Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
gastricsleever replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Yes I did!!! When I past the first mile I thought "huh? A mile already?" Then I thought I was gonna die during the 2nd mile bc it was all in the sun and when I entered into the 3rd mile and then saw the finish line, I thought "this can't be the finish line...already?" And when I was approaching it and saw the time was 39 minutes I started crying! I honestly did not think I was running that fast, I really thought I was going really slow! I'm now totally psyched for my next 5k which is a mud run! Bummer, I go to Pittsburg often for work but I really wish I had some fellow wls buddies here in Philly to do races with! -

Any February 2014 Sleevers?
gastricsleever replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I totally have a problem with lettuce and tomatoes now! I use to LOVE salads and now I don't enjoy lettuce or tomatoes at all! I thought it was just me. Honestly, i never lost 5lbs a week after surgery. The most I've lost was one week I lost 4, but for the most part I lose 1-3lbs a week and I'm ok with that whether someone says that's slow or not, I don't care cause I'm happy -
Ugh I've been waiting to do the color run, I thought they were going to do it in August! I just booked that weekend to visit my friend in NC otherwise I totally would be in! I'd love to meet up with some local sleevers! I am doing the Susan g komen tomorrow downtown Philly. Also, I am signing up for the Mudarella in August if you or anyone else is up for a challenge!!!

Hola! Orale! Seems Mexico is my option
gastricsleever replied to Travelmego's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've had no problem adjusting to anything. I still can eat anything, just less of it. Obviously I aim for healthy, protein choices but sometimes I don't. Why? Because I'm human but I feel so good, I will never allow myself to go back the way I felt before! Ever! -

I went through a 2 week slump- didn't eat right and didn't exercise...no idea why but I really just had to ride it out. Got back on track and now I'm consistently trying to get my 10,000 steps in, and I am on a 21day no junk food fast -
Hola! Orale! Seems Mexico is my option

I went to Mexico alone in February. Went to the OCC with dr Ortiz. I don't regret my decision at all. I had the best care I've ever received at a hospital while in Mexico. Would do it again in a heart beat. I spoke with Gloria as my coordinator and she was more than helpful. I emailed questions for months before actually booking my appt. then when I was ready to schedule my appt, they offered me a surgery date a week and a half later! Yikes! I wasn't ready for that soon! Lol I would say you'd probably be able go get an appt in June. No supervised weight loss required, just. 3 day to 2 week liquid diet depending on your starting weight. I did research for a year on dr Ortiz and a other dr....ironically, I can't even remember the name of the other dr I was researching. I am not even 3 months out and down a total of 67.4lbs since January and I feel fantastic! -
5/2/14 222.8 Down 2lbs this week! I can't believe how close I am to being under 220! I haven't been under 220 in SO long!

4 weeks out and feeling defeated
gastricsleever replied to gastricsleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We may have different starting weights which could explain it maybe? I'm now down 35lbs since surgery. Slow, but I will take it! Every day is a challenge, focusing on getting my protein, water and I have really kicked up my exercise. -
I had surgery on 2/17/2014. I gained 10lbs or so after surgery from all the water and gas, but lost that and then lost 16lbs since then. So...this past week I have not weighed myself. My scale at home was on the fritz so I tossed it 3 wks ago and decided to only weigh myself once a week at my moms house so I don't become obsessive. I haven't weighed myself since last Monday. I broke down and bought a scale today bc I hate not knowing. I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow and I just weighed myself... I have GaINED a pound!! How??? This week was the best week I've had since surgery as far as getting in all my protein, plus I've been walking 3-4 miles a day! I've not hit 8 cups of water yet but I've gotten in 5-7 a day. I'm trying not to freak out but quite honestly, in feeling very defeated and already that little voice in the back of my head is saying "see, I told u it wouldn't work." It's one thing not to lose and to be in a stall...but how can I gain?! Anyone else experience this? What am I doing wrong?

I'm the same way...have to do a pic to see it! Same for the weight loss too. I was sleeved 2/17 and most times I lose 2lbs, I don't often lose more than that a week but last week I lost 4lbs! -
I am a little over 2 months out from surgery. My incision scars are a dark color....I am wondering if anyone is using or has used a scar cream and had good results? What products are you using?

Thats awesome and i think its a great idea to get a head start. my surgery was 2/17/14 and i started preparing myself in october when i signed my paperwork and got my surgery date. i started making small changes like substituting 1 meal for a protein shake. i bought all kinds of protein shakes to find ones that i really liked. i stopped drinking soda and alcohol...i believe thats what led my post-op diet to not be as challenging. i didnt think the pre-op was too bad either. i dont lose as much as other people, but i am happy with my weight loss. i feel great and have no complaints about my decision, it was the best decision i ever made! -

Lost almost 3lbs! 4/21 227.6 4/28 224.8 I'm a happy camper! I am officially what I weighed 10 years ago when I finished my sophomore year of college. I weighed 194 going into my freshman year, weighed 210 finishing freshman year, and weighed 225 finishing sophomore year. I still can't believe it, it feels unreal.

help I'm up 13 pounds
gastricsleever replied to timeforme333's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm still in my first year, but if I were u, I would go back to basics. Go back to a protein shake/liquid Diet for a week or 2. Maybe go back to your nutritionist? -
Finding out you don't qualify
gastricsleever replied to tfarr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the same situation as kindle- wls was excluded from my policy, no matter what conditions I have, surgery won't be covered. I also made the decision to go to Mexico in February. Best decision I ever made- I did my research and was confident in the dr I picked. There are risks with any surgery no matter where you go but I have to say, I had such a good hospital/dr experience. I went to Mexico alone for the surgery, only told ppl on here and 2 friends. I was treated SO well, it was almost like I was in a hotel. I'm already considering going back to Mexico for plastic surgery on my arms or thighs. -
January 2014 Sleevers Come In!
gastricsleever replied to HipsAndLipstick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went to Mexico for my surgery- I did my research, my dr was fantastic and I had one of the best hospital experiences of my life. I go back to my local hospital for follow up and they have no problem doing follow up, knowing my surgery was in Mexico. We aren't all lucky to have insurance that covers WLS. I couldn't afford $18,000 in cash at my local hospital. -
Same for me- most of my followers are fellow WLS ppl, but I have some friends and family on there that don't know I've had surgery.
