Is there no one over 70 who has been sleeved?!
npwomen replied to Hevnbound's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please don't be discouraged. I got my sleeve at 73 and lost all my excess weight in the first two years. If your health in general is good and you can commit to a few eating and lifestyle changes you will do great. Best wishes. -
What do you mean by "insanity" in this context?

Dr Ortiz is a wonderful doctor with a great team. They will take excellent care of you from the time you get off the plane until the time you board your flight back to NZ. My daughter-in-law and I had surgery with him almost 4 years ago. I am a nurse practitioner and my D in L is a doctor of pharmacy, so as you might imagine we searched and researched far and wide before we chose our physician and feel we made the absolute right decision. We are both maintaining goal weight for over two years now. Life is good. We want to remind you to wear the loosest and softest clothes possible for your return trip so you will be comfortable on the long flight.

Best wishes to you. The huge pre-op effort will be so worth it. You're on your way to the life you want.

I do all of these things too and have often wondered why. Perhaps I just enjoy being small now.

Today is the day and....I'm hungry

I'm holding you in my prayers. This is a great day. -
The most amazing thing happened: my hair grew back fuller than it was before surgery and went from being very straight to nice soft curls. This has certainly made up for having lost so much hair my pink scalp was visable from 20 paces away. Your hair will grow back. Try to think of it as just part of the process.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It seems terribly unfair. I've never been given news like this but know your head must be swirling from having been tossed this challenge. I am holding you in my heart and praying for you.

Surgery Tomorrow... Anyone else going in soon?
npwomen replied to TheNewJulie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations on on making your plan for a healthier life. The first thought that came to my mind was OH MY, what a commute to work you have! Whether you use public trans or drive I promise you a much easier commute with some of the lbs gone. Come back in a few days and let us know how you are doing. -

You have to tell us where you are going in Mexico. Mexico is BIG. Hope you find a travel partner and good luck with the surgery. -
You are probably asleep by now and won't read this until much after your surgery. Just want you to know I'm holding warm thought in my heart for my new sleeve sister. You have an amazing new life ahead of you. Rest well, follow your docs plan for you one day at a time, and the excess weight will start melting away.

Seventy & having sleeve surgery
npwomen replied to maxcimax's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 73 and had a band/sleeve conversion last May. (I want to say it was a piece of cake but that's a bad metaphor.) Everything went smoothly and with minimal discomfort. Mine was done in Mexico. I have lost the excess weight, wear size 8's and 10's and feel wonderful. I am still a compulsive eater because that's a head thing and you can't cure a head thing by cutting on the stomach. It is easier to deal with my urges to overeat now because eating too much hurts a lot, and consuming too many carbohydrates make me feel very sick. Besides, I kind of like not being fat so I tend to not want to screw that up. If your doctor feels you are a candidate for sleeve surgery and you want to change your life for the better GO FOR IT! Remember the first few months after surgery it is critical that you stay with the eating program that your doctor recommend so you heal properly and with out any negative incidents. Good luck and keep in touch. Remember 70 is the new 60 : ) Lucille -
I'm holding thoughts of you in my heart. You will do fine. Recovery is easy for most people so not worth fretting about.

Malsr, just the fact that you have shared these concerns with us will give you a level of commitment and strength you didn't know you had. The mighty pen (keyboard) has power over the psyche.

Hey Stephen congrats to you.

npwomen replied to Hevnbound's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, yes go for it. I'm 73 and had surgery May 2013. There are only a few of us out here possibly because docs seem to have an aversion to operating on people over 65. Since I've lost weight I can truly say that 73 is the new 63. Good luck. You will be fine. Please keep in touch. -
Surgery in May hair loss started in September. I'm still shedding like a Cocker Spanial today. It's very disheartening.

Tell her you are on a diet and like it or not this meal needs to be fish and spinach according to the diet plan. Ask your BF to gulp your wine when Mom momentarily looks away. -
Gals, my NSV today was canceling my pedi appointment and doing my toenails myself. I'm three months out and only 36lbs down but I can already bend over and do my own toes. It was a very satisfying non scale victory (nsv).

76 POUNDS GONE! 45 MORE TO GO!

You are beautiful! -
I'm a nurse practitioner living in Houston. Had band to sleeve conversion almost three months ago and the next day my daughter got her sleeve. We both used Dr. Ortiz with Obesity Control Center in Tijuana, Mexico. Both our experience there and recovery at home went as smooth as glass. I am finally experiencing a new more healthy relationship with food.

If you were not sleeved in Mexico and sent home did you get a refund?
npwomen replied to PrincessSleeve's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Princess, I accompanied a friend who was having surgery at Mx Bariatric Ctr about three weeks ago. There was confusion that resulted in an overcharge to the patient. When it was discovered, instead of a refund she got got a major run around and is still waiting for a refund.....waiting......waiting.... This was my fourth experience related to having surgery in TJ. I am LEAST impressed with Mexico Bariatric Center. -
Let's start one. I'd love to have a support group. I'm in The Woodlands, PM me. Lucille
