My Dr. Rodriguez Experience - Juarez
Band07 replied to Band07's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thats so good to hear! I've been wondering how you were doing! So everything went well it sounds like? Unfortunately I've had a hard time. Pneumonia in both lungs and dehydration but today was my last dose of antibiotics which have made me sick so I'm hoping that it's all up hill from here! 16 lbs is great! That's what I've lost too but it's that's been since 4/20 when I started the "pre op" I'm still fighting feeling tired everyday so that takes some time! I'm glad you're home and doing good though! Thanks for the update! -
I'm kind of becoming obsessed
Band07 replied to PhatPhoenixVSG's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was the exact same way ! Now that I'm post op thankfully it's easier to keep under control. Too busy trying to get in liquids and Protein and balance recovery with getting back to real life. -
Drainage catheter
Band07 replied to Jaymmie Hengle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely surgeon preference, I had one and it was removed 24 hours after surgery thankfully because it was very uncomfortable for me. -
Had my surgery yesterday
Band07 replied to jennn0218's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Use the spirometer!! I ended up with pneumonia a week post op and it's made an already rough journey so much harder than it would have been !! Also do everything you can to stay hydrated, that's no fun either ! I'm 19 days post op today and just now feeling good again. -
Since your surgery, what are some of the things you struggle with? How do you cope?
Band07 replied to BostonStrong617's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 19 days out and I'm struggling with everything !! Hydration is the biggest problem right now because I can feel what it's doing to my body. The only thing I'm good at is taking my vitamins. I had a pretty major setback developing pneumonia in both lungs a week and a half post op so it's made everything harder than it had to be. -
No, you still need to go. Take miralax and if you still don't go, call your doc. It's very serious.

I had surgery 4/23 I'm still exhausted and like you I'm annoyed by it ! I'm used to always on the go, working literally 4 jobs at one time and now I have zero energy ! I used to think naps were for the weak and I'm just now to the point I can make it through the day without. I also became dehydrated and ended up with pneumonia which has drug it out even longer. I agree keep with the liquids, the protein will come later ! Hang in there, I hear it gets better ! Lol

Almost one week out.... things are definitely looking up =) except constipation

Don't wait ! Take miralax if you haven't gone already. You should never go more than a few days even after a surgery, it's very dangerous. -
What did you eat on the plane trip home?
Band07 replied to Proud2BMe's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I drank watered down apple juice on the plane. -
First time at a restaurant
Band07 replied to naomi1009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's awesome !! Right now restaurants sound like the scariest place on earth right now to me I'm so afraid of dumping or something making me sick! -
I had surgery 4/23. I'm on purée until Thursday. A LOT of these suggestions sound more like "soft" food phase to me. Purée should be baby food or apple sauce consistency so unless you are blending them or mashing them into what you would give a 6 month old baby you may be getting ahead of yourself.

If you had been banded chances are you would have lost some but not all your weight or perhaps none at all as the band is hard to perfectly adjust and most people find they are not crazy about the new feelings that come from being banded. If you were banded you would never feel "full" you would stop eating when the pain in your chest/shoulder or back told you too. If you were banded you would have many foods that refused to go through the band and you thew them up instead. If you were banded chances are you would have reflux from food being stuck in your pouch. You may spend countless nights sitting up because laying was too painful because you ate something within 3 hours of going to bed. Your band could embed deep into your stomach or perhaps decide to fuse to your liver. If you were banded food you ate yesterday with no problem may cause you pain and suffering today. AND I say all this as someone who loved my band, and lost all my weight !! But I know it's not a good option for anyone. If you were banded you would at some point need a revision. All WLS is a gamble, none is without consequences.

I know I'm not alone...I would love to hear some updates from others like me who did great with their bands and have struggled since day one with their sleeve. I'm getting desperate again. I'm almost 10lbs heavier than when I had my sleeve surgery 1 yr and 4 months ago. I've literally been hungry since I woke up in recovery, I can now and have always been able to eat much more than any other sleeve patient I've ever talked too. I know it's because of the damage that was done by my band. I'm looking into what is involved in being re-sleeved now that I've had time to heal and stretch from the first surgery. I don't want to hear about my calories and my exercise or my Protein and my Water, I know all of it, I've been a VERY successful post surgery patient losing over 100lbs and maintaining with my band for over six years so I also know that I have to do the work, BUT I should also have a TOOL that helps me out and right now, I don't have that at all.
-
I've been researching resleeving as my sleeve has never worked for me at all. A surgeon who comes very highly recommended believes MGB is a better option than resleeving. I had NEVER even considered such a thing though I figure it doesn't hurt to do a little research. The thing is I weight right around 175 lbs, I'm very happy around 150 lbs, it this surgery too invasive for a lower BMI patient?

2 1/2 weeks out from surgery. Food ideas please!
Band07 replied to ChattyChatterton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mini bypass 4/23. Right now I pretty much hate all food. Nothing sounds good and I'm struggling to get anything in. I tried 1 scrambled egg with some cheese for the first time tonight. Besides that I eat yogurt, cottage cheese, peanut butter and my favorite right now is blended chicken noodle soup. Iv also had mashed potatoes and steamed carrots that were good. I'm thinking I'll try to add some runny refried beans later in the week. I had a few saltine crackers today with butter and just more less turned them into paste in my mouth to keep from throwing up and they helped a lot. I'm on antibiotics for pneumonia that I developed in both lungs after surgery and they make me very sick which is making everything much harder for me. -
April 25th for me, any surgery buddies?
Band07 replied to smiley84's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a mini bypass 4/23. How are you doing now ? -
I wish I could say great but I'd be lying. However I did figure out that it's the antibiotics they gave me for the UTI and the pneumonia that is making me sick. The first 3 side effects are : nausea, vomiting and upset stomach. This has all been much harder than I was prepared for ! But I truly feel without the dehydration/UTI/pneumonia it would be smooth sailing, I haven't had any "surgery" issues so to speak. I have a couple more days on them and then I'm really hoping to start feeling myself again and with that hopefully eating and drinking will follow . Thanks for asking !

AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR IS THIS NORMAL?
Band07 replied to Rev Del's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery 4/23 it's up and down a lot. I'm still weighting everyday but I try not to worry about it right now. I definitely feel like it should be melting off no more than I'm eating but my body has different plans ! Lol -
Thank you !! This is the kind of thing I know I for one need to hear ! My hubby tries hard and he is great but he really has no idea what I'm going through and he doesn't know what to do when I'm crying my eyes out that Iv ruined my life. I'm trying hard but today has been a bad day, everything I try to eat upsets my tummy for some reason.
-
If you decide to pursue it, definitely check out Dr. Rodriguez.
-
Yeah I felt that way too with the sleeve, the bypass is different. I'm scared to death of every food out there because I don't know what may or may not make me dump or just have serious stomach pains. I'm scared to death to eat anything away from home. Good thing you all say food isn't important because I can't stand to think about it. Drinking is he hardest though, like a job I have to make myself do. I know I'm being whiny today and having my own pitty party but I just feel like today everything sucks. I'm still trying to get over the pneumonia and the UTI and I think the antibiotics are making me feel worse as far as appetite and upset stomach.
-
Day 16 and I'm just over it !! I just want to be able to go out with my family for Mother's Day tomorrow. I know it's not true but right now I feel like I will never be "normal" again. I can't even think about food, I kind of hate everything This is my 3rd surgery and by far the hardest !!
-
What are you eating ? How much and how often ?
-
Starting Week 3 - anyone else ?
Band07 replied to Band07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still eating mushy purée type things. I made some really runny mashed potatoes and I puréed carrots last night and cottage cheese for dinner. I'm not supposed to do soft till week 4. How do you judge amounts? I'm not sure that I can feel full yet.
