I've already passed my psych consult but now i'm worried that since he's changing my meds around if it's going to look like i'm not ready for the surgery has anyone has experiance with this? :wink2: thanks!!!

New to this..and getting all the negative remarks
xgrl replied to mpope's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My 2 friends that know that are also bigger girls have giving me that they understand why i'm doing this but haven't really said that they support me....So I instead look to this forum, in real life you may not have people that are going thru the same thing you are...HERE you are bound to find someone that is in a very similar situation as you and here you can always count on support and advice. I would tell you friend that you would love it if they would support you but if they don't they are gonna have to deal with it when you have the surgery. I would say so far for me it's hard leading up to it because the people i've told i feel as though they don't believe that i'm actually doing it. Because the 6 month diet and everything take so long but it's a process they'll eventually come around when they see how happy and healthy you are in the future!!! thats what I keep thinking "I will be happy and healthy in the future" Good luck with your friend, maybe you could remind her of a time when you supported her in her decision.... Have fun at your Seminar! you will learn so much and get inspired! :wink2: -
I'm still working on my diet I'm seeing the Dietition every week now! can you believe that, that's how often she says people come. but I don't mind if it helps me get my band or lose weight i'm all for it unfortunatly my first month I gained 4 lbs and my second month I gained 3 lbs..... It is so dissapointing but my doctor tells me to try as hard as i can and that the diet is doing what it is intended to do which is prove that conventional diets and exercise don't work. I try to go walking for the most part because my knees are so bad after I do anything that is high impact I can hardly walk.... I'm 23 and I have bad knees WTF this is so wrong. I can't wait till I'm at a healthy weight and I don't get winded walking up a flight of stairs...it's so bad i actually think of ways to avoid walking up stairs cause if i do it to much my knees hurt...Good luck with the start of your 6 month diet. Check with your insurance and see if they will pay for a dietition she's really helping me out at least mentally for the pre-band diets. my dietition is actually free through my college which is great she reports to my doctor who is also at the college and now i'm going to the shrink because of my depression but i think i'm gonna take the conversation to how my weight and body image effects my depression so he can also write to me needing the band. Where are you starting at BMI wise if you don't mind me asking?

Hello All, I'm meeting with the dietition tomorrow because after months on the weight watchers (which I can't keep on good terms with) because I'm always going out to eat otherwise I'd never see anyone! anyways I'm hoping this will help me pick better things and not have to have my computer with me to find out what the points values....I know WW can and do work for some people but it's just not for me I guess. I'm in my 2nd month of the 6 month diet and I GAINED 4 POUNDS!!!! I'm going crazy I do watch what I eat for the most part I'm guessing it's all the other parts that I'm missing that are skrewing me up. I'm so looking forward to having a list after the surgery that says exactly what I can and cannot eat and having a very bad thing happen besides just gaining some weight if I don't follow what they say. I know it's horrible but I feel like once this is done. I'll look at food totally differently not just a comfort or stress-relief but as something to keep me alive not to push me closer to dying at an early age. Wow.....did i get off topic, The point of this was to ask anyone if they thought that the dietition was helpful during their 6 month diet in losing weight? or what was their best help in losing weight I feel like if I go back to the Doctor next month and I gained again I will be very dissapointed in myself. Thanks All, xgrl

I just came back from my appt, And you are right it's gonna have to be a change before hand, I'm now seeing her every week (her suggestion) I'm working on leaving some food on my plate. that's my week goal It sounds so easy why do i have the feeling it's going to be really hard! I hope your surgery goes well, your situation sounds identical to mine it's really nice to know that other people out there are going thru the same stuff I don't know what i would do if I had to go thru this alone! Thank you so much, How was your pre-op diet? was it really hard? does it get better as it goes on? I guess the mostly liquid diet kinda freaks me simply cause i'm paranoid I'm not gonna feel full....If you don't mind me asking what insurance do you have? was it an easy approval? I'm kinda nervous about that to...So many things!!! I know it's gonna be all worth it in the end but it's so much right now!

The Dietition is actually free, they have one on staff at my university and it doesn't cost anything for students to go.

So I went to my Dr today to start my 6 month diet plan and i have to go to a new doctor since i'm in college and can't make it back to my hometown doctor. and talking to her she wants me to start all over with the diet and exercise and diet medications! I tryed to explain to her that i've already been there done that didn't work! She just kept on how i should changed the current medications i'm on like the depo (because i get really bad migraines and cramps that put me out for days) to something else and my migraine medicine and my depression medicine because the side effects are weight gain....hello i wouldn't be on most of them if my obesity wasn't causeing me to feel depressed and down and then she tells me that she doesn't want to fill out the papers for my diet plan because she doesn't feel qualified....all it is gonna be is her signing the papers saying i'm trying to go to the gym and eat right yadda yadda.... She flat out said to me she doesn't support weight loss surgery! what should i do i feel like if i switch docters again it'll look strange and i don't wanna push back getting my surgery since i'm in my senior year and will only have insurance till december! I'm so upset I've been eating good for more than 2 months and no change in fact i gained 5 pounds and exercising i just don't understand i feel like i'm lost and the doctor just doesn't get it! any advice or words of wisdom i could really use some

