  1. SnohoGal I sent you a pm but I don't know if it went through. If you don't get it, let me know
  2. SLVRSAX - May I ask where you were sleeved? And shout out to my Sno homie! Love Snohomish county, I've been here since 2008! I was sleeved in TJ, Mexico by Dr. Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center. It was a great experience, moving right along at a good pace.
  3. I'm in Snohomish County too! I had my surgery on 12/16. I was pre-diabetic and did not want to become diabetic.

    help me understand...

The appetite control the sleeve provides helps me make choices based on what my body NEEDS instead of what it WANTS. I can think about food logically instead of emotionally. After a 2 week pre-op diet and another 5 weeks of very restricted eating (in phases as outlined by my surgeon) I feel like I've had a reset. I am being VERY particular about what I put into the engine now. It is still early for me, I am only six weeks out from surgery. Hope that helps!

    OCC March Sleevers

Spirometers on Amazon are about $10.00, that is where I got mine. I could not find one locally, not at Walgreens and not at a medical supply store. OCC will sell you one as well. My husband and I went on Sunday, the day before surgery. It was nice because he could eat a leisurely meal for dinner (hint: avoid the buffet. He said the food was mediocre at best and expensive. He said the food was better ordering off the menu). After dinner we walked up to the Casino for a bit. Be careful walking because there are no crosswalks and people drive crazy! We walked back in the dark and did not feel unsafe, and saw women standing at bus stops, so we didn't think the area was unsafe. One thing I wish I would have packed was a thermomenter. I was at OCC for 2 nights because I had 2 procedures, one on Monday and one on Tuesday. I felt really warm a few times, they took my temp under my armpit and I didn't feel like that was very reliable? So I wish I had packed my own thermometer! You will love the OCC! I had a great experience and received excellent care. 6 weeks out today and 42 lbs down including pre-op!

    Enough calories?

I'm interested in the answer. I am looking to re-start Zumba in February and I don't understand how I'm going to get through a class without dropping given that I'm only taking in 500 to 600 calories. I am six weeks out. The class I go to is taught by a former NFL cheerleader so they are no joke, it is an intense workout. I can't WAIT to go back, just bought new Zumba wear today!

    Stall this early?

I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and have been stalled for the last 2 weeks at a 40 lb loss (18 of that pre-op). Hang in there.

    Online dating

I divorced in 2000, moved from Roanoke, VA to Seattle in July 2008. I met my husband on POF in 2009. We've been married almost 2 years. Good luck to you!
  10. I would report the surgeon who won't refund your money to the Better Business Bureau. I also did my due diligence for an entire year and still went to Mexico. I used Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center. I had a great experience. I can honestly say I received better care in Mexico than I have here in the states. My surgeon in Mexico identified a problem I had that my family doctor here in the states wasn't willing to explore. Not only did he find the problem but he fixed it. The good care I received has inspired me to find a new doctor here at home. Don't be discouraged, read as much as you can before you decide Mexico is not for you. I wish you the best!

    Tuna salad HELP

I use high quality white albacore tuna (my husband works for a seafood company and buys it by the case), low fat mayo, mustard, finely chopped onion or onion powder, sweet relish and a few drops of liquid smoke.

    Anyone have the Mirena?

I've had one for almost 5 years and it is due to be replaced. I'm having it removed entirely. My NUT and ARNP who acts as my OB have both strongly suggested I have it removed and that while there is no data that the Mirena causes weight GAIN, both told me that a large percentage (OB said 60% roughly) of patients report difficulty losing. For the record, my ARNP and NUT do not know each other but they are both women. With Obamacare, it will only cost me my dedictible to have my tubes tied as sterilization is a form of birth control and entirely covered. I plan on doing just that later this year. I realize this isn't an option for everyone but I am most definitely done having children!
  13. I will be six weeks out on Monday. I had 2 procedures - the sleeve and then a hernia fix/scar tissue removal the next day. I remember feeling just like you. I knew I was on the dehydrated side and this worried me. Starting last weekend, nearly overnight I turned a corner. I was finally able to get more fluids because my capacity seemed to increase. What a relief! I found it helpful to start taking in fluids literally as soon as I open my eyes (5:45 a.m. on weekdays). I get a jump start that way. I keep a glass of Water by my bed. When I was able to eat soup, split pea soup has a decent Protein content that I added unflavored protein power to. Around week 3 I noticed that soup with Protein powder added gave me the most protein bang for my buck and was NOT a protein shake! The pea soup in a carton (organic maybe?) seems thinner with better protein. Campbells is thick and more filling. Hang in there, it WILL get better!

    Anti- head hunger

I am five weeks and a few days out. I haven't lost in about 2 weeks, I know that's normal but dang it messes with my head! I'm tolerating everything I eat very well and am more easily recognizing "full". I am getting better on hydration but I have to start hydrating as soon as I wake up to get it all in. I'm hovering around 50 - 60 ozs. I did the treadmill for 30 mins 2 days ago and will again tonight. I don't have the energy for much more than that. Vitamins are going ok too but really thinking of stopping the chewable and switching to 2 petite women's one a day formula. The no loss thing is my biggest worry right now. I find myself wondering if this is where it stops working for me. I'm changing some foods to see if it it helps.

First day on mushy phase 2

Just started week five and I swear, it is like a switch was flipped. My capacity increased a little so that I actually enjoy a meal, not just tolerate it. My energy picked up too probably as a result of the slightly increased capacity. Hang in there. One thing you can count on with this process is a constant state of change!
  16. I look at my hands and wrists sometimes and think they don't belong to me. Downside - hands are starting to look wrinkly!
  17. Split pea soup has good Protein. I buy organic (comes in a carton and not sure on the brand) because it seems a little better on the sodium, no potatoes and carrots and add unflavored protein powder.
  18. Could be acid. I had a horrible time with acid, kind of tasted like a really old penny. Metallic tasting.
  19. Hi Covatila, I couldn't find the spray dressings either and I looked in several stores. In addition to the shakes I drank instant miso soup every other day or so and ate a bag of plain (no butter or oil) steamer bag of brussel sprouts or brocolli every night. The bulk of those veggies filled me up and made the diet more tolerable. I have a hard time losing and I lost 18 lbs on my pre op. I don't know if brussel sprouts were "ok" because I couldn't get the OCC nutritionist to call me back.

    One month weigh in :(

We have similar numbers. My surgery date was 12/16 and I started at 262 after an 18 lb loss on my pre op diet. I am now at 241. I think you (we) have done a great job! I tell myself that as long as I follow my plan, my body is gonna do what it wants so no need to worry about what I can't control. Hang in there! I tell myself all the time that I have to have a little faith in this process but with so many failures under my belt it is hard!

    Game day!

Hometown Hawks are gonna win! We're going to a friend's house, I think they are serving tacos. I made an italian love cake, of course can't eat it but no worries. It doesn't really bother me. GO HAWKS!

    Don't feel right

I have a standing order for IV fluids at a local walk in clinic. I haven't had to use it yet. I was surprised a walk in clinic could give IV fluids. Maybe this would be a good route to avoid an emergency room co-pay if you end up needing fluids.
