I'm so tired of being on the fence about having surgery. I've been going through all the steps, appointments and requirements for the last 6 months. I already have a surgery date the end of July. But for some reason, I am so afraid of going through with the surgery. It's something I've researched for several years. And I keep telling myself I should try to lose the weight on my own with diet and exercise. But with every attempt to lose weight, I just continue to fail. What finally pushed you over the edge? I need a push!

6 months out and 100lbs down

You look BEAUTIFUL! -
Why do I keep trying to do this on my own without surgery? I have been a professional dieter for over 20 years. Up and down. Up and down. I've gotten to the point where I don't want to try it on my own anymore because I know that I won't be successful and lose anything significant. I'm about 80-100 pounds overweight and I just need to do it! My insurance won't cover any type of WLS so I guess that keeps holding me back. Plus, I guess in the back of my head I'm afraid I will fail at this too. Thoughts? I need to do this. I feel like I've wasted 20 years trying to make this work. Thanks:)

Weight loss WITHOUT surgery?!?

Thanks for sharing. I like the concept swimming with the stream because that is so true. I feel like every attempt has been up stream with little results. -

Dallas, Texas Sleevers! !

Thank you! Actually had a consult with him today. He walked in wearing shorts and tennis shoes. Looked at my 20 pages of paperwork and said, "do you have any questions for me?" Never once asked me one question! Had to pay $170 for his "consult" which lasted about 10 minutes. Ridiculous!! So not impressed. Waste of my time and money! -

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC
rosemaryb replied to Kindle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hello OCC Ladies. I've been researching doctors for almost a year. I've now saved up enough money to pay for the procedure in full and I'm wanting to book a day and follow through with it! I'm a teacher and would like to do this early June when school is out. I actually called a local surgeon this week to see what he charges for self-pay. He's about double what Dr Ortiz charges. Any thoughts? I am ready to do this! But for some reason, I am a big chicken! -
Did you have Dr. Aceves at Almater Hospital?
rosemaryb replied to Jen40's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Researching Dr Ortiz and Dr Aceves. Both look like good options but I continue to scare myself out of committing to one. I've been saving up money for over a year and have enough to pay for the surgery in full, so I'm ready to set a date and move forward! Thanks for the detailed posts! -

Hello! I'm new here. I've been looking into having VSG surgery this summer. My insurance will not cover any WLS so I'm looking into Mexico. I've researched Dr. Rodriguez with Belite Weight Loss, Dr. Ariel Ortiz with OCC and Dr. Alvarez. I realize there will be good and bad opinions about each one. Tell me your choice and if you were happy with any of theses doctors. Thanks!!

Help me convince people Mexico is safe

I'm in the same boat as you. My insurance won't cover any type of WLS so I'm researching Mexico, too. I'm looking into Dr Ortiz at OCC in Tijuana and Dr G. Alvarez. Have heard good things about both, but need to decide if I'm going to go through with it! My husband thinks I'm crazy but after showing him their websites and testimonials, he didn't think I was as crazy:) -

I have a day scheduled in July, too. I have to send in my deposit this week but for some reason I keep talking myself out of it. I keep saying to myself, just try another diet... But obviously if that would work, I would have done it years ago! After you finally scheduled your surgery, were you at peace with your decision? -

Congratulations! -
I'm looking into a date in July. One minute I am excited and ready to do it, then the next minute I tell myself to try another diet. But after trying every diet out there for the last 20 years, I'm ready to be sucessful! I just haven't gotten up the nerve to tell my parents and I don't know what their reaction will be. Saying, "oh by the way, I want to have 80% of my stomach removed in Mexico" may not go over too well.
