Rny people seem to be in thier own little world and thier surgery is the best! WHATEVER! I have co-workers who have done it and have had many complications. Myself? almost 5 months out no complications! Yes it takes longer, but at the same time you don't have all the other things that RNY can cause problems with! I would never consider chopping my stomach up to lose weight and changing where my organ are at. I have a brother-in -law who did the RNY-and lost it fast-now he has a lot of hanging skin and insurance and his funds are not going to cover plastic surgery. the lapband you lose slower giving your skin a chance to tone with your own sweat and tears by working at it. I am totally glad I have the band!

I think im the Biggest one here! :-( My Introduction
laraestokes replied to KRZYGIRLNSTL's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Krystal, Welcome to a new world. I would never change my choice on getting the band. I love it and how much it helps control the portion. Good Luck-you CAN do this! -
I'm a medical coder at a clinic! DH works in a sheet metal place making big fans!

Anyone wear a medical id bracelet?
laraestokes replied to piercedqt78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As an EMT I can see the importance of having one. We aren't going through your purse to find a card. I just ordered my self one from AVON- 9.99 It comes with two different bracelets and your can get one that say medical condition and then I am just going to have the lab band engraved after that! -
Pizza!! Some days it drives me crazy how much I crave it, and the kids have been begging to go out for it, I will have to break down and take them to Pizza Ranch and let them have their fix while I dine on salad!! But I still wouldn't trade my band!

The search for the missing fill!
laraestokes replied to kimalicious's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just a thought-Is your doc hitting your port? My DH has had supposely 4 fills, the last one they did under fluro-to find the doc has never hit the port! Just a thought? -
Mine did it before me-we are banded partners!

Joe-the skin hanging thing may not be as big as problem as you think. The surgeon I have has me doing some strengh training to get your body toned and skin back in shape. He said that would hopefully lessen the hanging? You may actually be at an advantage with your age and tallness. Good luck on you decision!

I found viactive chew are great and they make them in multi vitamen now, SOme of my daily pills are small, so I just take them, ibubrophen i break in half and take. When I am prescribed something I tell the doc it needs to be smaller then an eraser top (according to my surgeon) liquid, or chewable. Best wishes on you band!

Joe- I have a neice who is 20 and is also looking into the surgery. She is like 5' and I don't even want to guess her weight, but she is too short for it! I think you have come to the right place. This is less invasive surgery and all you need is the conviction to change you life style. The band helps so much with the portion part of food. You learn real quick when you have to stop eating. I haven't had my long, but would not change it for minute! Good luck

My surgeon in SD only was $5,200. The hospital on the other hand was 16,000-and that was just overnight. My doc too , said the new ones have to be proctered the first 2-3 surgeries.

I don't have reflux, but my doc advised to get over the counter pepcid in case there is a problem. He said reflux can be associated with this procedure. Luckily I am pretty tight (no bread for this gal-at all), but haven't experienced the reflux.

I set my goal at 150 (sounded good at the time when I was asked) Doc said that was a great goal, but still on the heavy side for 5'7". Personally I will be celebrating once I get under 200#

South Beach Diet Food At The Stores!!!
laraestokes replied to Tarafeena's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OMG! They do sound good and I have been craving pizza, but I haven't been able to eat any bread, wraps or pizza since my fill. I might have to break down and try? But I hate PBing. -
Depressed about not wearing plus sizes
laraestokes replied to DeniseG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just can't wait to get out of plus, for some reason they think people are short that shop in that section. Just cuz I am overweight doesn't mean I am short!! I'm getting closer, but the "regular" clothes scares me!! A little to hip???? I still need to cover myself-all of it! But I also know about the size thing so far from size 22 to some 18. Still can't get into my favorite capri's that I once wore that are 18, but can get into my work pants and some jeans. why can't it all be sized the same? -
just one week has passed and i am ready to give up!
laraestokes replied to a_bit_pink's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pink-I felt the same way. I did mine right before New Years! 12/28/04 and went to a party and was stupid and ate a deviled egg! Well that ended the night for me and I was miserable the rest of the weekend. But you ya need to get up and moving again and if you don't have the support there you will always have it here. I was lucky my husband had been through it just a few weeks before me. I ate a lot of pudding and yogurt the rest of that weekend and sipped on water and broth. The broth was the most soothing for me. Wish you happier times ahead. You CAN do this, and it WILL get better. I still question it and then I step on the scale and know that it was the right thing for me! Good Luck! -
Celeste- I guess I was bad about not looking into my surgeon to well. I was referred to him by my Baratric doctor whom I had been seeing for around 4 years. He has used the Surgical Institute Surgeons fof many of his WLS patients. I did send my husband to have his first before I did mine. Just to be sure . He does have a hard time finding the port, but is very good about sticking to it until he gets a fill in. We infact had an appt. last week and I have not needed anymore adjustments since Feb and I am down over 30 pounds since the initial surgery. I'm doing about 2 pounds a week. So are you going to be his first? I think I heard my doc say they need a procter in the room when they do the first few surgeries. Let me know if youhave other questions. It is the best thing I have done for myself! Good Luck! Larae

Hi-Sue. I was wondering if anyone else out there from around here. It seems like my doc does a lot but I haven't run into anyone besides me and the hubby. We actually had a visit with him today and Rich needed to get a fill-actually his first one to find out after thinking he had three others. He was missing the port. Don't let that scare you though. He did mine and I have lost 25 pounds since my fill. which was in February. I am down from 280 to 245. Don't get discourage as you really don't lose to much weight until you get a fill. We live in Bruce SD and work in Brookings. Hope to hear back from you and Good luck!

My Mom had a kidney transplant last August due to health problems e.i. diabetes, h.p., MO. She is doing great since the transplant except keeping the weight off. Her Doc mentioned the Band and she is very seriously considering it. She can't do anything until she has her new kidney for a year, which she says gives her time to see how well it works for myself and DH. She is 69.

What size Inamed do you have have?
laraestokes replied to LapBandFan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a 4cc band with a 1cc fill. My hubby has a 10 cc band and 6cc fill. I am losing on a average 2 lbs a week. He hasn't lost since the first 4 weeks. We go see the surgeon tomorrow to see what is going on with him. Great job for you! -
Ok-we love Crawdads here in SD. And yes they live in the mud, but when the guys go and get them they put them in fresh water for a week or so to clean them out!! I can't wait until it warms up here enough for the guys to go get some. They are awesome!! And no head sucking here!! We just break off the tail and eat them. Of course the kids have to play with some of them and have crawdad fights before they get cooked! It fun for all when we do them here!
