  1. I think chicken is a hard one, as is steak. I'm 4 weeks out and still can't do chicken. I'm thinking I will be able to eventually. Meatballs I can do if I cut them up really well and moisten with some tomato sauce.
  2. I went through OCC. Keep in mind that there is only one driver (I believe) and perhaps everyone's flights didn't quite line up so that he could go there and back several times throughout the day in a timely fashion. The border can be a bit unpredictable. I'm sure he is doing his best, I found Joel to be quite helpful. He got us through massive lines going back to San Diego very quickly! Good luck to you! OCC is fantastic!
  3. Is a 401K loan possible?

    The best cottage cheese?

I like cottage cheese with salsa, I will do that when my acid reflux is better controlled.

    Damage to Sleeve

I am still trying to figure out my full signal. I have noticed that after a few bites suddenly the food on my plate looks unappealing and not appetizing at all. When I start to push it around with my fork I throw it away.
  6. Totally off subject, but has anyone heard from IndigoChild? She was having some trouble back in mid December and I haven't seen her post since. Worried about her!

    Mirena slows weight loss?

My nutritionist and my OB both say that although Mirena doesn't cause weight gain, patients do complain about not being able to lose. My OB said roughly 60 percent of her Mirena patients complain about trouble losing weight. I have one but am having it removed soon.
  8. I went to Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center. I spent 6 months convinced I was going to use Fernando Garcia. My nutritionist here in Seattle strongly suggested using Ariel Ortiz and even though he was more expensive, his track record is very good. I was persuaded and I had an awesome experience. I'm glad I changed my mind! Read as much as you can and eventually one will just "pop" as the right fit for you. Trust your intuition

    Horrible nausea

I was sleeved 12/16 and have been experiencing nausea for 2 days. I've been focusing less on food and more on liquids because I think my hydration is part of the problem. I picked up some fruit flavor Isopure and that has helped some. I hope it passes for all of us.
  10. Hopefulinthemidwest, thanks for the encouragement, I needed it! It's nice to know I'm not alone!

    help!

I'm 23 days out and dealing with the same thing. I finally bit the bullet yesterday and bought 4 bottles of Isopure fruit flavors. I don't really care for the taste but I've had one bottle yesterday and one today. I have to say I feel a little better and it counts for Fluid AND Protein. I was getting on the dehydrated side. I am like you - a few bites here and there. I always start my day with a Premier Protein which has 30 grams.
  12. I lived in Roanoke from 1996 - 2008. I attended Lakeside Baptist Church and worked for a few law firms and Mayor David Bowers in downtown Roanoke. Nice quaint little town but I don't miss it! I'm in Seattle now. Good luck with your surgery! I looked into gastric bypass in 1998 and at the time there was only one surgeon in town and a huge waiting list.
  13. Surgery date 12/16 and 12/17, doing well so far. I am on pureed still, about to move to soft on day 27. I'm having a little trouble with constipation. Also had some trouble with nausea these past few days but I think I pinpointed the problem, milk might not agree with me. I am having trouble getting my water intake and that worries me. I think I average about 35-40 oz and I know this just isn't enough but I'm really trying. I drink little sips and just get so full I can't keep drinking because I become nauseated. I've tried every liquid at every temp known to man. I start drinking as soon as I wake up. I'm down 36 lbs (18 pre-op and 18 post-op) and the scale is still now. I won't call it a stall because it has been less than a week. I would just like to start feeling a little more like my old self. In time I guess! I can't even begin to imagine I'll ever get enough calories in to sustain an hour long Zumba class. I am supposed to go back on February 1 (6 weeks post surgery) but I don't think that is going to happen.

    Welcome to the loser's bench!

    Hi guys!

Dr. Ortiz (Ariel) most definitely knows his stuff and the other surgeons in his office are phenomenal! You are in great hands. I had my surgery at OCC on 12/16 and had a great experience. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask or pm me if you like, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

DeezJeans I experienced something very similar. I had my surgery on 12/16. Turns out I had scar tissue built up in my esophagus from years of acid reflux I didn't know I had. I also had a small hernia. I had to have a second procedure to remove the scar tissue and fix the little hernia, then the problem was solved. I hope your situation is resolved soon!

    Goal Gift?

A tattoo. And... maybe budoir photos for my husband, always wanted to have classy budoir photos taken!
  18. All of the pictures are beautiful, but wow what a difference! You look GREAT!
  19. I'd be interested in the answer. I'm 18 days out, on pureed and don't feel hunger either. I'm more or less "eating" by the clock. When I say eating I mean less than 1/4 cup of pureed turkey chili or cottage cheese and the like. I'm still relying on Protein shakes for my protein. I eat about once a day and have a Protein shake in the morning, that is all I seem to desire. Do I push for three times a day?
  20. I went to Mexico on 12/16, had my surgery with Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center. With confidence I can say I received better care there than I have received here in the states. There are some reputable surgeons in Mexico, pricing ranges from $4,500 up to $9,000, depending on the surgeon. I know there is a doctor in Las Vegas - Dr. Umbaugh. I've heard good things about him and I think his price is around $11 - $12K.
  21. I am 17 days out and consuming about 40 - 50 oz of liquid (including my Protein drinks) and 50 - 60 grams or so of protein a day. I'm lucky if I break 350 calories per day. I am really trying with fluids, I start really early in the day but by late day I am bloated and have a hard time with Water intake. I'm going to pick up some Isopure Fruit drinks today to see if that helps. I've noticed that I just don't have energy if I don't get at least 50-60 grams of protein. I'm on puree and I thought I'd be pretty excited about that, but nothing really interests me. I've had cottage cheese, a laughing cow cheese wedge, and a tuna/peas/cheese sauce puree so far in the last 3 days or so. The thought of eating 3 times a day is overwhelming, does that change? I watched my family eat pizza/chips and dip on New Years and it didn't even phase me!

    Want to eat so bad....

I had trouble with nausea, a liquid antacid worked for me when a pill would not (because I kept vomiting the pill). Once the liquid coated my stomach the nausea was completely gone.

    Protein bars

I ordered some Seapoint Farms freeze dried edamame from Amazon to keep in my desk drawer. 1/4 cup has 140 calories, 10 grams carbs and 14 grams of protein. I can't have them for quite sometime as I am only 2 weeks out. Health food stores carry it as well, I've seen it in a few places.
  24. C Section definitely worse!
  25. Dr. Ortiz and his entire team are wonderful. You would be in most excellent hands.
