    ONLY 11bs so far?

I am a slow looser too. My first 2 weeks I lost 19 lb and since then I have been eeking out the lbs. I am a few days from being 3 months out and have lost as of this morning 40 lb. I am 5' 8" and at surg. was 258. I would have never been able to do that before surgery, but it stings because I am self pay, and I just expected so much more. I walk/run at gym 2 mi every other day and have been working with weights with my trainer. l lost 5 of those lb last week, and there has been many weeks where nothing has come off. Keeping cals below 750, but lost those 5lb when I increased my cals to 1000. I guess my point is if your really doing all you say you are above there is no figuring it out. You just have to keep on keeping on and trust it will come off. I'm done trying to figure it out. I know if I keep it up even if it slow coming off, Ive never felt better about taking better care of myself, my skin looks better than it ever has, and I am happier than I have been in a long time. Surely your Dr checked your thyroid?

    Excercise help your plauteaus?

I feel the same way. I hit a plateau at about 3/4 weeks out and since then I have only lost 13lb since and am in week 13. 1 lb a week makes you want to scream! The thing is I'm keeping my calories low, protien high, and working out.

Three Years Later - What I've Learned

I want to know how you stay on all liquids if you gain more than 10 lb back. What do you drink? Where do you get the willpower?

Adding more calories, losing more weight

If its not broke don't fix it. If your still loosing, I would keep up with what your doing. It was getting to where I was happy if I lost a lb that week. Many weeks Ive lost nothing. My trainer advised me that in a month I might have to decrease again to 600-700 cals. a day to shock it back from another stall. Its really about what is best for you.
  5. I wouldn't have believed it either. The decision to add more calories was a big one for me. After having little control over calories for so long, and now reveling in taking care of myself it was a big deal adding them in (really I was afraid to loose control again). Previously I kept them about 600-700. The scale was hardly moving for the past 2 months. I have read on here, and my trainer told me the body will not let it go (not easily anyway) if it thinks your not going to feed it. So I moved my cals up to 900-1000 per day. I said to myself just for this week to see what happens. 5lb in a week! That hasnt happened for me since week 2. I'm upping mostly with some extra fruit (has helped energy), sometimes peanut butter, and sometimes the occasional small treat! Yay me!

Three Years Later - What I've Learned

Ill have to remember this. I think the important thing is to remember is the work never ends, and establishing good habits early on (first 6 months) is essential in long term outcome. None of us will ever be one of those skinny people who dont even have to think about it.

Three Years Later - What I've Learned

I think alot of us share the fear of going back to the way things were. Your post really shows how easy it can be. The surgery is really a kick start and does make the initial loss easier. I hope I can keep it up for the rest of my life!

    6 weeks/ 8 weeks lost 30 lbs

Great attitude. It seems the more our BMI drops the slower the weight comes off.

    Endosocpy help!

Im an Endoscopy RN. Most scopes are done with Propofol now. It is considered a sedative and not general anesthesia, but there is no doubt youll be asleep and unaware of anything. The anesthesis will push it in your IV, then count back from 5 by the time she get to 3 youll be OUT, well your's may not count down but youll be out in 2 seconds. Most EGD's take less than 5 minutes, and the great thing about propofol is that when you wake from it you really wake right up. Theres not much of a groggy period after awakening. Some endoscopy centers still use Versed/Demerol combo for sedation and if that is the case you will be a little loopy all day, not to worry though most don't use this combo. By the way if you are offered Versed to calm you down previous to your scope you will fill flighty for the day, I refused and so did my husband because the Propofol alone is effective in putting you to sleep.

    Feel crummy in the AM

I get very nauseated in the morning when I try to drink water. I start the day with some decaff and then a protien shake before I can start on the water. I tried to drink water first this morning because I woke up sooo thirsty, and I ended up dry heaving. Sometimes I feel like Im pregnant again.

    stalls?

