My nut does not use this at all. She recommends the Bariatric Advantage protein powder. -
Pre-VSG lack of support from parents
Cajunlady12 replied to jenRRT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dad and stepmom are not in favor of my having surgery. But I told them this is what I want and I am doing it. My husband is a great support system and people at work are all supporting also. To the people that think I need the surgery or don't want to have the surgery, I simply tell them that I am a grown woman and am making the decision for myself not them. -
I think that means that they don't cover it all even with your BMI and comorbity. Sorry.

I hear negative talk about the surgery everytime I talk to my dad and stepmom about it. The other day I told my dad that I had a date for my surgery, Oct 7th, he asked me if he should get his suit cleaned in case they kill me during the surgery. I was not impressed at his attempt at humor and told him so. My husband in very supportive of my decision. My boss and the lady I work with are also very supportive. I am excited about the surgery and know that I am doing the best thing for me.

Who is your surgeon?

I also had a six month diet requirement. The person I spoke with at my insurance company stated they wanted to see six months of failed diet and exercise medically supervised. I lost a total of 5 pounds during my six months. I was approved within a week of sending the information to the insurance and am scheduled for surgery Oct 7. Stay with it and good luck.

You look great. You deserve all the compliments from your co-workers. -
That's great. I was recently approved myself. I was approved within three days, and have my surgery date set for Oct. 7. I wanted an earlier date, but my employer requested that I wait until Oct because we are having a new administrator come in next week and I need to be available to train her. She has a vacation planned for mid Sept so I have to be around to take her place. Not happy, but what am I to do.

Spoke to my surgeon's office today and my appointment with him has been set for Sept 10. The surgery has also been set for Oct 7. I am really getting anxious and excited about it. Every time I talk about I smile and imagine myself skinny and leading a healthy life with my husband. -
I live south of Pittsburgh also, around the McKeesport Area, Elizabeth Township to be exact.

I agree with lisa2job. I had highmark at the beginning and everything was covered, then in the middle of the process, the Pa Fair Care Program was done away with. So I am now with the federal pre-existing condition insurance program and the surgery was covered just like it was on Highmark. What part of Pa are you from.

Damn Damn Daaaamn!
Cajunlady12 replied to ElliottWasHere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a CPAP machine and use it faithfully every night. I had this prior to beginning procedure for surgery. My PCP ordered the test. I have mild apnea. But the problem runs in my family, my dad has it very bad. But of course he weighs 345lbs. If I would not use the machine, I would not be able to sleep at night, neither would my husband. I had to do two sleepovers, one for the test, the second for settings on the machine. -
What to do with the negAtive nellies and Nay sayers
Cajunlady12 replied to catobird1225's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I told my step mom and sister yesterday that I have been approved for the surgery. Surprisingly my sister did not say anything one way or the other, however, my step mom tried to talk me out of this again. My dad and step mom have tried everything from saying they are scared for me to trying to use a guilt trip on me. I finally told my step mom yesterday that I am doing this for me and this is something that I want to do. She got quiet but I could she is stil not in favor of the surgery. I have a very good friend that says the people in the small town where my dad lives are jealous of me and are afraid I will become skinny and healthy. I happen to agree with her. -
I finally heard back from the surgeon's office and received a date for my surgery. I will begin my new journey to a healthy life on Oct 7. Nine weeks and counting. I am really excited about this time in my life. I have been overweight all of my life and now I will have a new tool to loose the weight.

how do I lower my CO2 level?
Cajunlady12 replied to alicosani's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are tests that can be done, either blood work or breathing tests, which will show what your CO2 levels are. -
I love your teddy bear. Maybe you should get one to hold onto when you have to cough after surgery.

The only thing I am concerned about is infection after surgery. I have a history of infections after my left total knee replacement. I had five surgeries on that knee in a year and a half time period. I know that as long as I keep the incisions clean that I shouuld be ok. Other than that I am ready for my new life. I want to be able to go walking in local park during the fall and take pictures of the leaves. I want my husband to take pictures of me without trying to hide from him and his camera. I guess this sounds weird but I know with the sleeve I can loose the weight and do all the things that I am not able to do being fat.

Raging headache day 2 of pre-op, and I'm not suppose to take anything....
Cajunlady12 replied to adargie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Taking ibuprofen can cause stomach ulcers and I don't think you want that to happen before or after surgery. My surgeon told me I could not have any NSAIDS after surgery and with my knee pain I need something. My othro doc has me on Mobic and I cannot have that either. Not looking forward to not having anything to help the knee pain before or after surgery. -
Incisional hernia post op?
Cajunlady12 replied to Oakleygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First thing I would do is call your surgeon and tell him what is going on. He may want to see you and do testing. -
Almost a month out..
Cajunlady12 replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a pre-op and I definetly see the difference in your stomach, waist and arms. Great job. I have been told not to weigh myself everyday after surgery, but I am sure I will be doing the same thing. Keep up the good work. -
getting the vertical sleeve approved
Cajunlady12 replied to JENNAMRAY's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am also waiting to submit my request. I have everything done except for one visit with PCP which is scheduled for Aug 9. The PCP's office will fax everthing to the surgeon's office and then the insurance coordinator will fax all of my records to the insurance company. I was given a check list when I met with surgeon's offic the first time. Everything is done except for the last weigh in with PCP. I have talked to my insurance company person who does the bariatric cases and she feels that I have everything I need and that I should be approved with no problem. Just waiting for Aug 9 and then we will see!
