I am a food addict and compulsive eater. I have a lapband, but am considering revision.....what I really need is my brain to be banded, cause my head will do anything to get around following the rules etc.... So I can eat. So, how will it be different with the sleeve, or will it????

For those of you whose doctor did two procedures - remove the band, wait for healing, and then sleeve, how was the recovery from the band removal, and how long did you have to wait to heal before you were sleeved?

So I know that at least two of the band rules apply to the sleeve - don't drink carbonated bev. And don't drink while eating. I have had a horrible time following the latter with my band. I am just wondering if any of you had similar difficulties following these rules when you were banded, and how you manage to follow them now that you are sleeved, or do you????

Never heard of him.... I am seeing dr. Macik next week to discuss the removal of my band and getting sleeved. I will have to wait at least 6 weeks between surgeries, so hoping for early July removal and mid August sleeve....was going to consult with Emory j.c., but they won't make me an appt until they receive my operative notes from the lapband done at Emory midtown....

So I am just curious.....I lost 60 lb with my band, and after infertility treatments and having 2 kids I am literally right back where I started in may of 2009 - down to the same measurements even! So, if I was unable/unwilling to make a lifestyle change with the band, what is it that will hit me like a bolt of lightening with the sleeve? I am self pay, and can't spend 20k for another failure!! Help!!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I know a total lifestyle change is in order - I want to do it, but I use food so much to cope with life... I have been in therapy forever (not just weight issues). I have huge motivation with being an older ( 42) mom to a 4 year old and 11 month old - I want to be around to see them grow up! I am just scared....have tried going to oa, but it is hard to make meetings with having little ones. I have to do this! Every morning I wake up and vow to follow the band rules and eat healthier, but I find myself unable to stop drinking with meals, unable to stop eating sweets (goes down so easy).....I think, that with the sleeve, and being able to eat healthy foods - like chicken and shrimp and carrots and apples (and all the things I can't eat now because they get stuck), I have a better chance at success. Maybe??

I still have my band, and am trying to understand what full will feel like with the sleeve.....tonight I ate so much that my "lower" stomach got full - like sick full how you feel on thanksgiving prior to wls! Is this the kind of full you feel with the sleeve? If so, I am "golden" for the sleeve because I hate feeling this way!!!

Ok, so I know the whole "don't drink anything for at least 30 min. After eating" is applicable to lapband folks, but why is it a rule for sleevers? I mean, your not washing the food down any faster into the intestine are you?????

Looking for statistics comparing weight loss from band vs. sleeve 3-5 years post op.........trying to convince my hubby that maybe I will be more likely to be successful with the sleeve....

Hey there! I am currently a lap band patient of dr. Macik, but he did not do my band initially. I am not crazy about him, so I am looking into Emory at johns creek. Our stats are pretty close....I am so ready to lose this weight once and for all! Hoping I can get my husband on board with my decision ( it will be self pay) Have you moved forward with dr. Macik? Anyone convert from a lapband to a sleeve? I am in stone mountain and wanting to get in to see dr. Hart. How long does it take to get scheduled?

I currently see dr. Macik, and I know he does the revision surgery, but he kinda creeps me out, and am wondering if there is someone great in Atlanta That I should consult with. I am self pay....

Zempress Can you give me an example of a typical meal/day of eating? I am having a hard time wrapping my head around how much I will be able to eat...having a hard time convincing my husband that we can still go to dinner and I will not be full on one shrimp - or will I?

Jacinda, I too have the same questions you have! I know I am a food addict and compulsive eater. I know how to "cheat" with my band (drink with meals) actually puke so I can eat more etc....so how will it be different with vertical sleeve? Can't you stretch out your stomach? I think my 60 lb weight loss with my band occurred because I was too afraid to go against the rules initially......but after 8 years, infertility treatments, and two babies, I feel pretty okay with the fact that I won't have a slip, so I cheat. Hence I weigh exactly what I did pre-band! I am so over being fat, but I use food as if it were a drug.....