I think most of us have alot to work through. I was sleeved 4/29 and have lost 38. I would be thrilled with 45 if I were you!!! It is hard to believe with keeping our calories so low, it would still come off so slowly. All I know is my life has changed for the better since being sleeved in sooo many ways. Im not obsessed with food anymore, AMEN!

    I give up!

I get discouraged alot too. Im 10 weeks out an have lost 38 lbs. I really thought it would be a little faster, Im following the rules about 90 percent of the time. Im alot better off than before before though.
  14. Just wondering how everyone felt about coffee and its influence on weight loss. Seems like I have been such a slow looser since I started drinking it again. I have it with a little skim milk so it doesn't have alot of calories. I've heard it really increases cortisol production. Your body is already in starvation mode from the surgery and the cortisol increase from coffee makes your body try to hang on to energy (fat) even more. Any thoughts?

Feeling not so awesome, 4 weeks post-op!

I noticed I get dizzy on days when my calories are low. When I moved them up to 650 a day I stopped doing that. How much water are you getting?

    Extreme Nausea

Since the start I have gotten nauseated by cold liquids. The cold protien shakes don't bother me though. I leave my bottled water out on the counter to get room temperature. I do agree with taking the Prilosec it really does help.

    Does coffee effect weight loss?

Really? Well Im on day 2 with none. We will see.

    Stalling?

Same thing happened to me. The scale started moving again I felt less hungry when I made sure I got in 3 protien shakes with almond milk a day. Thats 66g protien right there. I do think it lets your body know it will be fed and satiates you.

    6 weeks/ 8 weeks lost 30 lbs

I love you guys because now I dont feel so alone. Sleeved April 29th and have lost 36 lbs since surgery. Keep my calories under 800 day, getting in all protien and Water. I go to the gym 2 miles/5 days a week and have recently added weight training and hired a trainer. Sometimes I want to scream after hearing friends tales of fast losses, when sticking to "the rules" I have weeks I loose nothing. I just dont get it. But it is what it is and Im not a quitter, so Im staying the course and it will all have to come off eventually. I think God is really testing my patience.

    Does coffee effect weight loss?

Thanks, I have thought of switching to decaff. At least then I could count it as fluids. Maybe Ill try it for a week and see how I do.

    4 1/2 months post op

Ive read on alot of websites that the stomach can stretch some after surgery. If you binge and get too full, make the next meal a protien shake and it will actually shrink back down. Its when you overeat meal after meal after meal it will stay stretched out.
  23. THis surgery will be one of the best things you will ever do for yourself. I agree you wont be able to binge anymore. Something about this surgery just takes so much of that desire/obsession/compulsion for food away. I really think it has to be the lack of the ghrelin hormone. I tried to eat 3 oreos the other night (PMS) and one bite into the third one I thought I was going to puke so I just sat down and let it pass. The thought of oreos are a definate turn off now. There are still some "trigger foods" I cant keep at the house, but even if they were in the kitchen my stomach couldn't handle a binge.

    Sam's Club Hauls?

I really like that price yall are quoting for the Premier protien shakes at Sams. I bought some Syntax cookies and cream but did not like it. I love all of the Unjury shakes but they are so expensive. How does Premier compare to these brands in yall's opinion. I wonder if could find some samples somewhere.

    Getting Tempted

Ive started getting tempted by some foods I prepare for my family. Since surgery you couldnt pay me to eat something off the plan. The past few days Ive been sneaking a chip here a bite of a chocolate covered granola bar there. I even ate a half of a burger at a BBQ today. Hope I can get back on track tomorrow. I really think I'm still insecure from all of the diets I have failed at in the past. For some reason I cant get it through my head this is not a diet. Don't get me wrong Im working out 6 days a week, going to the gym, keeping calories between 700-800 and getting all protien and water in most days. Its just everynow and then I have a day where I could go CRAZY! I'm scared Ill fall off the wagon and stay off.
