Is it normal for weight loss to slow after several months?
christieouchley replied to Shoota's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think youv'e done really well. I am 16 weeks out and have lost 50lb I am a 4X week/hour per day exerciser working with weights also, keeping calories between 850-1000. I think my body is doing what it wants at this point. I am trying to change up my workouts, and my diet some. My trainer suggested that when you workout the same way all the time and eat the same things all the time its easy for your body to slow down a little. I started taking some of the cardio kickboxing classes and walking outside on my hilly 3 mile road instead of the treadmill this week, so we will see if the loss picks up again. I am like you and only have been loosing about 1lb per week for the past 5 weeks. FRUSTRATING, when you are putting so much work in. I went shopping yesterday with my daughters and was very disapointed not to have went down another size. I guess thats why we chose the sleeve though, it will help keep us in line through this frustration, not throw our hands in the air and say forget it like I used to. -

My husband is in week 2, and refuses to drink anymore of it. He says he feels nauseated so I switched him to Unjury. He likes it much better. -
Where is My March Sleevers
christieouchley replied to Laurabrown929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved April 29th and am down 49. I am counting every gram of protien and calories that go into my mouth, keeping cals below 1000 and working out over and hour 3 times a week. I guess I could exercise some more but I'm trying not to loose in ways I won't keep up with later. I get discouraged too, other than completely starve my body, this is all I can do. What a lesson in patience. -
I love the Layne Bryant Bras. They give great lift, many help with the back fat situation too.
-
I do this too but only eat about 2/3 of the fillet to minimize the calories.

I hear ya, I get a little discouraged too. Then I remind myself just how far I've come, and how much happier I am since surgery. Partly because I've lost weight and feel better, but mostly because my habits including eating and exercise habits have changed for the better. I follow a 80/20 rule. I eat wonderfully, healthfully 80% of the time but once I know my protien will be met for the day and an extra treat for the day wont send me over the 1000 calorie mark I have set for myself, I induldge. It keeps me from feeling deprived, and is a way I can learn to live with. I may not get there as fast as someone who eats 600 calories a day, but with a little help from my sleeve I know I will get there and stay there because of my new way of living. -
Post op 6 months
christieouchley replied to sylva_775's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your BMI is really a 27, you are definately at the point where your gonna have to work for it!!!!!! That is a dream BMI for most of us. I can understand your want to loose just a bit more though. I agree going back to basics, shakes and lean protien and increase workout schedule and intensity should help you. Everytime I start stalling even just a bit I do this and the scales start moving again. -

Is 2 weeks reasonable?
christieouchley replied to Teachamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband also had to delay his sleeve due to undiagnosed a-fib. He is well entrenched now, and rate is controlled so they went ahead and sleeved him on Friday. He did great. He's cardioverted once but it didn't stick. Hopefully after he looses weight and his heart does not have to work so hard the conversions will stick longer. -
7th month reflections, tips, general thoughts
christieouchley replied to NurseGrace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Great job! I also am a little slower of a looser and was upset about it for a little while. I am starting to think though it is a good thing. My mind is adjusting as well as my body. I wont have as much saggy skin because I lost slower and worked with weights the entire time I was loosing. Im like you, I probably could have lost at this rate without surgery, but for 15 years tried and only this has truly worked for me. I am in so much better control over myself. For the first time ever I am not afraid I will just gain it back. Ive established great habits! -
Just stick with it, and youll learn to love it. I could not stand exercising before and now after 2 months of exercising regularly I am starting to feel like somethings missing if I dont do it. Buliding muscle and continuing to exercise will be key to maintaining your weight once you reach your goal. I got a trainer twice a week to encourage and be accountable. There have been plenty of days that if she wasn't going to be there waiting for me I wouldn't have gone. Now I go 5 days a week and still only meet her 2 because I see the benefits now, and it feels good.

5 Month Update
christieouchley replied to skinnyginny's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Your rate of loss is fantastic. We are about the same height and BMI starting out so I was wondering what your average daily diet looks like. -
You just might be! When I first started lunges, my trainer actually laughed at me (arent I paying her to be supportive?). Anyway a couple of months later and I dont feel like a fumbling idiot anymore. Perfect practice makes perfect!!!!

