PROTEIN
shelbyschroepfer replied to shelbyschroepfer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm limited to where I can buy Protein right now (price limitations and location). We only have a Walmart, Walgreens, and GNC. I found a shake from GNC, can't remember the name off hand, red bottle (GNC brand) strawberry and single serve sizes. Like 29 grams of protein each. These are OK but are much more expensive because they're already made shakes, unlike making your own. 8.99$ I think for a 4 pack. Then I bought just whey protein brand powder, vanilla because all other flavors I just felt I'd get sick of fast, and I figure I can add fruit to vanilla to change the flavor a bit, this is the horrid stuff. I first tried almond milk, gag, Water is an absolute no go, and regular milk tastes OK but still gags me. I even mixed in sugar free chocolate syrup and it didn't help the flavor. Then I ordered the 11 sample packs of nectar protein. I got Cappuccino, stuffed cookie, vanilla bean torte, Caribbean cooler, lemonade, wild cherry, fuzzy navel, and maybe more. I tried the cookie one and couldn't even choke down one gulp!!!! Tried lemonade with water this morning and added ALOT of water to try and lessen the flavor, didn't help, I finished only 8 oz and it took almost 2 hours to choke it down I wanna save money by mixing my own shakes and I know once I have surgery (the 10th) I will HAVE to start drinking them no matter what!!! What can I do!!!!??? Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST -
How do you get over the "protein" taste of Protein shakes?!?!?! Ugh!!!!!!! All I taste is medicine and chemicals. I had such yummy flavors too but can hardly taste the yumminess. Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST

I just got a ton of samples too!!! Normally I mix with milk but I'm wondering if the "juicy" types would taste better in Water? Like the lemonade or cherry. What do you think? Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST -
July 2013 sleevers
shelbyschroepfer replied to lilyrose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
July 10th surgery right here! I was put on a 2 weeks pre op diet. 1 week of high proteins, lean meats, veggies, cottage cheese, protein shakes and jello, and then a 2nd week of strictly liquids. Shooting for 60 grams of protein a day and trying to "shrink my liver". I had fatty liver before this so I can understand that. I have had a real hard time with the diet. But I lost 4 lbs between Wednesday and Sunday so I must be doing something right!!! I've cheated a few times but my portions are TINY and I'm avoiding carbs and sugars (which I read enlarge your liver more than other foods). My birthday is the 3rd so I might cheat then too but I am confident I can lose a few more lbs before my day!!!! Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST -
My surgery date is July 10th!!! Started my pre op diet today, which is killing me. The past 3 months I have not been following my diet so this is extremely hard on me!!!!!!! Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST

I am 2 weeks pre op and looking for brands and kinds of Vitamins or other supplements to buy. My doc says that a chewable Vitamin with at LEAST 25-30 nutrients in it. I have Walmart, Walgreens and GNC at my disposal so something generic or cheaper that I can find at those places would be great!! Also, what other supplements would you all advise taking? I've seen Calcium and Biotin but am curious as to why? Biotin I know for the hair loss but why take calcium when you also take a Multivitamin? Thank you!!!! What's the verdict on potatoes? Are they healthy or not? I know sweet potatoes are but I just think they taste, well sweet. I mean a baked russet or Yukon potato for lunch? Is that bad? Just wondering post op diet changes so I can stock my house.

