my fittness pal
JourneyToLife replied to teamskinny_keea's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just signed up on My Fitness Pal and wow, this is cool how it knows the calorie, sodium, fat, etc. An tells you how many calories a day you should eat to lose weight each week. It's better to lose a pound a week than to gain 2. I know you can have friends follow along with you so I invite anyone who wants to be my pal to find me at "Journey2Life." Thank you I need all the friends and encouragement as well. -
I like your "nothing changes" poem you have. How true it is

I just found out that my insurance has approved me. I do not have to do any 3-4-5 or 6 month supervised diet. Insurance just wants psych eval, nutrition visit and dr visits. I've filled out all my paperwork and insurance only needs detailed diet attempts and primary dr letter of concern. My Bariatric dr is a 2 hr drive for me. So they e-mailed me the forms to fill out and e-mailed them back. Once my coordinator gets all the ducks in a row, she will schedule an appointment for a physician consult, psych eval, and nutrition class all in one day. It should be by mid August 2013 when my procedure happens. I will keep you updated. My preference is the gastric sleeve.

Any one else in recovery from addiction and getting VSG?
JourneyToLife replied to unbesleevable1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whether it is food, drugs, or whatever, an addiction is an addiction. The only difference between any of them is that they are dealt with in different manners. -
My breaking point was when I found myself unable to climb the 18 steps up to my apartment without being so winded. And every night when I lay down in my bed my palpitations were very uncomfortable and were increasing as my weight was piling on. Also, when I go out some where I have to wear something black especially my tops. They have to be big enough to be baggy so as to hide my pregnant-looking belly. I had been having a harder time finding those shirts in my closet and would go out and buy more. I want this excess weight off of me forever… I am so tired of being tired and ready to live my life the way it was meant to be lived... No more physical restrictions of climbing stairs, putting my socks and shoes on w/o hurting and having my belly obstruct me from doing so… and being able to reach my butt when I go to the bathroom first thing in the morning w/o back pain!!! (TMI) I know and don’t care at this moment… I am so mad at myself for letting my emotions and food dictate my life…I am writing this out of sheer desperation to be understood…Who else feels this way? On the calmer-side of me my surgery isn’t till September 25th, my hubby and I are eating prepared foods that are 500 mg of sodium (give or take) for dinner at night. I eat small portions throughout the day and will be doing my protein shakes starting next week Monday the 2nd, one week extra than required to give my body more time for adjustment. I know after the surgery I will be on liquids for about 3 days, then moving on to pureed providing I can tolerate it. If not then I will go back to liquids. I am 42 years old and have been overweight-obese for a combined 24 years and if I wind up having saggy and baggy skin when I reach my goal, so be it. I don’t care as long as I can live healthier and longer without any physical limitations it will all be worth it in the end.

I'm the 25th of September. Can't wait for it to get here. I have to do my pre- op testing 20 days prior to the 18th to be sure all gets done for the doctor and anesthesia. Good luck to everyone in their journey to life. -
I haven't told but a few people who I know that had already had the surgery. I'm not announcing it on Facebook either. It's none of anyone's business and if they ask if I had surgery I would ask them why do you ask? Did you? It's your own journey to life, hence my screen name. Good luck to everyone in their journey to life.

tomorrow is the big day, getting nervous!
JourneyToLife replied to imsuga's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am feeling the same way. I have heard of people having leaks and other complications and it does make me wonder if I am doing the right thing. But, I think positive all the time and vision myself out of the hospital safely at home and adjusting to my new nutritional lifestyle changes. Concentrating on journaling what I eat and when I exercise. I know if I don't do something now I will continue to pack on the pounds till I can not longer control myself or worse become home-bound. I have to say my hubby is really not to supportive in my decision for this surgery as he is afraid of the worse. Life is about taking chances and you take a chance every time you get behind the wheel of a car. As nervous as I am myself, I will be doing my surgery on the 25th of September. Good Luck to everyone -
