So what is a good "rule of thumb" when deciding on a food, according to calories? I'd there a particular "number" that y'all try to steer away from, just as a general "rule of thumb?"

I'm so glad to hear all of these answers! I DESPISE the way fat-free stuff tastes! And when you can only eat a few ounces... it better taste good, dadgumit! So... What is more important to watch (or make decisions based upon)... Calories? Carbs? or Sugars?

HELP! My doc told me that mucus could be what is making me nauseas in the morning? Because there is such a build up of mucus in my sleeve overnight, liquids can't get down, this making me feel sick. He put me on Claritin and Mucinex... probably for life. It still isn't working tho! I even take hot showers and try to hack it all up first thing in the morning. He also suggested starting the day with hot tea or coffee, but even that makes me feel like I'm going to hurl. Any ideas??

Is my Nexium the PPI? I take it in the morning. I tar the Claritin before bed... but to be honest, I can't get the NASTY Mucinex liquid down!!

Anyone had surgery to have a baby...
kjordan83 replied to linda305's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I'm right there with you ladies! I'' 11 days post-op and I'll be 30 this year. My husband and I tried for 5 years. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance about 10 years ago, so we knew the difficulty we were facing when we began trying. When we started fertility testing and treatments, we learned that my husband has very few, very low quality swimmers. That was a shocked! All those years, we thought it was just me. We have never stopped trying, but we adopted our precious girl from CPS 3 years ago. My doc said to wait 18 months. I REALLY want to be at goal weight before I have the possibility of getting pregnant. Like everyone else, doc wants me using BC, but I don't want anymore hormones... I just ordered our FIRST BOX OF CONDOMS! I felt like a dirty teenager ordering them online! Never used them before! Do y'all think that's okay?!?! P.S. I didn't do get sleeved solely to get pregnant, but the possibility was definitely as decision-making factor! I did this so I can live a long, healthy, active life with my precious little family! If God grants us a birth child, we'll be ready for it! -
Way to go!!!! I'm 10 days post-op and I started at 277!! I'm 5"4... How talk are you? Congratulations!!! I hope to do as well as you!!

Severe pain on right side of stomach!
kjordan83 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to the anatomy picture attached, it is either my liver or gallbladder that hurts like hell! At first I thought it was the incision that is directly above it, but it's about 6" radius around that incision. I can't let my belly "rest" on it's own, or lean over, or anything without excruciating pains! Anyone know what that could be!?!? I'm calling the doc first thing in the morning, but thought y'all could put my mind at ease tonight! I'm drinking lots of fluids... not quite 64 oz, though. -
I went to the doc about this today!! She didn't call it the "slimies," but that's exactly what I had! Mine wasn't due to a particular food, it was just the buildup of mucus in my sleeve! I am now on Claritin and Mucinex (not D!) I got the Claritin redo-tabs and they were super easy to take... The Mucinex, however, was impossible to get down!! It was a nasty, blueberry liquid... I don't know how I'm going to finish my first dosage!!!

Any other July 1st sleevers home?
kjordan83 replied to Bredred's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my gosh, y'all... I am STRUGGLING! Everything is sooo uncomfortable going down and then makes me nauseas. I'm now on full liquids and end up sipping chicken broth. That and Popcicles are the ONLY thing that go down without a fight. I discovered that I'm now HIGHLY lactose intolerant now and my unflavored Protein powder is dairy based, so I'm not get my protein OR liquids. I only had about 20 oz of fluids today. Due to that, I'm incredibly weak and woozy and can hardly walk to the next room without help. I cried all night because this is WAY harder than I anticipated. I'm not regretting my decision to get the sleeve, I'm just wondering if I'll make it to the point where the sleeve is FUN! I've already lost 20 pounds (12 since surgery) and I can't even Celebrate that. PS... I'm STARVING! Serious hunger pangs. My body and mind CRAVE satiety! It's so frustrating. For almost 4 weeks now, I have had nothing but liquids, my body has been hungry for 4 weeks. I'm so tired of being hungry. I'm not asking for pizza... I just want something that will go down my sleeve and satisfy me. Sorry for the rant and all the CAPITALIZATION... I'm just crying and venting. Anyone else experiencing this? -
Best Post-op Protein sources

