july 2013 sleevers
AnnMarie1957 replied to sureaboutme2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 7/18. I'm down 64 lbs. Exercise is a challenge but joined a fitness challenge at work and it helps. My weight-loss stalled for a while. My doctor admonished me about not getting enough Protein. Since I committed to a Protein shake (30 grams) every morning, the weight really started coming off. I don't count calories but I do eat very healthy. Very low fat and low carb. But a glass of whole milk every night to avoid constipation And I have a treat every few days...a few M&Ms or a mini candy bar. My hair has thinned out incredibly. I'm taking Biotin and waiting for it to come back. In the meantime, a good volumizing mousse and texturizer are camouflaging it pretty well. Good luck and stick with it! -

Any husband and wife sleevers?
AnnMarie1957 replied to Autumnrain1908's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband was sleeved 5 weeks before me. I was sleeved on 7/18. As of today, he's lost 73 lbs. I am down 62 lbs. We seem to be losing at a similar pace. But for us, the weight loss is a happy by-product of our reasons for the surgery. After 10 years on Metformin, neither one of us is diabetic. No more high blood pressure. My kidney function is almost normal. Pre-surgery, I was looking at a second kidney biopsy. Time will pass. Weight will come off. Our goal is healthy living. The scale will take care of itself. -
Why, why, why, Delilah?
AnnMarie1957 replied to AnnMarie1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All good advice. I've reduced shampooing to about once a week. No more hair dryer. It's air dry for me. And I just finger comb it to reduce breakage. I refuse to let hair get the best of me. A dear friend went thru chemo and lost every strand. Her dignity and strength made her more beautiful than any hairdo. She was in the fight of her life and didn't sweat the small stuff. I'm going to follow her lead. -
I have always had thick, wavy, luxurious hair. Truly. Whenever someone complimented my hair, I would go into full Fat Girl mode and deflect it by saying... God is fair. He gave me a weight problem but balanced it by giving me great hair. So....60 lbs later, I am seeing less luxury. I am determined not to let my vanity get in the way of gratitude for the blessing of improved health. Type II diabetes - GONE. High blood pressure - GONE. Kidney function - IMPROVED close to normal. Besides, they still sell Eva Gabor wigs, right?

Wow...I didn't know you could take more than 5k units a day. I'll try doubling up. Thanks all! -

I take 5,000 units of biotin daily. -
You are not alone. I was sleeved in 7/18. I am committed to healthy eating but I do feel like I'm missing old friends. I made the decision to see a counselor who specializes in eating disorders. It helps a lot.

I was addicted to Chick Fil A. Since being sleeved on 7/18/2013, I have been jonesing for one of their sandwiches. But, oy, the fat and calories! Fear not fellow addicts, I found a delicious substitute at Trader Joe's - Gardein Crispy Chick'n Sliders. Each slider has 190 calories with 6g fat and 11g Protein. And they are great. Satisfy the need for crispy. These are a good choice

My husband was sleeved on 6/12. He's on a full, no restriction diet and has lost 65 lbs. I was sleeved on 7/18. I'm still on soft foods. I'm down 45 lbs. Pretty excited about how great we feel. How's everyone else doing? -
This is a very premature question as I am still on liquids. Will there ever come a time when I will be able to enjoy a tiny amount of whole grain pasta? Veterans, what do you say?

All great insights. Thanks very much!

Who knew that split pea soup and a Babybel Gouda cheese could be so delicious?

Went to a family reunion today to Celebrate my godmother's 90th birthday. 75 people feasting on Italian and Portuguese delicasies. I was sleeved on 7/18/2013 so still on liquids. The food looked and smelled wonderful. I enjoyed it very much. Stuck with my lemon Water and had fortified myself with 30 grams of Protein. I have been 100% transparent about the surgery. It was so much fun and I got such loving support from my extended family. Wonderful. I will confess that when the homemade Italian Cookies came out, I asked my cousin for a zip lock bag. I can't enjoy them now .....but in a few weeks, those few cookies will be waiting for me in my freezer. I love my family.

Sleeved 7/18/2013. Went to Happy Hour tonite. Friends enjoyed pizza, fries, Reubens, pork BBQ. I enjoyed lemon Water and strained French onion Soup and the company of good friends. Proved to myself that the fun doesn't have to come from the food. It was a wonderful evening. -

My husband was sleeved on 6/12/2013. I was sleeved last week (7/18/2013). My husband is down more than 50 lbs. I hope to do as well as he has. He is my exercise hero. Really helping me get my 60 minutes of walking in every DAT. -
3rd day post op.....taking 4 hours to drink 11 ounces

Premier Protein shake tastes fine but a couple sips is all I can manage in 30 minutes. Is this normal? Sipping Water between sips of Protein shakes. -

OK...any quinoa, bulgar, barley, farro fans? Will there come a time when we can enjoy whole grains in reasonably small doses?

Burping and farting? 3days post op
AnnMarie1957 replied to robocop12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 7/18. Yesterday my belly was distended and painful. I was so glad when I was able to burp and start getting the gas out. Choice between breaking wind or being in pain is a no brainer. Let loose and let it rip. -
Surgery yesterday and feeling good.

Staff at Carolina's Northeast are wonderful care givers. Had my second walk and the most refreshing sips of Water. Dr. Bauman is my hero (for today at least). -
July 18'thers, are you ready?
AnnMarie1957 replied to ShayLeigh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be right there with you. I have to be at the hospital by 9 for an 11 a.m. surgery. Surprisingly calm. Staying up to 11 tonite to get my pre-surgery meds on board. Good luck. God bless. I am sure we'll all do fine.