Scale is my enemy
christieouchley replied to puchy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great. Try to live in the joy of this. Tell someone to hide the scale and tell them not to tell you where it is no matter what. I think the reason we do this is because we have went to such drastic measures and want to see results immediately. Be patient, trust the sleeve to do its job, eat what your supposed to, take the scale out every two weeks and rejoice in the #s. -
Scale is my enemy
christieouchley replied to puchy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I hadn't been obsessed with the scale early on. What it really does is make this process negative, when its actually spectacular. When you weigh yourself every day and sometimes you will loose a lb here and a lb there, but you dont really ever see big number drops like you did early on so you think your stalling or not loosing quick enough. I track weight and calories on MFP and when back a couple of weeks ago and looked at how much weight I had lost in month 1, 2, and 3. I lost 18 lb the first month, 16 lb the second month, and 12 lb the third month for a total of 46 lb. All that time I complained and complained about my "stall". I was never stalling it was just the scale only shows fractions of lb lost every day or every few days and it ends up feeling like your not loosing much. Nearly 50lb in 3 months is not stalling. All I did by weighing all the time is take the joy and accomplishment out of loosing, and turned into yet another negative obsession like I used to do with food. -
Food obsession ?
christieouchley replied to Ginagirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me a 2 months to really come to terms with not eating much anymore. I spent my first month post op sneaking crackers, drinking juice ect. Now I am so glad I dont have that need/urges anymore. I think it took my mind a good couple of months to catch up with the surgery and really be OK with it. -
Need advice for sugar addiction
christieouchley replied to acampbell1318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree by the time you drink so many sweet shakes previous to surgery, that sweets are less appealing. Since surgery I hardly ever crave sweets, or anything starchy. I am so grateful. -
I also am a slower looser. I know that I am also doing what I'm supposed to be and have lost 45 lb since April 29th. I had a 5 week stall and then the scale started moving again. My Dr was also doubtful I have been following the NUT's diet, but I really had. For the first time in my life I am not crazy about food, and have great control keeping calories below 800-900 day. My guess is your body w ill catch up and youll probably loose in spurts, your body will catch up, and then loose somemore...

I need Advice!
christieouchley replied to wannabaloser's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I say do it! Thats when my struggles really started, my first diet was at to loose lb. I never stopped loosing/gaining since. This surgery has been the only thing that has truly made a difference in me. Since your getting it done too you could really establishe a new healthy lifestyle for you both. Shes so young she could really relearn how to cope in other ways not with food. What a great support system for each other. What a bond you two will have, eating healthier, and exercising together. -
Track calories or just let restriction do it's job?
christieouchley posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 2 friends who have been sleeved in the past 7 months. I was sleeved on April 29th and have lost 40 lb. One of my friends tracks calories, gets in all her protien and has lost 116 in 7 months. Her surgery weight was 398. My other friend doesn't worry about anything she just lets the restriciton do its job and never overstuffs herself. Im not sure of her surgery weight but her BMI was about the sams as mine on surger day (39), she has lost 78 lb since March 14. At a crossroads on what to do for myself because of my 40lb almost half have been lost the first 2 1/2 weeks, the rest Im eeking out at about 1lb a week? -
I am really struggling with how and what to eat. Im working out 5X week 2 mi, and with a trainer. Whats in question is diet. Im on a regular diet now bun unsure about calorie intake. I will be 3 months out on the 29th and have lost 40 lb. I really was expecting more, especially since half was in the first few weeks. When I was taking in 600-700 cals I would loose maybe a lb a week. I increased to 1000 lost 5 lb in a week. Ive kept it at 1000 for almost 2 weeks now and nothing. Whats worse is when I increased to 1000 I lost control a little and made it to 1000 with a slice of pizza or 1/3 of a lean hamburger. So I'm actually eating less times in a day but worse foods. Any thoughts? I am pretty tired of trying to figure this out!

I'm really excited for you and your husband to be doing this together. What a wonderful support for one another! I was sleeved April 29th and my husband is going to be sleeved Aug. 9th. It would have been so much better to do it together. He still tries to get me to go out to eat with him all the time, and its really hard. As a matter of fact the only time I have overeaten with the sleeve is at a restaurants. When he is sleeved he will see what a waste of time restaurants are!
