What do you tell the haters?

The Haters: I am 57 and just now preparing for surgery. I soooooo wish I had done this years ago because my weight ruined my health over the years. Bariatric surgery may not even restore me to health as some of the damage to my body is permanent. Not to mention the costs and side effects of taking multiple medications for decades. I have managed to have a full life ,except no children , but I allowed my weight to always dictate my life with non stop dieting and the constant battle of the roller coaster ride up and down 10, 20, 30 pounds. What an incredible waste of the best years of my life. I look forward to a heathier, thinner me after bariatric surgery. I want to live the next 30 years of my life with ME directing my choices, not my weight dictating my choices. If I am going to continue to be preoccupied with my weight and diet after bariatric surgery at least I am more confident that my efforts will be rewarded and not a waste of time doing "just one more diet". I have a better chance of maintaining my weight once the excess weight is off, as long as I do the work and follow the rules. The roller coaster ride is coming to an abrupt, permanent end now for me age 57! It is not too late for me but if I could have done this when I was younger, I can only imagine how my life could have been diiferent, better, happier, and healthier.

    Who Are You?

You are not invisible! I got your post, but I don't understand how! I too am new to this site and don't even get how to blog....or find more posts from you. Anyway, feel free to message me and I think I will be able to reply. I have been invisible my whole life, and sadly, found it comforting. WLS is scary business because I will now be required to participate in life, not hide behind my fatness and ugliness....i have found the WLS community has really kind hearts, so keep posting!

    The apocalypse!

Apocalypse post op vs pre op: I cannot believe someone else has also considered this very issue. This was one of the reasons I have now started down the road to vs surgery. I am so not physically ready to "battle" in my pre op condition, but I hope and expect post op to be a (pardon the expression....i gotta dream!) "a lean, mean fighting machine"!

    And so it begins...

Johnlatte: I have just started my 6 month insurance wait and have only 9 pounds to lose pre op so I was hoping maybe you or someone has a pre op exercise program to suggest to get me in the best shape I can be in to reduce surgical risks, and, to help me have a head start on reshaping my body for post op. Someone said maybe be walking a mile a day presurgery? Any other similar suggestions to shape my arse and legs? Is it better to have some extra bulked up muscles pre op, to make the post op body healthier? I hope this makes sense....

    Who Are You?

I would always lose some weight each Spring and Fall only to regain it plus 5 pounds more. I retired becsuse I was fat and tired, frustrated because I could pass the strength and agility job requirements but could not stop the weight gain . I retired two yesrs ago at 230 and my weight has decreased and increased from 230 to 204 back and forth. I have sleep apnea and have tried everything to find a cpap system that I can sleep with, but no luck 2 years out. So I am exhausted as well as fat. My PCP referred me for bariatric surgery and I have attended the first semjnar. I am pretty excited thst maybe I will get my life back....have energy again to do the things I love. I spent the last 30 y ears struggling with every diet known to man all to little avail.....from a the post

    Who Are You?

I am brand new to this website. Looks to be exactly what I need. I am a 57 year old retired game warden of 20 +years. Yes, my job kept me active but years of eating on the run, patrolling and sitting for hours upon hours took its toll on my weight gradually over the years. It was embarassing year after year to request larger size uniforms from the Quarter Master to fit me. I would always lose 10 pounds in yhe Spring and Fall because of
