Bandster Hell: Anyone in Heaven?
Coco replied to pandagirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Miminms, I sorry if I gave the impression that band slippage will happen to everyone, it doesn't just a small minority of bandsters. I couldn't have done anything different it is just something that can happen. I am covered for this op as it has occured during the 12 months since the orignal op. I am hoping the surgery will be less invasive as all the equipment is the same just the repositioning of the band. -
Bandster Hell: Anyone in Heaven?
Coco replied to pandagirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Pandagirl, I was banded January 3rd 2007. I can honestly say that I eat what I want (with the exception of bread, can't eat any bread since end of Feb:)) when I want and since I've had 4mls in my 8ml band I've been losing 2lbs a week consistently. It has all been plain sailing untill last weekend when my band slipped, this happens in a small minority of bandsters, I had to have my band loosened and as a result have lost all restriction. I have in one week slipped back so easily into my previous ways of eating that it scared me, I have gained 4lbs this week and my operation to reposition the band is not untill next Friday I have to control myself untill then and try not to gain any more weight. It is all head hunger, because I know the band is not working to stop the food going in I am eating more. One thing this has proved is that the band is the best thing I ever did, I have no regrets and I just want it fixed so I can get back to becoming a slimmer and healthier me. If you are a volume eater like me the band is the way to go. Good luck. -
Hey Skinny, You've lost 9.5lb in two weeks well done, as for the eating, I don't know what to say, I doubt you will get a fill before your monthly check-up but one thing I will tell you is to weigh yourself every week and record it so that when you go back to Jerome he won't average out you weight loss over the month. Make sure if you don't lose weight in the next two weeks to tell him that so that he will be more lightly to give you a fill. And also let him know that you are hungry. I know this doesn't help your prediciment right now, but on the other hand you should enjoy the food you can eat now because a few fills down the line and you won't be able to eat nearly as much as now.:) Hey Dini, I've no idea what the back pain is all about, maybe you should see your GP. Try taking a couple of solpadine capsules and see if that helps.

Hi Girls, Hey thanks for all your kind words and messages of support. I really appriciate them. I know this is just a kink in the road to a slim and healthy me, and today the date for the re op was confirmed for 13th July so just 8 days to go. I'm happier now that I know me and my band will be reunited so soon. As much as I'm enjoying having no restriction and eating anything and everything I want, I am missing my band and have slipped so easily back into the old ways of eating. Its confirmed what I already knew, that the way forward for me is the band and that it was the right thing for me to do. Skinny, have you tried eating normal food or are you still on sloppys. If your still on sloppys start eating normal foods, just make sure you eat your protein first, it will fill you up. Good luck. Dini, you had such a hard time, it can only get better for you. Sending virtual hugs to you.

Hi All, As some of you know me and my band had a falling out last weekend. Heres the update. After the xray had showed that my band had slipped a little Jerome took 1cc out of my band this helped straight away and I felt miles better and was at last able to keep fluids down. I came home and after 2 days I still didn't feel right, I had a dull ache in my shoulder and was suffering from heartburn. Jerome took another .5cc out of the band and again I felt better, over the weekend the pain and heartburn returned and Tara removed another 1cc on Monday, I have been given a provisional date of Friday 13th July (I Know, I'm not superstitious) for the op to reposition my band. Its such a dissapointment as I was doing so well and I know that band slippage is a possibility but I just didn't expect it to happen to me. I feel like I'v been dumped by my band just when we were getting on so well.:cry:cry I have little or no restriction and have even been eating toast, I mean I haven't been able to eat bread since the end of Feb. Anyway I hope once the repositioning is done that it won't take long for me to get back into the swing of things.

Hi Kermit Welcome to the site, we all have worries about the op its only natural. I knew this was the op for me as I was a volume eater, I have always eaten healthily (just couldn't stop ) although I had and still have a sweet tooth. Jerome told me that I would eat less and if I stuck to a healthy diet and did some form of exercise that I would have success with the band. I was banded on 03.01.07 and to date have lost over 50lbs. I eat what I want when I want and am losing 2lbs a week most weeks although this consistant weight loss didn't happen untill I had 4cc in my band. It is natural to be impatient after the op to feel restriction and in hindsight I worried far too much about what I could eat post op. I thought I've paid 10K for this how come I'm still eating loads, but it takes at good 12 weeks of getting to know the band having fills to your sweet spot and generally getting the mind shift from eating all you want to eating all you need. But for me its the best invention in the world and I would never regret having it done. Good luck on the 27th and keep in touch.

