THE ROAD IS COMING TO AN END: PRAYERS PLEASE
shedevil replied to OldskoolHeart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly where you are at. I've thought about this for over 10 years although it was bypass then. I kept trying one more diet. I lost weight only to regain it. My husband kept bugging me telling me it was my health. All along I thought it was just because of the way I looked. At the end of last year, we found out that his insurance would cover weight loss surgery. I figured it would be 6 months of dieting blah blah blah. I started that journey believing that only to gain weight on the diets. I was so exasperated! So I decided to go to a surgeon's office and let them help me fight the battle. I went to them in May. I found out that my insurance did NOT require the 6 months dieting & my past diets would count. I've had a few glitches since then. But I am scheduled for August 30th. I have my last surgeon visit & a pre-op class next week. Now I am so excited & yes....nervous. But I keep dreaming of what I will look like and I want to get off the BP MEDS! I'm also excited to do more things & not be a couch potato anymore. I told my husband that I wanted to go on another cruise next year but this time I will enjoy the activities. I finally came to the realization that it was for me and me alone. In fact, my hubby goes on vacation just a few days after I come home but I know I can do it! I do have some other support but he won't be there. So absolutely you are doing the right thing! -
surgery and kidney stones
shedevil replied to Cheree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try the bump and jump. Works for hubby. Drink water and jump flat footed. Water acts like a hammer and pushes it out. Google bump and jump for kidney stones. -
I agree. This wss an awesome birthday! Girlfriend took me The Olive Garden. Hubby took me to Texas Steakhouse. Pre-op diet starts tomorrow. However surgeon doesn't require it. Supposed to lose 8 lbs tho. Not exactly sure about what to eat. Just going to do soups; jellos; water. What else?

Very nice! -
I'm just curious why so many plans want you to lose 10% first before surgery? What is the point?

I have not read all of the posts on this subject but my opinion isthat most people are food addicts but not all. I was good until after menopause. Now its a struggle. My surgeon told me that once you are over a certain bmj snd you have dieted every diet..it is virtually impossible to get back to a normal weight. Those hormones in your stomach don't let it happen.

Nightmare PA from Hell!
shedevil replied to BIZZYBIZZYBEE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems like it is common. I was going to Banner Gateway. I got everything done but egd. They called ins for authorization and it was a no go. Apparently banner is a center of excellence but not a center of blue distinction. Insurance is anthem bcbs. They told me st luke or scottsdale bariatric. When i called them they didnt know they were a center of blue distinction. I have googled centers of blue distinction and their name came up. You would think they would know. You would have thought when banner first called to find out my benefits someone could have told them. So now I'm having all records transferred. Hurry up and wait! -
Had my first appointment today..
shedevil replied to Goddardgo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I went to Banner Health and mostly they say sleeve. They said they have not had such success with lap bands and there tends to be more complications plus jot as much weight loss on average. -
My insurance is BCBS Anthem

My insurance states 6months. However when i went to the consultation they had found out it could be previous diets. So i was good to go. It's worth asking.

I had my first visit yesterday. I was expecting to maybe have surgery 6 months down the road. I was told yesterday that I could expect July or August. Mostly it will depend on when I can get in for the psych eval. I've thought about surgery for many years but my insurance would never cover it. My husband had been saving $ for us to go to Costa Rica. But his insurance now covers bariatric surgery and all of my previous diet attempts count towards the 6 month diet. So now I'm both nervous and excited.