Okay let me first clarify that I do NOT intend to eat these foods after surgery (and really not even leading up to surgery) but it helps for my cravings to think about food. I'm very passionate about food. My moms been a cook at a steakhouse since before I was born so needless to say we were raised as cooks. The bad news is, my mom raised us on comfort food. Yes she serves fresh veggies and fruits (like dessert in our home) but she was big on stick to your ribs, make you fat food. I love to cook and I love to eat. When I travel somewhere new my way of learning the areas traditions or cultures, is by eating. Obviously that's how I got to 320 lbs, and I know I can't live that way any longer, but i also believe i can still LOVE food and love to cook food, i just need to learn to love BETTER food. I just wanted to start a food lovers discussion about our favorite cheats. The stuff that really makes us feel guilty. Some of my moms "fat food" happens to be some guilty pleasures for me. Like tator tot hot dish, biscuits and gravy, potato Soup, ribs, lasagna, chicken pot pie, juicy Lucy's, and Desserts that should be illegal. I also have a BAD HABIT of going out to eat a lot. My fiancé and I LOVE the dining experience. We love being in public and treating each other to date nights and spoiling each other, very unhealthy habit but it made us happy. Some of our go to places/meals were: bubba gumps, maple butter blondie at Applebee's, red lobster, hu hot Mongolian grill, artichoke dip from grizzlys steakhouse, Chinese buffets were BAAAAD for us, especially the sushi. So lets have FUN and just open up and tell some dirty secrets!!!! It's OK to make mistakes as long as we realize how much they hurt us now. I once ate a WHOLE basket of cheddar bay biscuits, a salad, an ultimate feast, mashed potatoes, broccoli, AND a piece of cheesecake!!!!!!! Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/10. How soon before chlorine/swimming?
shelbyschroepfer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to join a Water aerobics class this summer and thought that would be a great easy workout for my recovery but am wondering how long before its safe to swim in a public pool, an yes they use chemicals. Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/10. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
I live in a smaller town and we have a GNC, a Walmart, a shopko, and a Walgreens that carry any form of Protein powder. I'm wondering if just a large 3 lb jug of flavored or unflavored whey Protein powder will work for shakes, add to food or drinks and stuff like that? I can't really afford to spend a lot of the bulk packs of pre made shakes so I would rather make my own. Any ideas? Is there a certain ingredient I should be looking for? Thanks!! My surgery is schedule for July 10th with my liquid diet to start June 23rd, I've been eating healthier and exercising a lot to try and get myself down to a lower weight. When I first contacted my surgeon to pursue the surgery my weight was 321, that was January of 2012 and as of now I am 303. So some loss, but not much. I wasn't working out or eating different then, just cut out pop and added a ton of water, so I'm hoping now I can really lose some weight!!! I recently discovered the tractor tire/sledge hammer workout at my gym and WOW that can really get you sweating! Takes out some serious aggression too!!!! Just thought I would share my new found love of sledgehammers!!!

My surgery was just schedule for July 10th!!! I would've had it sooner but I'm getting married June 22nd and my doc doesn't want me miserable on my wedding. SO, I'm literally starting my liquid diet the day after my wedding ha! For my surgery, they have week 1 of 2 week liquid diet as mainly protein enhanced things. I can still eat veggies as long as their non fibrous, I can do cottage cheese, fruits (non fibrous), chicken, fish, lean beef. I'm wondering though, what are some creative ways to get fuller on the 2nd week of the liquid diet. I am stocking up on chicken broth, jello, carnation breakfast games, vitamin water, propel, applesauce(is that ok), and also my doc allows cream soup mixed with one can of water, as long as its the heart healthy kind. So like cream of chicken, cream of asparagus things like that. What are some better, tastier options for the pre op?

I'm told carbonation is a no no after surgery, not just right after, but for the rest of forever!!! Has anyone found a way to cope or replace the fizzy? It's not that I crave "pop" or anything bad, just crave the bubbles!!!

Carbonation
shelbyschroepfer replied to shelbyschroepfer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not looking to go back to coke or sugary drinks like I said. Here, club soda, plain club soda, I love the bubbles. It's more satisfying to me I can drink a few sips of that and feel more satisfied then if I drink a bottle of Gatorade or vitamin water. Not looking to "cheat" at all. Only trying to find truth behind some risks I'm reading on, without being judged. -
Carbonation
shelbyschroepfer replied to shelbyschroepfer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I'm mainly going by what my doc and the packet he gave me says. It says foods to avoid: carbonated beverages. I guess the gasses can stretch the sleeve (this is what my packet says), but I just don't see how it's that big of an issue. I don't have any form of vice with soda or sugary drinks but I enjoy a fizzy drink more than a flat one. An example is, today I found a new glaceau drink (makers of vitamin water) and its called fruit water. Sparkling zero calorie water. It's delicious and has no added sugar, no calories, and says it has a few different vitamins in it. This to me SOUNDS like a healthy alternative to pop, but does the carbonation make it unsafe? -
Anyone with PCOS?
shelbyschroepfer replied to nataliesunshine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have PCOS and have NOT had surgery yet. My date is July 10th and I'm hoping to all gods there are that it helps cure my PCOS. I've heard stories of people completely getting rid of it to where they didn't even need medication anymore. I have a huge stomach area, horrible menstrual cycle, and have tried having a baby for 3 years, with obviously no luck. We are hoping that after 6+ months and a positive amount of weight loss, we can try again and not need any IVF!!! -
Thank you!! How about further down the road? Are there potato products out there that are better than others. My dietician said that "Alexis sweet potato fries" in the freezer section are a good choice but this was a month ago while I was on the pre op diet before my liquid diet. I'm wondering if potatoes will ever be "ok" again.

I saw the cauliflower too but haven't found anyone who's tried it!!!
