My "seminar" yesterday - this will be long, sorry!
shamrock replied to Sharon T - PA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry to here it was such a bad experience. In Port Huron Mi. One of the 2 banding Drs speaks for about 1/2 hour. Take and answer questions afterwards. There nurse manager speaks also and tries to shed light on the preauthorization things and ins matters. Then at least one person who has been banded intros themselves and tells you of their journey. ALL are available afterward for questions. Then you need to call your ins for info, A letter from your PC. and a psych. consult. Then you set up a private consult with the DR.(This is where my dh and myself are at) and I believe that day talk to financial person and nutrition person. Give it one more chance and see if you feel better if not maybe you should look elsewhere. You really need to feel comfortable with these people. -
Oh goodness do not get me going on teenagers room. I think the health dept would condemn our house! The only thing I can say is there is NO food in there. Yeah my 14 yr old is still like that. When she goes to bed at night, it all has to be on her night stand. tissues, water, chapstick, benedryl lotion, flashlight, notebook and fluffy pen, cough drops, container with 2 tylenol and a snotty nose pill, picture of her and friends, extra pony tail holder. When she does not feel good so she sleeps in the living room on the lazy boy all this comes with her. you should see when she spends the night at a friends house it takes two trips to the van. And visa versa when a friend spends the night. Everything in her room has stuff stuffed in it. purses, boxes, etc and all this stuff needs to be around her. Enjoy smile, shake your head because there will come a day when it is all gone no more clutter and you will so miss it and wonder where the time went.

OH MY GAWD that is FANTASTIC. Thank you for posting the pictures. I have wondered what one looked like afterward. Hear people talking about them but not a clue on just how much of a difference one makes, or what the results Reeeallyyy looks like. You should be very proud of yourself and your accomplishments. -
will insurance cover me without....
shamrock replied to piercedqt78's topic in Insurance & Financing
Mandy your lucky, my bcbs policy wants 12 consecutive months of supervised weight loss attempts. My husband and I are lucky we have gone to our DR for 15 years and he has been with us for many, many attempts of weight loss. But I find bcbs being ridiculus with the 12 consecutive months. You would think they would jump at the weight loss surgery considering how much money they will save on all the other things they wont be paying for any more, insulin, strokes, heart attacks, knee and joint surgery etc. -

I have not been able to do it either. it just goes to a fertility thing too. -
What activities do you like to do. Join some clubs to get out among people. Take some lessons ie Golf then join a league. or hit some balls at a driving range. Do you like to bike ride. Look in your area for 1 or 2 day cycle events. Play pool? Bowling? Any mens soft ball leagues around get a girl friend and go watch. What community events are going on volunteer for something. You just never know who will be there or what new friend will introduce you to someone. Check into your community college for charater building courses. Guitar, gardening, whatever. :banana . The funny thing was I met my husband when I wasn't even looking for some one. That was 18 years ago As far as the band goes. Do what you feel comfortable with . And if he don't stay around, then you deserve someone else. This is just my opinion

wrap the ace wraps snug, not tight, you do not want them to restrict the blood flow either. Start at the ankle and wrap upwards. There are valves in your veins so it makes a difference which way you go. Good luck I hope you have a easy road of recovery in front you. Take care of yourself. (Beth)

I'm home, Today I went in and had a D+C. Dh is a real trooper, he has me settled in at home. He needs to go out and handle a service call, but I have A pepsi (I'm not banded yet) and pain pills at my side. Teen age kids are home now to. I was told to take it easy and stay off my feet for two days. Everything went pretty well, no fibroids or tumors but tons of unexpected tissue. Dr told husband we will talk options in two weeks lasar treatments for starters, We'll cross that bridge then. Meanwhile I feel pretty good. Thank-you for your support. I really hope none of this will interfer with getting the lap band I have no date yet we are still going through the preauthorization process.

I'm not banded yet so I don't know if can you take Aleve (naprosyn)? Thats what a Dr I use to work for use to prescribe for cramps. I know that is what keeps me on my feet at work now. I'm a nurse and there are some days I am on my feet 8-10 hours straight on the run and these knees are hauling around a load on top of having a torn ACL in one and a torn medial ligiment in the other. Two aleve before I go in and alot of nights my knees are the last thing on my mind. There are alot of things in the news lately with several different medications. All I know is naprosyn has been around over 25 years an it works.

