Follow-Up Care after surgery in Mexico
gastricsleever posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
When you went to Mexico for surgery, how did you organize your follow up care? I have an appointment scheduled with my PCP before I go to mexico to inform him of what I'm doing. As far as the follow up care, my local hospital has a bariatric program. Do I just get in contact with them after my surgery and tell them I would like to do my follow-up care there, such as the nutritionist appts, any testing, etc? What did you guys do? Thanks in advance! -

How to make Isopure taste good ?
gastricsleever replied to boopgirl's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've heard such good reviews about the isopure ready-to-drink bottles, I went and ordered some...I do hope they r good cause wow, they were pricey! Lol -
I'd love to hear some updates of how people who were 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. years out on their surgery. How are you doing and how has it been in the maintenance phase? Do u find it challenging at all? Have you gained any weight back? Do you find it harder to eat small portions still? I'm a pre-op and would love some feedback!

gastricsleever replied to gastricsleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all your responses. I realize most of the vets 3 yrs + probably don't follow the app anymore. I just started thinkin and getting nervous about a few years out and If it will be harder then in maintenance than it will be during the first year of losing. -

Hey guys- I'm getting confused with the pre-op diet stuff- liquid diet includes protein drinks right? And that's what u r supposed to the 2 wks before surgery right? When r u supposed to do a clear Liquid diet? That's only things like broth and jello right? -

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC
gastricsleever replied to Kindle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Ok...I paid my deposit, and now I've booked my flight. I will be traveling alone to the OCC for my surgery. I'm going to stay an extra day at the Marriott to give my self the time to heal more. then my friend is flying out and we will stay in San Diego for a few days before flying home to Philly. She wasn't able to come the whole time, so I figured I'd rather have someone fly home with me. Now I'm freaking out a bit thinking about it all and wondering if I'm crazy flying down to mexico alone to have bariatric surgery, If my surgery is 2 months from now and I'm getting nervous, I can only imagine what my thoughts will be in the coming days! Can't wait to hear more success stories from you guys to keep me calm Remind me again - i may have asked this, but I can't remember. If any of you traveled alone, when you were in the hospital that night, who watched your purse/luggage? was it locked up somewhere while you were in surgery and recovery? I apologize for the silly questions when I am still over 2 months from being sleeved...just nervous! -
I'm wondering that too. I hope my body will cooperate with me and not be in too much pain to drive. My surgery is on a Monday and I was hoping to feel good enough by Sunday to make The drive from San Diego to LA. (Surgery in Mexico and I just wanted to go on a tour bus around LA since I've never been there before).

I'm pre-op but I have read so much about keeping skin moisturized especially after weight loss to keep the elasticity in your skin and help with the skin tightening. Do you have any good moisturizers you recommend?

Keeping Skin Moisturized?
gastricsleever replied to gastricsleever's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I started using coconut oil- I sit the jar in a bowl of warm water while I'm in the shower and when I come out of the shower, the coconut oil is liquid form and I just pour on my hand and rub it on my skin and there's no lumps. But that only works for before I go to bed- I'd love to make the moisturizer the oil. So u just buy essential oils and mix it with coconut oil??! -
Which Blender Do You Have?
gastricsleever replied to gastricsleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just made a delish shake- vanilla protein powder, homemade applesauce with no sugar, and some cinnamon- yummmmmm! Tastes like apple pie and ice cream -
I'm sure there is a post here somewhere about this, but I've searched for a while and can't find one. I have several questions regarding Protein shakes and blenders. 1.) Do you have a special blender like the Ninja or Vitamix, or do you just use a plain ol' blender? Which one would you recommend? I can't afford ones like the vitamix, but I could spend about $100, if it makes a difference in the shakes. 2.) I actually enjoy having a shake or something liquid for Breakfast (I'm still pre-op) because I'm always on the go, and making a smoothie just works for me. AFter the surgery and once you are healed and eating normal foods, does anyone else still keep a Protein Shake in their diet or do you prefer eating regular foods instead? Does that make sense? lol 3.) Do you find it hard for you to get in your protein without the shakes and powders once you are eating normally?

Would love to find a buddy goin there around the same time. Also, can anyone share their experience of traveling alone? -
