I think I was fine about 2 months after surgery. I had a drink at home a couple of days before my first outing to make sure I could tolerate it and I was fine. No beer, you will feel like crap. No sugary mixers - same problem, margarita's are out for me!. Wine gave me heartburn for a while, but if I stick to vodka & diet coke or another sugar free mixer I'm fine.

Day 2 first night home..
Newcster replied to rich8858's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just do what you can at first - you will be so much happier in a month or two! Hang in there -
Stalls are frustrating and I freaked out the first few times too. Now I know it just happens and keep doing things right and it will move eventually. I use a free IPhone app called Happy scale that I really like. It averages your weight, and shows it on a chart. After a few entries you will see that your chart looks more like stairs than a slide, but it still goes down. Stress doesn't help, just be honest with yourself and as long as you know you are doing the right thing be confident that it will happen!

Hair today gone tomorrow?
Newcster replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at 4 months, and chopped my hair off today. Didn't like how thin it was getting, so it seemed like the best option. My doc said not to waste money on the shampoos, just take the biotin vitamins and it will grow back thicker & better than before. I hope they are right!! -
1 hour every day!

I understand how you feel - change is scary. I had my surgery 3 months ago and I am very happy I did. I only wish I had done it sooner! But do get more counseling before you make your decision. The people who are unhappy after or have bad outcomes are those that are depressed and anxious before, and think the surgery will fix their life. It isn't magic, it is a tool to help you lose weight. You have to do the work, and you have to know it will only fix your size, not your life. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide!

I have the same problem, but more when I go out. Have to remind myself that throwing away the food is NOT a bad thing. In the past I would have eaten it all and worn it around. If I eat a little and toss the rest, I spent the same amount and I'm healthier with the rest in the trash. Of course I try to split a meal, order an appetizer, or ask for a smaller portion when possible, but if not, the trash is the right place for it!

Just go slow and you will figure it out. Everyone is different depending on how much stomach their surgeon left. Believe me, once you over do it and get sick you will know the difference! Good luck to you my friend - it does get easier!

6 month stall. Am I done losing weight?/
Newcster commented on KristyM's blog entry in KristyM's Blog
I think you look great! I'm your height, and have been told my goal weight could be anywhere from 150 - 195. Don't get hung up on the number - how do you feel? Are you able to physically do everything you want to? Can you buy regular size clothes now? Do you work out regularly so are strong and toned? Those should be your goals, not the number on the scale. Congratulations! -
Endoscopy is easy - I had no pain at all. I woke up from the anesthesia and asked why they were taking so long to get started - I was shocked it was already done!

Dull shoulder pain - please reassure me!
Newcster replied to Flup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had severe shoulder pain for the first couple of days. They put gas in your abdomen during surgery, and it has to dissipate. It should be going away soon. If it seems like more than that, call your doctor and ask them if it is anything to worry about -
It gets better - I was the same way for a few days. It gets better! First time I tried to work out I thought I would die, but I'm back to (almost) regular workouts now. Make sure you are getting enough protein in - no fuel = no energy!

ANYONE ELSE SLEEVED 5/28/13?
Newcster replied to bandtovsgdone52813's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sleeve was on 5/23 and I have moved on to soft food already. It's going well, but I have had some bumps in the road. The chewable Vitamins were making me sick, moved on to liquids. I couldn't tolerate the Bariatric Advantage shakes either, switched to Pure Protein and those are better for me. Talk to your Doc or the nutritionist at their office, they can give you some options. If they don't return calls, keep calling or just show up at their office - they should be providing follow up care for you! -
Tips for breaking my 3,4,5 week curse (i mean stall)
Newcster replied to chinamama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure I'll get beat up for saying this, but it seems to have worked for me. I had a week long stall, was beyond frustrated and angry. I ate some high fat salmon dip on a couple of crackers (not a binge, a measured 120 cal tablespoon full) and was down 2 lbs the next day. My thinking is that with the huge changes in my diet, my body thinks I am starving and was holding on to everything. With a little fat coming in from food, it realized there is food coming and could go back to burning body fat.