Thank you to everyone for the advice it made me feel so much better that lady just totally brought me down. After about 3 hours on the phone I now have a appt with one of the doctors at student health that i had the nurse ask in person if he would be willing to help with this *thank goodness he said yes* I've decided never to go back to the other doctor ever again. She just made me feel like shit i wish there was away to warn anyone that went to her with the same idea in mind. looking forward to my appt even though the soonest i could get in was the 14th it's still okay thats still enough time to get all the insurance stuff to go though and if not who know's maybe i'll decide to go to graduate school to keep the insurance for longer haha once again THANK YOU ALL!!! if i didn't have the support of everyone online that know the frustration and what i'm going through i don't know what i would do. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! :tt1:  :wink2:

Hey Jackie, I just went to my Primary Care Doctor and got my weight for the last 4 or 5 years and i talked to her my asthma has actually gotten worse and i'm having bad Acid Reflux (also went to my dentist today they said it's wearing the enamal of my teeth down pretty bad, I wonder what it's doing to my esophigus) but i got increase meds on both of those so I really hope this helps with my insurance my doctor said that it would be beneficial but she doesn't know if she would deem it medically necessary with just those two kinda disapointing but hopefully the seminar tomorrow will explain enough so i can get it covered, how are you doing with your insurance? have you set a date yet?

Blue Cross Blue Shiled of Iowa HELP!?!?!?!?
xgrl replied to jackie506's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Misty Yeah I'm from Iowa I go to Iowa State but otherwise my hometown is North Iowa. I have my seminar with Dr. Glascock next tuesday I'm really hoping i'm a good canidate I've made appt with my Regular Doc so i'm hoping she will order the test so my insurance will cover them cause i have a heart mumer so that will pretty much cover the cardio stuff and i have acid reflux so theres the endoscopy and i'm tired and never get any good sleep so there is the sleep study HOPEFULLY i'm crossing my fingers that my doc will see my Logic she's always very nice and very helpful and has been working with me for the last 5-6 years to work on my weight loss and so far unsuccesfully unfortunatly but that's why i'm here it's a last resort really so i'm hoping my insurance will allow it before my health gets worse.... Thanks for the support i can't wait till i have more news i'm counting the days to the seminar and after that my first consult sending wishes your guys ways talk to you soon -
I completly agree with the fact that they want to wait for your health to get worse before they will allow you to try and reverse all the damage already done it's crazy i have some of the comortalitys but they aren't the ones on the BCBS website, so i don't know if they will work i've been reading on here that most people don't realize that they have sleep apnea so is it bad that i'm kinda hoping i have it so i can get on the right track to losing weight and changing my health in a good way... my seminar is on Tuesday the 19th and soon after that i hope to meet with the surgeon i'm gonna try to get my general practitioner to suggest a sleep study and get that done. I'll keep you updated i'm wishing we'll get approved!!! Heres Hoping Talk to you soon!

Blue Cross Blue Shiled of Iowa HELP!?!?!?!?
xgrl replied to jackie506's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Jackie I also have BCBS of Iowa I'm just starting my journey I have around a 36 37 BMI I'm super nervous that they won't approve me I've been doing tons of research via the internet to find out if they will cover me I'm only 22 I feel like if I take a positive step to lose this weight early i won't have the co morbities since my family history includes nearly all of them that BCBS covers. I got the 6 Months supervised diet i was on phenteramine for around 2 and 1/2 years i lost around 45 lbs but gained it all back and the fact that phenteramine is suppose to be a short term thing and 2 and 1/2 years isn't exactly short term. I think i should prob have the sleep study done because my father and grandmother and grandfather have it so maybe i've never been tested before...okay so i'm rambling but I'm just super excited that I may have found something that works to lose weight and keep it off it's kinda like starting with a clean slate and being able to start a healthy lifestyle!!! I'll Be able to exercise again without having to use my inhalor and feeling like a may die! alright good luck with your approval i'm rooting for you! let us know your updates! -
So I'm Starting Out and I also Have BCBS of Iowa My BMI is only 37 and i'm kinda nervous that they won't allow me to have this surgery I've been battling with the scale since i was a in 8th grade I was on Phenteramine from 2003 to mid 2006 I don't have one of the co morbities that they list in the policy but i do have others. I've been on just about every weight loss system that i could think of and afford. if you don't mind me asking what are your bmi's i don't mean to be rude but i'm wondering if anyone under 40bmi has been approved