I LOVE the Syntrax Nectars!!!!! The best thing about them is they are not $50 bucks a tub like some of the others... plus, they are Lactose-Free with is a biggie!!! I became lactose-intolerant after surgery... I'm 8 days post-op. before surgery, I bought individual packets of allllll of the flavors and tried them out. Some were amazing, some where not. The ones I ended up buying were the Cappuccino, vanilla Bean Torte, and Double Stuffed Cookie. Also, I mix mine with Water and just a few ice cubes. It becomes just a nice drink, not a shake. I'm sure I could add more to make it thicker. SN also has a frothy layer that will immediately begin building up after you mix. This wasn't a problem pre-op, but now I'm trying to avoid extra air!! So I just use a small straw and drink from the bottom and stop before I get to the froth! -

Did y'all start full liquids today? I did! I had gotten to where I could easily drink my clear liquids, but I'm back to itsy-bitsy sips with the protein shakes and blended soups! I discovered yesterday that I am also now lactose intolerant! I guess I'll just have to deal with the diarrhea for now because Im not wasting the $100 I spend on protein shake tubs!!!! Argh!!!! -

Best Post-op Protein sources
kjordan83 replied to supermom223's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BIG believer in ISOPURE!! It's a great way to get your liquids and Protein easily!!! I also pour mine into little tupperware bowls and freeze them... They become like a protein slushy! So if you drink two a day... That's cheaper than what you would normally spend on a fast food lunch, alone! Totally worth it!!! I sampled all of the FLAVORS before I purchased them and here is my assessment: Isopure FLAVORS - ranked: Apple Melon (flavorful, strong) Alpine Punch (not strong, but sweet) Grape Frost (not strong, not sweet) Blue Raspberry Peach Mango Icy Orange -

Vixynne, I wish that would be an easy fix, but I haven't had anything but clear liquids! I have been adding Isopure Unflavored Protein to everything... what do I look for on the label? I hope I didn't buy that $50 tub for nothing! -

Hey y'all! Today I am finally able to take a more normal sip!! It's not a full gulp, yet, but definitely can get more down! Whew! TMI: I've also started having severe diarrhea today... anything to worry about? Also, my incisions have always been sore, but today the one on the right side of my stomach (not the large one where they pulled the excess out) is UNBELIEVABLY painful. Any movements I make almost make me cry. It's not just the incision site... It's also whatever is behind it that is incredibly sensitive to movement. Any ideas? -
I'm going to get it bound sometime next week and will update with pictures! I'm including enough logs for 6 months, until these food choices are just 2nd nature to me. I have it set up for 7 days of food logs (including exercise and Fluid intake), then a weekly summary page with reflections, patterns, emotional aspects, scale movement, revelations, and goals for the following week. Then, at the end of the month, there is a Monthly Measurement page to review inches lost over the month, as well as weight loss, and BMI. That sequence goes on for 6 months. In the front of the book are some helpful guidelines... A "cheat sheet" per say, of the guidelines given by my doctor and NUT. I also have a few helpful food portion charts, hunger scale, my depressing before pictures, and some inspirational quotes/pictures, etc. If anyone is interested after you see the final product, I don't mind uploading the PDF document so you can make your own. No sense in recreating the wheel, right?

Teachers Supporting Sleeved Teachers
kjordan83 replied to ambervsg2013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a teacher in Eastland, Texas! I spent 7 years in Kindergarten and made the switch to High School Spanish last year! I absolutely love the "big kids!" I was sleeved 6 days ago on 7/1. I'm so glad I have more summer to recover because there is NO WAY that I could go back to work after a week!!! I'm still dependent on pain meds and my hubby! It's been a rough week. I CAN'T WAIT to start dropping the weight... I think my students will be just as excited as I am! I'm also the Cheer Coach and I will feel a lot more "worthy" of that title when I am more fit!
