Sorry to hear about the diagnosis. If you live close to Houston, Tx, I recommend going to MD Anderson Hospital for a second opinion. My mom did and they gave her 5 more years than her local doctors did.

Things I will NOT miss about being fat.
Cajunlady12 replied to unbesleevable1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After my surgery I will not miss: Sitting in airline seats that don't fit Shopping for clothes that don't cost a fortune Having pain in knees and back Having low self esteem -
Gastric Sleeve Surgery - What My Doc Told Me to Expect
Cajunlady12 commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
I went to my surgeon on Tues and was told that my surgery would take two hours. He would test for leaks while I am in surgery and that way I will not have to be tested the day after. I should be in my room, if one is available, an hour or so after I wake up in recovery room. My doctor has done tons of these surgeries and I am hoping everything goes well. -
I asked my doctor yesterday about stalls and he said not to worry about them. They will happen. But that is all they are, just stalls. You will loose weight and inches as well. I am not looking forward to the stalls, but I hopefully will not get too disgusted with myself, because I know they will happen. It is my body adjusting to the weight lose.

I got my date!
Cajunlady12 replied to Dravens_Mommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I saw the surgeon yesterday and signed consents as well as got pre-op blood work and xrays done. I am so ready for this surgery. My husband came with to appt and he really liked the doctor. I am 13 days away from a new beginning. I am getting a little nervous now, but I know I have made the right decision. However, my dad thinks I am crazy for doing this. My husband is so supportive. Thank goodness for him. -
I got my date!
Cajunlady12 replied to Dravens_Mommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on getting your date. I see the surgeon tomorrow and get my pre-op instructions for blood work etc. Then two weeks later on Sept 24 I have my surgery. I am getting more excited with every day that goes by, but I am also getting nervous. -
Darling, I am being sleeved the day after you. I am also excited and anxious at the same time. I am a wife and work full time and also working on my second masters degree. I want to loose between 100-120 pounds. Best of luck with your surgery and let us know how you do.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am so looking forward to getting out of my size 24's and into smaller clothes and also being able to do little things with my husband and even my grand daughter.
-
I am 5'9" and weigh 280. I am looking to loose about 100 pounds which would put me somewhere near 180. I would like to get to a size 10, but everyone is telling me that I would look sick. I have asked my doctor and he said 100 pounds at least is a good goal.

Anyone have Plans on September 24?
Cajunlady12 commented on DebDUtah's blog entry in DebDUtah's Blog
I have also plans for Sept 24. I am excited and scared at the same time. There are days that I ask my husband if I am making a mistake doing this and he tells me that I am not making a mistake and that he is very supportive of my decision. -
I've only met my surgeon once for 5 minutes... normal?
Cajunlady12 replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have met my surgeon only once. That was for the two hour class. I also met with nurse and NUT that same day. I have a pre-op appointment on Sept 10 and then surgery on Sept 24. I was given a manual which tells me what to do before surgery and also what I will be eating after surgery. Good Luck with your surgery. -
I called the insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office. She told me good news. I then heard from the insurance company. Also received a letter from the insurance company.

Bariatric Advantage for pre-op?
Cajunlady12 replied to greenivy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The NUT at my surgeon's office recommends them. I have tried them and I really like their taste. My favorite one is the banana and of course the chocolate. I hope you like them. -
I agree with you both. I have read so many books and also a lot of articles about the surgery. I can assist with surgery also. The best books I have read are the ones that are advertised on this site. They were insightful and full of information.

Is there a decaf coffeee that actually tastes rich and good?
Cajunlady12 replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Community coffee is only sold around the La. area. I have mine shipped to me by my dad. I cannot have caffine after surgery for six months, so I plan on not having any coffee until then. -
I am from Louisiana but now live in Pa. I don't like boiled peanuts, but I do like the crab boil in boiled potatoes. I have several bottles of the stuff. My husband who is from Pa knows when I am cooking the potatoes because he can smell them in the basement when he comes in the door.

My surgeon does not require a two week pre-op diet unless you are above a certain BMI. I only have to do clear liquids the day before the surgery. So I am planning on taking off of work the Sept 23 and not return until after surgery approx 2-3 weeks.
-
Valkyrea, I finished my six month diet on August 5, the next week paperwork was submitted to insurance company and I heard back by Friday of the same week that I was approved. I scheduled for Oct because of my job, then rescheduled for Sept 24. I am so excited. Good luck to you.
-
I have a BMI of 41.2 and high blood pressure, arthritis and sleep apnea. I was approved with no problem. My insurance stated their requirements and I followed them to the letter. I am scheduled for surgery on Sept 24.
-
I have managed to move up my surgery date. My original date was Oct 7. My new date is Sept 24. I am so excited about the fact that I will be sleeved sooner that I expected. I talked to the nurse at the office and asked if I had to go on a liquid diet two weeks ahead of time and was told no. I only have to do liquids the day before surgery. I go see the surgeon on Sept 10 to sign the consents and get the surgery pre-op labs as well as the surgery explained. I am happy to move the surgery date.

Bit of a rant: Pissed off - upset - depressed
Cajunlady12 commented on BigDaddyJoe's blog entry in My journey
You do not look old and you do not look like a little old man. People will say anything to make you feel bad about yourself. I think you look great. As long as you feel good about yourself that is all that matters. Your wife is your support system and her comments should be the only ones you care about. My husband is very supportive of me and I feel his comments are the only that matter to me. -
One Year and down 90 pounds!

Great job, you look great. I hope I look that good in a year. -
I totally agree with you.

Arts137 I have sleep apnea and have had the machine for about five years. When I first got the machine I hated it, now if I have go anywhere overnight, that is the first thing I pack.
-
It does depend on the insurance company. I had to do all requirements then submit to insurance and get approval. Once I got approval then made appointment with surgeon who I see Sept 10 and surgery is scheduled for Oct 7. Just keep on doing what needs to be done. As far as the sleep study, I already have sleep apnea and CPAP machine so all I had to do was get copy of study sent to surgeon's office. Good luck.
