  1. I have a question about pre op diets. The one I am on is a Slim-slow for breakfast and lunch, and a lean cuisine meal for dinner. I can also have some sugar free jello in there. I am tired of the sweets! Y'all think it would be ok for me to have some chicken broth? I just want something warm and savory on my tastebuds!

    Pre-Op diet questions

Hey, I am on the 28th too! I suppose that makes us twins of some sort??? I went ahead and found a very low fat/carb/EVERYTHING!!! Chinese soup mix. It pretty much staved off the craving for a hearty/savory food. I also got some sugar-free Popsicles... I have not had them since I was a kid! now I know why kids want to eat them all the time! those things have crack in them or something. I know it! I was good though. I just had one! even though they are on the "free foods" list.

    Well, here I am!

It has been a LONG road getting here, BUT, I have a date and will be banded on the 28th of Nov. '07. Yippy! I had no idea there was a Nov 07 board. So I guess this is my Official introduction. I am 400 Lbs and a 52 BMI, male. I figure since I am male I will hopefully lose weight faster. I just wanted to say howdy to all and I am glad to be here. Cant wait to have the band placed! Later, Craig

    banding over Thanksgiving week

Hey I graduated from TSU in 2002. (Tarleton State University) that is. He He. Anyway, congrats on your band coming up next week. I am getting banded on Nov. 28th by Dr. Sims in Waco, TX. I cant wait till we are all posting up our success pictures!
  11. I am interested in what small things surprised you as you lost weight. i.e. freely crossing your legs. Were you able to do things you had forgotten about being able to do. I think this could be an encouraging to us that have not been banded yet or are just getting started. I know that everyone that loses weight will be able to walk more freely, and live a more fulfilling life... I just want to know the small things that made you smile the first time you were able to do them again.

    The little things...

Do not use this thread... I had no idea what a NSV was... now I know! Use this thread instead.

    Pay for the band! Poll!

Was going to go self pay but then my old insurance covers Lab Band. I am having to COBRA the old because my new insurance does not cover any bariatric surgery. I am having to pay the surgeon up-front and then insurance pays me back (minus my co-insurance)

    Yippy!!!

Well, Today my inch-thick file was all faxed over to Cigna for approval. We will just see if they hold up to their 15 bus. day approval. I sure hope they do... the barriatric center went ahead and gave me a surgery date of November 30th with the understanding that it is easier to cancel a surgery than it is to get me under the knife on short notice. The 15 days is up on the 28th, so this is going to be a tight squeeze! I just pray that God can work wonders in the insurance industry! I am on cobra insurance now because my new job's insurance does not cover ANY barriatric surgeries! If I can have the surgery before December, I will not have to cobra that month!

    Omg, I Love Cigna!

A word of praise! The insurance coordinator called me today and said that apparently the way my insurance is set up, after I jumped through all their hoops, I was automatically qualified and approved! that came MUCH faster than I thought it would!!!!!!!!!! I just submitted to insurance on the 7th. I will have surgery the last week of November. WOW that is just a few weeks away! I already have the 30th set up as a surgery date, but I think I will bump it up a couple days to make sure my stay in the hospital is covered. I think if I have surgery on the 30th, and get discharged on the 1st of December, they may not cover the first, because I canceled the insurance on the first of Dec. enough of my rambling... this is really going to happen!

    Yippy!!!

Thanks for the heads up! I asked by insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office about this today. She said that my first year of appointments are all free. (included in the price that insurance pays) This should cover me it sounds like. A word of praise! 18. Sorry about the denial... YES... I am very interested in why you were not approved. I am filing with Cigna tomorrow!!! I would like to know what happened so not have it happen to me.

Yea, I think I will defiantly fire that at the fella if he keeps persisting! I am glad you got a kick out of it!

    Help me out here!

I have this guy up at work that keeps saying negative comments about my upcoming surgery. I have been assertive in letting him know that this is my decision to make and it is a major life change that I am willing to undertake. This has been the "norm" for the past three months since I started working at this place. Fast forward to today... we were all rearranging our office (drafting office so there are a bunch of desks) and I was sweating and getting winded. (easy to do at 400 lbs.) This fella says to me "you just need to work out more and eat less, not take the easy way out by getting surgery". Man that burned me up! Like I said I am the "new" guy and It is a pretty loose office. We have fun and joke around with each other. It really is fun at times. It is a small business and there is no real HR department. I do not want to look like the guy trying to get people in trouble. What on earth can I do? The fella is bipolar and really strong so I don't want to tick him off too much if you know what I mean! I am at a loss for the first time since I began this whole journey.
  21. Praying is a great thing to do... But as my program administrator said when dealing with Cigna... CALL, CALL, CALL. Be the squeaky wheel!

I had this coment the other day. He said "give me the money your spending on surgery and I will be your personal trainer". This is like the 4th time he has given me a hard time about having the surgery. Funny thing is... He just recently divorced his wife and I never gave him a hard time about that. I can just see it now..."give me the money your spending on your divorce and I will give your marital counseling"! Somehow I dont think it would go over very well. I ended up having to tell him that this was a Major life decision I had to make and I have made up my mind. Please stop trying to change my mind for me.
  23. Take this for what it is worth... I was talking to the program administrator today at my docs office and we were talking about Cigna and how long they actually take to approve. She told me that they accidentally told her that Cigna tells all their customers that they have 30 days to approve or deny where in reality their policy is 15 days! She was glad to have that piece of info in order to keep them on the track when she files for me! Hope it works in 15 days!

    band lost

During one of my "yo-yo" diets, I had lost about 60 lbs. My wedding ring no longer fit snug enough to stay on my finger. We went and bought a MUCH less expensive silver ring to substitute until I got to my goal weight. Well that never happened! I think this time around I will get there. By the way, our wedding rings are James Avery, if anybody knows who that is? Here is the site. Pretty cool jewelry.
  25. Hello fellow Cigna folk. I only have one more dr. visit to finish out my 6 mo. red tape hoop jumping. I HAVE to have this surgery before years end for a lot of reasons. I am just wondering... is there anything I can do to make the approval come quicker? Are there any things NOT to do? Just thought I would ask the "pros"
