but just found out my insurance will not cover it. My husband works for a school district and they did not include it in the plan. So now the search begins for a reasonable self pay and yet still get a great dr. Thank you all!!!

Hi Goddardgo I am in Phoenix, Az...where are you? Neuanfang..if it were not for my flattened feet hurting me all the time, joints more painful as I gain, losing my breathe tying my shoes and having to ask my wonderful husband to do them for me..then I would be much happier with the way that I am. The final straw was having to ask for a belt extender on recent flights I took. Its just time but I am scared...what if it goes wrong? What if I am always hungry like usual but with a even tinier stomach?
