On The Verge Of Mental Collapse
slvrsax replied to MouseOnTheMile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Mouse, Nope, I'm not using MFP yet but thanks for reminding me, been meaning to set up a profile. It is on my list of things to do. I've used Fitday off and on this year. When I sign up I'll add you! I'll be exactly where you are in a month. -

Mouse, we have the same surgeon. I totally get what you're saying about the weight loss itself being used to measure liver shrinking success - our surgeon does have this requirement. I'm worried about the same thing! I'm about a month from pre-op and trying NOW to drop a few by eating better, drinking lots of water and working out 3 days a week and am having no luck whatsoever. -

CW 282,43 years old. 5'8. I'm worried about my starting weight and worried about meeting that required initial loss. I was 280 when I did my paperwork in August, now I'm 282. Eating hasn't changed but weight has. I am doing Zumba 3 times a week and eating decently, not dieting but not eating junk either. I have a month before I start my pre op. Doesn't seem to matter what I eat my weight doesn't move. -
LOL, hip bones and knees!

I broke my tailbone in 2006, fell while I was rollerskating. It gives me pain now when I sit too long, wonder if that will get worse once I lose weight? I also have bursitis in my hip as a result of that fall, wonder if it will improve? -

12/16 for me too! It will come quick! -
The good news is I've FINALLY found exercise that I don't dread doing! I bought a 10 session package on Amazon local for 10 Zumba sessions. No one is more surprised than me to find out I really like it! I know going in that exercise is going to be the hardest part for me so I'm trying to find something I don't hate. My question is this. When I finish this class pre-surgery I am totally spent, I've burned through everything I have. Will I be able to exercise at this level with such a reduced level of caloric intake? What are some strategies post-op folks employ to get through a challenging workout? Do you eat right before you exercise? This is something I can't quite wrap my mind around. Thoughts? Thanks!

I'm in Everett too, surgery scheduled at OCC with Dr. Ortiz for December 16.

OK, that is about what I pictured for the vitamin as far as the size goes. I have a few left in my bottle of one a day's, I added to my work calendar to make a decision about ordering by next month. Very helpful information! I've been doing a protein shake in the mornings a few days a week. I bought some Quest bars, those aren't bad! I am thinking of doing high protein/low carb food plan for half of November before I start my pre-op diet. Thanks for the helpful information Back2Barb and Raven, it really gives me a good idea of what to expect! -

Back2Barb, your posts are so helpful!! I have a couple of questions. One is about the vitamins. Do you think the Enspira vitamins are better than doubling up on my regular vitamins? I compared labels on both but I have a hard time swallowing big pills, are they really big? Right now I take the One a Day petites. Love it because they are small! The other is about the pre and post op diet. I am really nervous about 5 solid weeks of liquids. I'm worried I won't have the energy to get through my day to day activities. How has your energy level been? My job isn't very physical but still worried about this. I'm taking off a solid week and working half days for week two. I figure I can count on hunger during the pre-op diet and my poor family will just have to deal with my crankiness, but how your hunger been post op? I hate being hungry! Can ya tell? Sherri -

I'm taking a multi and Vitamin D - 10,000 units because my bloodwork ALWAYS comes back very low on D. I live in Seattle so I can't expect much else! If the deficiency is still a problem post surgery I'll ask my doc for a standing prescription for the once a week dose. I've also cut back coffee to weekends only, cut out soda which wasn't difficult since I don't drink much anyway. Same with alcohol, I play on being alcohol free for a year after surgery. I'm drinking more water, which is why I stopped drinking coffee. I found I was drinking a few cups of coffee before work then NO water the rest of the day. I've also upped my skin care routine. I'm not a very vain person but I've heard that rapid weight loss can cause a little wrinkli-ness in the face. I have good skin - trying to keep it that way! -
How many months, weeks, days left Til your VSG surgery?

Awesome elhudge! Who's your surgeon? Are you as excited as I am? The time can't pass quickly enough. I'm trying to take advantage of this time by cutting my carbs and intake in general, not drinking with meals, etc. -

Feeling emotional. How will this be different? More pre-opper musings
slvrsax replied to McButterpants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can so identify with how you're feeling! I am a little less than 2 months pre-op and will be starting the pre-op diet in six weeks. I'm not so worried about complications (for now), but I do have this nagging doubt of what if this just doesn't work for me? What if this is just another thing to add to the long list of failed diets? I am just going to step out on faith and hope for the best. I'd rather live with a little fear of the unknown than live with the most certain idea that without this surgery I will be diabetic within a year or two. Hang in there! You will do great! -
I have a Vitamix and love it! I'm sure it will come in handy post op but honestly, if I know myself I'll probably drink mostly rtd shakes. I also grate carrots, cheese (more cheese crumbles than shreds), chop onions with mine. Truly worth the money. I'd like to make soup with it after surgery.

December 2013 Sleevers Come In!
slvrsax replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! I'm scheduled for December 16 in Tijuana, MX. My insurance has a specific exclusion for WLS so I am self pay. I'm not scheduled to start pre-op until December 1 but am considering Atkins during the last week in November. I have to say I'm a little nervous about the pre-op. I know I can do it. Good luck to everyone! -

Happened to me once with a sugar free red bull. I was pretty mortified, my fiance witnessed the whole thing. He still married me, must be true love! -

who is a great doctor in Mexico
slvrsax replied to Malaika13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I, too am scheduled with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at OCC. Working with Carolyn has been simple and straightforward, she has been extremely timely in answering e-mails, relaying questions to the doctors, etc. I've submitted medical history, submitted FMLA paperwork filled out by OCC to my HR dept., asked many questions, paid my deposit and purchased airline tickets. Do as much research as you can and the surgeon that makes the most sense for your situation will come to light, there are good options. Good luck! -
Shot down by insurance, guess that's that
slvrsax replied to Healthygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also going to MX. If someone had told me a year ago that not only would I go to Mexico for surgery but that I'd be comfortable with it, I'd of said they were nuts I've done months of research - enough to be comfortable and even excited about my decision. A 401K loan is another option for securing cash, either loan or outright distribution, if no one has mentioned it. I know of at least 2 surgeons in MX who allow you to use health savings accounts. Hang in there and don't give up, there are other options worth exploring -

Ringo4 I can relate. I'm not eating that bad really, but I know I need to talk myself into more frequent exercise BEFORE surgery. I suspect this is the piece I'll struggle with. I just can't seem to get there. As far as diet goes, I'm trying to eat more mindfully by cutting carb intake, but not necessarily "dieting". Most days are pretty good. I cut down on sweets months ago (pre-diabetic) and started taking multi vitamins faithfully, and not drinking with meals. When my husband and I go out for dinner I find myself thinking, how will this work post-surgery? We've had a few discussions about it. Best of luck to you as you near surgery!