Moderator and Privacy Issues on LBT
shamrock replied to Alex Brecher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been following this mess the best I can. I too have not been able to piece the whole thing together. But it sure turned into an ugle monster that keeps lurking around. The one thing that really bothers me is if someone here was posting under false pretense making up ficticious names and scenerios, every single one of lbt members was taken advantage of and being made a mockery of. It belittled every one of the members who come here and post their fears and triumphs. LBT and it members was being disrespected in one of the worst ways. Thus not making this site a safe place to come when we need help support and advice. Nor feel comfortable in offering comfort and humor to someone who thinks this is a game. Yes the members need to be protected against this. There needs to be guidelines to the moderators and members need to be held accountable for their actions. Taking the wait and watch approach has only let that this mess get way out of hand. It needs to be delt with very very soon. I agree with Whipple that their needs to be someone that the moderators to may go to. Enough said LBT is a fantastic place and needs to continue on. -
Good luck Tinkerbell. My husband and I are both in the middle of the preauthorization muddle. Good luck on your journey. Ask questions, ask alot of questions, both at the seminar and on forums like this one. Read everything you can.

Hi Zoe, I will be 48 on March 23. Regarding this Menses thing, I was regular all my life then, BAM I started my period on Nov 11 2004 and it did not stop until GYN put me on Provera 2-16-2005, Heavy don't even descibe it sometimes, I go in for a D+C, hystoscope and biopsies on Monday 3-8-2005, I think some of it is Premenopause even though the blood works said no. PCP seems to think alot of my problems are d/t my weight. He put it in his letter to the insurance. I will be asking the GYN for a letter also, figure it can't hurt. I feel good haven't had pain or cramping so I'm not to worried. One more step on my journey this year, one more step toward getting my band. Life IS good.

I have been watching this site alot. and posting occasionally, My husband and I both hope to be banded in the future. We both have seen our PCP who whole heartly agreed to put together a referral letter for both of us. We have both been under his care for 14 years. Yeah we have weight loss history (and weight gain :ermm ) He has faxed them to Dr Boutt and Bhesnia in Port Huron Mi. Dh had his psych consult yesterday and mine is Friday. We both have a consult with the banding Dr March 28th. So far everything is going smooth I just hope BCBS says yes to the preauthorization. We hope we can be banded in the summer. It makes no difference to me when. I am a RN want work contingent (when I want) But my dh is self employed and our 17 yr old will be out of school for the summer and ride in the truck and do the physical part. So he hopefully only has to take a week off staying home. Just thought I would update everyone. I weight 280 5'4" and dh 360 6'0. I enjoy this site. And have hopes it continues an its present positive path.

I just went to a seminar on Lap bands and Dr Boutt said also that another company is seeking FDA approval and it should be out in 1-2 years but it is very similiar. The only difference was they were looking at the snap area where the band closed because that is where they where finding it erroded the stomach wall. Currently they have improved the techinique on putting in the current ones by putting in a extra stitch at the snap site to keep a space between the stomach and snap. As far as Insamed new band the port will be a little thinner how ever only 3mm? not alot to make a whole lot of difference.Dr Boutt also stated when the day comes that they truely make a smaller port that is a big difference it should not be a major problem to switch over.

Nana I thought my husband was the only one that ate tuna mixed with cottage cheese. I will have to let him know he is not alone in the world.

How long should I be staying full? More questions...
shamrock replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't fret over it, your weight flucuates a couple of pounds all the time. The difference between morning and night, how much salt you consumed, how much fluids you have taken in, what time of month it is. I even wonder if it has anything with the Moon. It is the over all picture need to keep in mind. Hide your house scale, give it to some else in your house to hide. My son hides mine in his room,he's 17 I respect him to much to go into his room if he is not home. (I have dug through it when he was) -
How fantastic, hope all goes well and hope to see you on the message boards soon to tell how you are
-
Oh yeah, gotta love it. LOL

I am going to be 48 soon. Talk about nasty menses. 3 straight months of very heavy flow. Minor hot flashes I thought well here we go "the change is here." Not so the the Dr's office can to blood work to see if you are starting the change they check your hormone level and FSH Follicle(SP) stimulating hormone and a couple of others that flucatewith your menses and can tell you if you are pre menopausal or what. See a gyn if you can they are a little more versed with these things. Did your Dr do any blood work he should have with your symtoms. The room spining and heart racing things could be symtoms of other problems including thyroid. It turned out I'm not in the change but have some other problems that we are addressing. Don't worry or panic just take care of yourself and be good to yourself and get the blood work done to see in you are premenapausal.
