As my surgery date draws near, I find myself questioning the wisdom of having the majority of a major organ removed. Have I really become this desperate for a change? The more I think about it the more bizarre it seems. The fact that the sleeve is considered a "newer" WLS really makes me nervous about the long term. Everyone thought the band was amazing years ago and now it seems there are widespread issues with it.

Grow up you big baby.

Controversial - The evaluation of before and after. Healthier by definition, but does everyone who is VSG'd really 'look' better?
Heartonsleeve replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Rants & Raves
I honestly think some of the after pics look worse. I hope I end up looking better after but if not at least I'll be healthier! -
Scoobysworkshop.com and askscooby.com are great.

Came to the thread expecting knee jerk reactions from closed minded anti religion bigots, was not disappointed.

How to deal with family that disagree with surgery?
Heartonsleeve replied to Doxiemom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If he does not agree with the surgery then he probably shouldn't have it! Your body your choice. -

To tell or not to tell that is the question.......................
Heartonsleeve replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I will be honest about it and tell whoever asks about it. It may be they are asking because they are looking for help for themselves or another. Lying about it or keeping it secret makes it seem like it is something to be ashamed of. I do not believe it is. -

PCP is sabotaging my insurance approval
Heartonsleeve replied to equal.opposite's topic in Rants & Raves
I had similar issues with my PCP. I told her I wanted a referral to the surgeon and she told me I should just eat a lot of giant salads to lose weight, in addition to trying to scare me off with horror stories...wth? I called my insurer the same day and got a new PCP. -
My previous PCP was the same way. She tried to scare me off with stories of how she had patients who had WLS and now have brain damage or something because of vitamin deficiencies. I called my insurer the same day and got a new PCP.

I'm just waiting to see my surgeon for the first appointment still. Feels like it is dragging on forever. -

Gain Pounds, Lose Fat? Very Curious
Heartonsleeve replied to JolieBug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is extremely unlikely and probably impossible that you have gained any way near 6 lb of muscle in so short a time. Probably a small portion of the weight is muscle and the rest water. -

Starting Journey with "quiet" husband...

That and just have him look at testimonials by a great deal of people who have had the procedure done, and go through the before and after threads. -
Starting Journey with "quiet" husband...

Dear god, paragraphs please! If you have not, I suggest you bring him to one of the free seminars that pretty much all bariatric programs seem to do. If he or you have questions you can ask the doctors themselves at the seminar. It might just be that he needs more information on how and why these procedures are done and how it all works. -
The way I am looking at it is this: When you have a diseased appendix, you have it removed. When your gallbladder is full of gallstones and the only way to solve the problem is removal, you get it removed. I see my stomach as causing me a problem, so I'm getting a large part of it removed.
-
Yeah I'm going to struggle with this as well.
-
What happens to the removed part of the stomach?

Is it just thrown away? Is it suitable for organ donation? Do you get it tanned and display it over your fireplace? -
Anyone got any good videos with narration of the surgery? The most informative one I've found so far is this one

These aren't videos of the procedure exactly but Dr. Alvarez has a great Q&A series on Youtube I just came across. -