Hi SIB You should still be taking it easy with the exercise untill at least six weeks, walking and swimming are good but any heavy exercise at this stage might do more harm than good. Even if you're feeling well it will take at least six weeks for the stomach to heal and the swelling to go down. As for the eating, eat your protein first then your veg and then your carbs. Put your food on a side plate instead of a dinner plate and practise eating slowly, chewing and swallowing a teaspoonful at a time and putting your cutlery down between mouthfuls. :hungry: Believe me you will need these skills by your third fill. Its great that you are so well so soon after the op and I wish you all the best on your journey.

Hi Girls What do you say to us choosing a time in the evening to go to one of the chat rooms on this site to talk as a group???? It might be fun.

Your welcome and I was so busy blurbing on I forgot to congratulate you on passing your driving test. Well done. :clap2::clap2:. Your insurance will be so much cheaper now.

Hi SIB Don't worry about the weight loss at this stage, your stomach is swollen from the op and it will take a few weeks to reduce completly. The weight loss at this stage is great, enjoy it. It won't continue at this rate. Glad to hear your doing so well. You should be able to eat more normally by week two and by week six you will be begging for a fill. :biggrin1::biggrin1:. Make sure to sip plenty of Water up to your meals and then none for an hour after. Eat plenty of Protein at this stage it helps the healing process. At this stage custard is good as are slimfast drinks and yogurts. When you are able to eat hard food always eat your protein first, then your veg and then your carbs. (FYI Potatoes are not a vegetable, they are a carb.) Enjoy the feeling of fullness. Try to get your head round it, it took me 12 weeks in total to learn about the band and get used to it, its a huge psycological shift from eating all you want to all you need. Good luck and welcome to the losing side. :)

Hey allure, You need a fill and you need to book one, you didn't sign up for hunger or willpower because if that worked we wouldn't need the op. Phone and tell them how you are feeling and they should give you a fill. I didn't feel properly restricted untill I had 4cc in my band and once you get that feeling you will lose 2lbs a week more if you exercise. It is important to exercise because you need to tighten up all those places that need tightening. :) I've lost so much weight now that my band has slipped to a wider part of my stomach and I may need to have it repositioned. Will know more in the next week or so. Don't freak out this doesn't happen to everyone just a few and I guess I one of the lucky ones :rolleyes:rolleyes:rolleyes. Dini, you will feel better, I had the wind pains but they will disappear on day three. Keep walking around and take the pain killers they work. Oh and if you feel really bad, stand on the scales, it will cheer you up. Try it. :) Got to go and tuck the kids in. Love to all. It is worth it.

Hi Dini, Hope you're doing good, I was up in Owenstown Clinic on Tuesday and I was thinking of you, I almost went up to see you but then I thought I'll wait for you to let us know how you got on. Hope everyone else is good.

Hi Girls, Well I'm home safe and sound from sunny Italy, back to rainy old Ireland, where is our summer gone???????? And will it be back???? Anyway, I had a fab time in Italy, I ate and drank what I wanted to and the band told me when to stop and I listened... and guess what I lost 2lbs.:clap2::clap2::clap2: HELLO........ losing weight on holidays and enjoying the holiday.:) I LOVE THIS BAND.:biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1: Hope your all feeling good this week and don't be nervous about consultations, you'll be nervous enough when you go for the op. Dini, good luck for Tuesday, I'm sure it'll all go well. Let us know how you get on.:)

Hi Girls, Just a quick post to say hi before I go off to Italy for a week.:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: I've had a great week this week and I've lost 3lbs in total, so I'm now down 3st 3lbs (45lbs) since the op. :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1: I've been reading through the posts and honestly girls don't expect too much from the band in the begining. It takes most of us at least 3 fills to have proper long term restriction. As for the demon drink, I say enjoy it while you can because once you get proper restriction you will find that you have to sip your drinks as opposed to gulping them you will still be able to enjoy a drink just that you will drink a lot slower and become a very cheap date.:biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1: The food as well, you will spend the first few weeks worring about the amount you can eat, in most cases we feel we are eating too much. But again by your third fill you will be hoping you're eating enough. Its very tough in the begining because it takes a while before our head catches up with our band, and we test the band all the time, I wonder if I can eat this or that or I ate that and it went down ok so maybe the band doesn't work. Will we ever learn, well the answer is yes, we do learn the band does work but its a learning curve for all of us some people cope easier than others, but we get there in the end. Love peace and strength to all. Coco.

Hi All, I've been introduced to this site by some lovely girls I met in Bewely's Hotel in Sandyford on Sat. 9th June. You know who you are.:girl_hug: Its lovely to meet so many people from Dublin who have had or are in the process of having the op done. I had my op done on Jan 03.07 and have lost 3st to date. I was banded by Dr Jerome in ACS and have had no problems with the band and no regrets about having it done. Any questions you want to ask me go ahead, even the ones that you think are a bit out there.:target:

Hi Connie, we have 14lbs to a stone so my weight loss of three stone translates to 42lbs but as of yesterday I can add another 2lbs to that loss. :clap2:
