Health Does having 85% of your stomach cause any internal issues?
AthinnerAmy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have looked for the answer to this and haven't found a direct answer, but does having 85% of your stomach removed cause other organs to shift around? Does this lead to other problems down the road? My husband brought this up and I just stared at him like a deer in headlights. I know all about the other other complication rates, but I never really thought about what happens whith that space where your stomach used to be. Thanks for the help! -

Trying to stop smoking
AthinnerAmy replied to ashleio84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do this! If possible, try to get on a nicotine replacement. I used the patch when I quit my pack a day habit about 3 years ago. Stay away from people that are smoking and chew mint gum or sip peppermint tea. The first few weeks are hardest, but it get easier over time. I hardly think about smoking anymore and I LOVED to smoke, so I know the pain you're in. Stick it out, you'll be glad you did. -
Keep us posted on how you're doing. I'm curious to know when people start feeling normal-ish.

Full but Still Craving Sugar Help!
AthinnerAmy replied to ArialRockhold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aria-I am curious about how you liked Dr. Juan. I am considering him for my sleeve surgery. How did everything go for you? Tell me the good, bad, and ugly, please. As for the carb issue, if you focus on Protein and lower sugar fruit (strawberries are good) you will get through this. The first few weeks will be very difficult but once you get through them, you will not endure the carb cravings like you are now. I obviously have not had the sleeve yet, but have been following a low carb diet with varying degrees of sucess for the past two years and it does get better, I promise! -
Surgery before starting grad school
AthinnerAmy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking about scheduling my surgery for August, which is a couple weeks before I start grad school full time. Is this a terrible idea? Should I wait until I have a month long break in December? I am not going to be working, but I will be taking 13 hours of classes in a MBA program. What was your energy/mental alertness like after the surgery? I am doing self-pay with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana. -
