evansmini replied to rredrruby87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to work after a week. I wasn't tired or sluggish. -
Almost 3 months post op
evansmini replied to Steelersrn56's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats! That's awesome! -
I am about 7 weeks post op and having a very hard time getting in my protein. Mostly because I'm having a very hard time eating meat. I can't stand the taste, smell, or texture of chicken, beef, or pork. I was definitely a careworn pre op, so not sure what's going on. I don't eat fish, haven't eaten it since I was a kid. I reached out to my dietitian and she mentioned trying fish. Has anyone gone from hating fish to liking fish post op? For those who like fish, what fish should I try first that isn't so fishy and won't scare me away the first time?

From Chicken to Fish
evansmini replied to evansmini's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone so much for the help!!! -
I had surgery with Dr. Gachassin in Lafayette, he was amazing. We were not sure if insurance would cover at first, so we did ask how much self pay would be. I believe our estimate was around 12K.

The infamous 3 week stall
evansmini replied to NTL44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit a stall at week 3, lasted about 4 days. I kept up with my water and protein and now I'm loosing again. -
I had a chicken breast from Popeyes the day before surgery and the dr still said my liver looked great. Upset with myself for taking such a big risk now that I look at it

I need some help! I'm about 5 weeks post op and about 3 days ago I started feeling pretty yucky. The sight and smell of food really makes me nauseated. I've only been able to take in a few protein shakes, water, and some soup. I was doing really really good up until now. Monday, I started taking birth control pills again at the request of my surgeon. I know my hormones are already out of whack from the weight loss and surgery. When I try to take in something solid, it's hard to get it down, swallow, and keep it down. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be my hormones trying to figure out what the hell is going on? Or something more serious like a stricture or leak? My husband also had the surgery about 11 weeks ago and never experienced this.

The letter from your PCP has to say that you are cleared for surgery and he recommends for surgery. Both my husband and I got denials at first and the wording was part of the denial.
-
Congrats! We even have the same surgery date

Finally received my approval from Cigna today. Can't believe it's real.
-
Good Luck to you, I'm very anxious to hear if you've gotten approval. My fate is in Cigna's hands as well, so it would feel great to know that they've approved someone
-
From my understanding, It has to say you are cleared for surgery and that he/she recommends you for surgery and that you are a good candidate.
-
Cigna is being very strict now on the dietician visits, well about everything really. You have to do a full 90days, and all the visits have to be spaced out evenly apart. Apparently, they went from a 3 consecutive month visit to a full 90 days on May 15th. My surgery had to be postponed so i could get my 4th dietician visit in, which was today. Insurance will be resubmitted today for my July 22nd surgery. Fingers crossed. I was originally denied because I was missing my 4th visit and because of some verbiage on my PCP letter.

I would call the insurance coordinator working with you at the doctors office.
-
No problem. After seeing my husband's triumphs with the surgery, dealing with insurance is sooo worth it
-
Me too. I have my last dietician visit Wednesday. Make sure you do a full 90 days. My husband went through a hell of a process last month getting approval. We went through 2 denials with him. I am on my first denial. They want things too the "T". The correct wording from you primary care physician, the exact wording from your phsy eval. No less then 90 days of dietician visits. Just be thorough. Message me if you need any help!!!!!

What insurance do you have?
-
Good Luck. Mine was submitted today too. But my surgery is scheduled for July 1st. The office is confident that we will get an approval in a few days. I hope they are right.

Couples getting VSG?
evansmini replied to SamIAm3791's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband was sleeved Monday and I am scheduled to have the procedure July 1st. Were any of the wives/husbands a bit scared after watching their spouse go through surgery? -
Ahhh Cigna, fight it. My husband was denied by Cinga last week. We fought it tooth and nail, saw the dietitian again. Made the Primary Care Physician write "Cleared and Recommended for surgery" also has the physiologist write "unequivocally cleared for surgery." Follow the verbiage in the requirements to the T. Paperwork was submitted Tuesday and he was approved this morning. His surgery is scheduled for Monday. My paperwork will be submitted next week, so I'm sure I'll be in the same boat. Message me for any info.

I've reviewed it every which way is possible. Meet with the Dr's office yesterday, apparently they were not aware of the 5/15/2013 policy changes. Traditionally when the filed with Cigna they only did 3 consecutive months of Dietitian visit. The newest version of the policy is MUCH more specific and now includes the >= 89 day. I don't have the prior policy so I can't confirm if that is true or not, but just a few additional hurdles for us to go through. I'm confident things will work out, we do see a COE, so they should be familiar with fighting these things
