HELP - Charlotte NC - Need a PCP!

That's awesome! I'm glad you got an appointment there. They are top notch. My husband works for Carolina's Healthcare, and trust me they will take good care of you. Best of luck on your appointment.

    Water?

I'm pre-op, but right now I'm drinking a Vitamin Water Zero (squeezed lemonade flavor), which is naturally sweetened. The 20 oz. bottle has 0 calories, 100% Vitamin C, 100% Vitamins b5, b6, and b12, electrolytes, and other minerals and stuff. I figure after surgery the additional vitamins, especially b12, will be good for me. I suppose you could add a scoop of Syntrax nectar roadside lemonade Protein powder to it and really bump it up nutritionally. I bought a case of them a couple of days ago at Sam's. Fifteen in the case, 3 different flavors for $12.88. Next thing I want to try out is the Isopure clear. 40g protein in a 20 oz bottle. My post-op diet is Clear liquids the first week....I was told not to worry about protein for that first week, but I'm going to try to have 2 of the Isopure's every day for that week. I'm still being compliant with my doctor's orders, plus I'm getting protein. I want to try to be proactive in the protein department.

HELP - Charlotte NC - Need a PCP!

Hey there! I'm in Charlotte. My PCP is Jessica Kaiser at Carmel Family Physicians in Pineville. She is fantastic! She was totally on board with my WLS. She only accepts patients 3 days a week because she is now head of the practice and she is expecting a baby in October, so if you are interested, book now to see her. Their number is (704) 667-3600. They are a part of Carolina's HealthCare System. My surgeon is at Carolina's Weight Management, which is affiliated with Carolina's HealthCare System also. Good luck!
  4. Best of luck! Let us know how you're doing.

What brand of Greek yogurt do you like?

I like the Yoplait Greek yogurt. No fat and 2x the protein. Really yummy!!
  6. I'm sorry about your Aunt! Finding out that you are at a higher risk now is good, because you can be one step ahead by getting regular screenings as recommended by your doctor.
  7. That's awesome! I'm happy for you that it's over and done with.
  8. Yeah, PattyGee! Wish I didn't have to go through that one, but I'm over 50 so I needed to do it anyway! Getting endoscopy and colonoscopy at the same time on 7/11. Boo hiss!!

    Unjury tasteless not so tasteles...

I just placed an order with Unjury about 10 minutes ago. I ordered the chicken soup and 2 packets of the strawberry sorbet. I love Syntrax, so before I placed the Unjury order, I placed an order with Vitacost.com Awesome deals! If you use the code SHOPFUN at checkout, price per canister for the Syntrax Nectar was only $29 and change!! I ordered the vanilla bean torte, chocolate truffle, and the 1 lb unflavored. I'll let you know how the unflavored is when I try it.
  10. I am trying to do what Susie in Lima talked about. My surgery date is 7/22 and my pre-op liquid diet starts 7/8. I began thinking...it's going to be like going from 0 - 60 if I don't do anything at all before the liquid diet starts, so I started doing things a little at a time. Three weeks ago, I gave up all soda and carbonated drinks as well as all caffeine except one cup of morning coffee. The week after that I started experimenting with protein powders and started to eat high protein low carb meals. This week I gave up that last cup of coffee and I have a double protein shake for my breakfast (2 scoops powder and 1 bottle water) Next week I plan on starting some treadmill and nautilus activities. I just couldn't imagine doing a liquid diet without doing any of this other stuff, and it really does make a difference. I'm eating the right foods and I'm really feeling much better
  11. I think you will be fine. I just saw my PCP yesterday and she said it's a breeze. You might just feel a little sore throat from the tube afterwards. I have to do an endoscopy/colonoscopy on 7/11. The only thing I think will suck about that is the "colon flush" the night before and drinking 8 glasses of the crap you have to drink. Yuck! Let us know how it goes.
  12. Thanks, Sigma! I have some appointments to go yet. 7/3: bone density, dietary class, and pre-op consult with my surgeon. 7/10: Consult with anesthisiologist and consult with sleep dr. (my number from my home sleep study was just a tad above the normal range but no biggie....this is just a consult) 7/11: fitness consult at 8 a.m. then I have to be at hospital at 11 a.m. for endoscopy/colonoscopy. Whew! That's about it...other than pre-op bloodwork. I would call your insurance now, so that you can schedule anything else you may need to early enough. Your surgeon may want certain tests done also in addition to the insurance requirements.
  13. My insurance also does not require any formal supervised weight loss. They only needed to see one year of documented weight from my PCP, which was no problem seeing as my PCP and the weight management center are all within the same hospital system. I went to the informational seminar on 5/15. Their office called me the next day to set up an appointment. My first appointment with the surgeon was 5/29. I made a lot of my appointments that day and stacked them to get through it faster. I had the psych consult and metabolic breath rate test on 5/31, home sleep study and dietary consult on 6/3. I only needed dietary and psych approvals plus the 1-yr documented weights for them to submit to insurance. They submitted 6/4 and I received approval on 6/14. My surgery is scheduled for 7/22. I have other appointments in the meantime which must be done in order to keep the surgery date. But all in all, from first appointment with the surgeon til surgery, it was only about 7 weeks.

    What's your favorite Protein Powder?

I haven't tried anything savory yet. I'm thinking of ordering the unjury chicken flavor and the Syntrax Medical grade unflavored. From what I hear all of the unflavored powders really do have a little bit of taste, but you need to add it to something tasty as opposed to something bland to kill that.
  15. Looking hot and bikini ready! Congrats! Do you mind if I ask your before and current sizes to give me even more perspective?

    What's your favorite Protein Powder?

I like Syntrax nectar in vanilla Bean Torte or Double Stuffed cookie. I'm pre-op right now, so in the morning I mix 2 scoops with a 16 oz. bottle of Water. It would be even better with milk, but I'm content to use just water. Also, one scoop of each is really good also.

    Bye bye Lane Bryant!

Yup...I am definitely ready to part ways with Lane Bryant. I've bought so much crap there over the years....I should have bought stock in the company.

    Funeral for a friend

Congrats on quitting smoking! I'm approaching my 2 year quit date which is in August. It's a very liberating feeling not being a slave to nicotine anymore.

    Funeral for a friend

A couple of weeks ago, I started eating better. At the advice of my NUT, I started drinking at least 64 oz. Water every day, upped my Protein, decreased the carbs, and.....well....I had to give up caffeine and carbonated drinks also. I have lost a little bit of weight and in general I feel much better because I'm eating better, but DAMN, I hate giving up my caffeine. I am a die-hard Dunkin' Donuts gal. When I first started out, I gave up the Diet Pepsi, DD iced coffees, and reduced my morning coffee from 2 cups to one. Today is the end of the Caffeine Trail for me. I am sipping what will be my last DD coffee for a long time. Tomorrow I will begin having ZERO caffeine! During this process, I was lucky not to experience the caffeine withdrawal headaches, but I really do HATE giving up that one last coffee....you know....the morning one that gets you going. I am looking at it in a positive way though, as if it's just the next step in my journey. One more step towards better health and wellness. But for now, I am just sipping and relishing this one last cup of joe.

    Funeral for a friend

Surprisingly, I was OK with giving up the soda and the rest of the caffeine was OK too. It's just that one last coffee! I'm hoping that a lot of what I like now will be unappealing to me post op. Thanks for the good wishes!

    That is all....

OMG! I just LOVE grumpy cat!! I could be a poster child for this one!
  22. Try a sample pack of Syntrax or Unjury. I'm pre-op but I really like the Syntrax nectar sweets. Or you could try an unflavored protein in crystal lite or diluted juice.
