  1. I also have had that. If your doctor gave you a script for Nexium, take that. If not, get extra-strength Pepcid, crush if you are not allowed pills yet. The Nexium was extremely helpful to me.
  2. I am happy to see this post. I am 4 weeks post op. I had a mini-binge this afternoon for the first time. It was, indeed, mini, and I did, in fact, feel totally ooky afterwards. I recouped by having a 100 calorie, 20g Protein drink for dinner. I track my food, and I am 90 calories over my max of 800 (usually I am closer to 600). I was eating something I should not have been eating in the first place. I should have planned the binge, meaning that I should have counted out the number of, ok, the truth is that it was Cheetos Puffs (the soft kind), of Puffs in a serving, and should have just enjoyed every single one. It wasn't anything near a binge of the pre-op kind, believe me. The good thing is that I just got back in the saddle again. I don't usually have that kind of food in my house; this was an unusual situation because I had visitors over the weekend. I must remember to plan my off-plan treats, make them part of the food plan so that I don't have the need to binge.

    hungry?

My shakes turned on me on Day 9 post-op. Tried them again on Day 10 and 13. I'm going to stop them for a bit. I actually love my shakes, a Protein powder called "Oh Yeah" but for a reason I do not understand, they suddenly started to make me feel ooky. No other word for it. Even though I "graduated" to soft foods yesterday, I had planned on continuing with one shake (I've been having a shake for b-fast for months). For pure protein, I recommend Genesis Today Protein 100 - that's a clear liquid. 60 calories per 15g protein, no carb, no fat; Syntech Fuzzy Navel is around the same. I saw my NUT on Day 9 and told her about the ooky shake that morning. She suggested I try a different brand for a while. Having now proven to myself that the shakes are, indeed, making me feel officially ooky, I think I might.
  4. I have been extremely selective of the folks in whom I have confided because of the inability of some folks to have any sort of empathy. It's not easy, as some of these folks are people I have lunch/dinner with once a month. I've been "busy" for a month now, but being 13 days post-op now, I think I will have to develop a tummy-flu for a week or so. Yes, I hate the deceit, but, in reality, it's none of their damn business anyway.

10 days post-op and Im hungry!

I know exactly how you feel. There's no "psychological" about it. I have felt like I am starving for the past 13 days. I have been following the food plan rigidly. I was "promoted" to soft foods starting yesterday. Nine days after surgery, I was so hungry I had to get up from bed at 11:00pm to eat a half cup of plain, fat free yogurt. I was so hungry, I literally could not sleep. The yogurt helped. I think it was a little better today. Being so hungry has been the big disappointment post surgery because I know that so many folks have no hunger at all for some time. My plan is to be very careful in following the proper diet in hopes that things will get better. I have 2 sources for protein-only (no fat, no carb) at around 100 - 120 calories, and I am being very careful to imbibe those, along with three small meals of around 300 calories each.

    AVOCADO?

Blender up some white meat chicken; spread a little smashed avocado on it.
  7. Some people give compliments and mean them. "Thank you" is the appropriate response. Sadly, some people use backhanded or negative "compliments" (your face is hollow, you shouldn't lose any more weight, etc.) that are not meant to make you feel good but reflect something nasty inside of them. Those people generally just get a stare and blank face from me. I'm not into intimidation. I turn and walk away - they know what they've said. It's usually jealousy. I've been through this my whole life living on the Yo-Yo. To people whom I do not know well and do not consider friends, my response to "How much weight have you lost?" is usually something along the lines of "my body is not an appropriate topic of conversation." You know when someone is trying to be supportive; unfortunately, there are whole bunches of folks who are not supportive. I have no time for them. When friends ask how much weight I have lost, I am happy to share.

5 days post op and am in pain!

My surgeon suggested 2 crushed pepcid several times a day. That has helped. ( I am one week out from surgery). The gas has been quite uncomfortable. Walking has, indeed, helped.
  10. When I couldn't stand one more teaspoon of chicken broth, I had an idea: I ordered a quart of wonton Soup from my local, strained the broth into a bowl for me, and gave the hubster a big plate of wontons. The second time I did it, I poured some boxed chicken broth into the the quart container and put it into the freezer. It was a great change - so delicious. Since that worked, I ordered some coconut-lime soup and did the same. Oh yum. A little pricey to get broth but a life saver for me.
  11. Thanks for the jello suggestion. I'll try a little Fage yogurt today.
  12. I got through pre-op and going through post-op with Oh Yeah! Protein powder. You can order online or find at The Vitamin Shoppe. I used plain almond milk (4 oz, 30 cal) as the base, along with some crushed ice pre-op. Delicious. Doc also said that he was totally impressed with my liver during the surgery, so the shakes must have worked well. The Oh Yeah! also come in a prepared formula that is not as tasty as using the powder and doing it yourself.
  13. I am three days post-op and I feel like I am starving! I think I had read somewhere that the gas (which is pretty awful) can mimic the hunger pangs. I am trying very hard to follow post-op directives. Any advice? I have no problem drinking the 6 oz Protein shakes. I have had 2 today. Off-times I have Water. I had broth for dinner.
  14. I am 62 and have 105 pounds to lose; I've lost 17 in the month leading up to my surgery which is in 2 days. I am hoping that weight loss will add a few years to my life so that I can be there for the graduations and weddings of those whom I love the most. It's too late for me to look like Sophia Loren (!) but not too late to try to be a healthier person. With any luck at all, I have two more decades, and I want those to be as active and healthy as possible.

    Pains in my legs?

Leg cramping is a common side effect of dehydration. Checking with the MD is absolutely necessary but please also try to get more H2O if possible.
