December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
MissKatt replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I asked about my stomach, and he said it was small, but I had been fasting and on a diet so that was to be expected. He also said my liver was large but not crazy. I have pictures of the inside of my stomach from the EGD before. Really gross to me, but my 6 y/o got a kick out of it lol -
December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
MissKatt replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on the 4th, and it seems like mostly everyone has had a smooth time. Mine wasn't terribly bad, but it wasn't great either. I remember waking up right after surgery in excruciating pain (I think that's the part most people don't remember, I'm the lucky one). They finally got my pain under control, and I got to see my husband. I had a catheter in, which I requested be taken out that night. They wanted me to go pee by 4AM or else they were going to put it back in. Luckily I finally got my lady parts working at 4 on the dot lol.... The gas pain sucks, the incision pain sucks. I popped an internal suture in my lower abdomen when I coughed so that didn't help. It hurt to swallow the first few days and I would get those muscle spasms in my stomach. Thankfully that went away! I'm doing pretty well getting in all my protein, just need to work on my hydration. I haven't lost any weight yet, and I think I'm going to stay away from the scale until my 3 week checkup. -

Holy Freakout Batman!
MissKatt replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is exactly how I've been feeling the past few days. I'm sad that it comes down to this. I feel like I'm insane for "mutilating" (A previous hematologist told me this once) my body in order for me to successfully lose weight. It has been a long process for me so far, and I've got 8 days to go. I guess I will be riding that huge wave of anxiety with ya! Surfs up -

Less than two weeks left and I'm starting to feel like a big chicken! Part of me wants to cancel, but I know I just have/want to go through with this. Oi. -

Bruising - 3 week post op

You REALLY need to take that iron. If you're low in iron, you will experience easy bruising, bleeding gums and/or nosebleeds. -

You're welcome I'm at JBER, Alaska.

To my knowledge, TriCare doesn't cover the sleeve. There were rumors they were going to cover it soon, though. The only way you'll be able to get the sleeve is if you get it done at an MTF. Thankfully, the hospital on base where I live just opened up a bariatric center in April.

For those that have had the surgery, what is the pain comparable to? I've never had surgery and I've only broken a little toe lol I have had two children though, one without meds! (Not by choice) The gas pains I have heard are the worst part, but I'm hoping the gas x strips will help with that.

Thank you!

That's what I was hoping to hear! Thank you

That reminds me of the dentist. It takes a lot to numb up my mouth. I dread going in that place. Well, here's to hoping they don't over or under do it! lol -

Oh, I'm very difficult to numb up and get pain under control. I have some sort of super resistance to it, and I rarely get into situations where I need it (only childbirth). The only part of the procedure that's rough is when you have to "swallow" the camera. After that, it's just really strange and a bit uncomfortable. He was done in 5 minutes -

No driver needed! They were really stunned when I was adament about not wanting drugs. They said only one person did that before, and only because he didn't have a ride home. They joked and said they were going to put my picture on the wall lol While I was waiting for the procedure, they wheeled in another lady who did opt for the drug and man, she was out of it. It made me way more confident with my decision I know I won't have that option with surgery of course, but if I can avoid it I do. -

This is my date as well! I'm having mixed emotions too. Mostly nervous, and every time I think about it I get butterflies in my stomach. D'oh lol
