Why is this ALL I'm thinking about now!?
Band07 replied to KalelsWifey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was a band patient, then sleeve and as of Thursday (4/23) Mini bypass. I never had any regrets or hesitations with the first two but for some reason even though I'm physically doing pretty good, I'm even back at work today, I've had a terrible time emotionally with this one! I keep feeling like wtf did I just do to myself? I'm scared to death now of a life of being sick and dumping. -
Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
Band07 replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've not lost much weight which is crazy since I'm barely getting in 300 calories a day probably. I know it's just how it goes though, it will catch up. I'm only down about 5 lbs since surgery. Yes the first few months are best for easy weight loss but recovery is important too. I'm just SOOO scared of dumping !! I swear they could have put me out, not done a thing, woke me up and told me I had the procedure and I would lose weight from pure fear of eating! lol -
You will see A LOT of debate on this and not even all doctors agree. Personally, I 100 % believe you can stretch a pouch, but probably because I saw mine stretch out from my sleeve and thats why I revised to mini bypass. Also, I worked for years with bypass patients who gained their weight back after stretching their pouches and came in for band over bypass procedures. That being said, it's also important to remember the first year is the honeymoon period and the further out you get the harder it will be to lose. This doesn't always mean stretched pouch, it can also mean your body is just used to things now so its up to you to be diligent about eating and exercise if you want to get to and stay at goal. Year two is where the real work begins.

Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
Band07 replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow yes that seems like a quick progression! I would be scared to death to put anything in my mouth that I felt my new belly wasn't ready for! I'm actually in no hurry to add anything, I want to take it slow for awhile. My plan is clear liquids only for the first week : Broth/Jello/Popcicles/Apple juice (watered down) and G2. Week 2 : Full liquids : Protein shakes/creamy soups/smoothies Week 3 : Purees : Apple sauces/yogurt/steamed mashed veggies Week 4 : Soft : Cottage cheese/Refried beans/Mashed potatoes This is my plan from Mexico, when I was sleeved in the US my surgeon was super careful with post op eating and required 4 WHOLE WEEKS of full liquids only! It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life! This is already super easy compared to that lol. Just go slow, remember just because that is your plan doesn't mean you can't go slower if you're not ready to advance. -
I researched obsessively for about 3 months but I was unhappy for the entire time I had the sleeve. I initially had hoped to resleeve but yes, Dr. Rodriguez recommended the conversion because of a few reasons, one being that my body was used to restriction only procedures and it would continue to be a struggle for me and also long term continued risk of the sleeve stretching out again due to my scar tissue and two prior surgeries. After really looking into it, those things made sense to me too.

6 weeks out and still having regret...
Band07 replied to patrickm613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just revised from sleeve to mini bypass on Thursday 4/23. I didn't have GERD but my sleeve was stretched and I was regaining quickly. I never expected to feel emotionally the way I am with this surgery. Physically I'm great but emotionally I'm freaking out like "what did i just do to myself" I'm on Clear liquids and they are going down fine, I'm hoping it gets better soon. I'm just scared to death I'll never be able to eat anything again without getting sick or dumping ! -
Hi there, yes I guess things did progress rather fast. I had surgery on Thursday evening, I came home late Saturday night. I'm back to work today. Physically I feel pretty good, tired as I'm still on Clear liquids and not getting in too many calories. Emotionally, it's been really hard on me for some reason. The surgery and the hospital and surgeons were great though!

I'm so glad I found this ! I had sleeve to MGB on Thursday and I would feel great except I can't kick these headaches ! At first I thought stiff neck (which has given me many in the past) from all the travel ( Mexico ) and surgery and hospital bed. Then I thought maybe the aspartame from sugar free jello and Popsicles since Iv completely avoided artificial sweeteners the last two years, but really I don't care, I just want them gone !! They are the only reason I'm still taking any pain meds

I had surgery Thursday 4/23 around 7 in the evening. I'm a sleeve to mini bypass revision. I had pretty uncomfortable gas pain and I had a drain that was miserable till they took it out. I'm on clear liquids and they are going down fine. If not for a dull headache I can't get rid of I would feel great ! I have low energy but I'm prob only getting 300 calories a day right now. I'm going back to work tomorrow.

I didn't feel any depression at all with the band or the sleeve but this is a lot scarier I guess because of the bypass for me. I just don't want to never be able to eat anything again without feeling so sick I want to die or worse s--- my pants ! I'm on a FB group that is only MGB patients and they are trying to help calm me but also say it's pretty normal. With the sleeve you won't need to worry at all though ! You will definitely resume a normal life ! -

Feeling good, gas is pretty much gone and I only have pain when I get up and down and pull at my incisions. I feel like I'm getting my fluids in pretty good but I'm on clear liquids so they are going down easy. I have had some depression and some wtf did I just do moments though in regards to the bypass. -
Well, it's official, I'm scheduled for my revision from sleeve to MGB on 4/23 and I'm also officially scared to death !! I really hope I'm doing the right thing.

Everything was great ! Gas pain and pain from the drain was the worst but as of today I feel good except occasionally moving wrong and feeling pulling in the incisions. I'm on clear liquids for a week and they are going down well. I'm still resting for the most part mixed in with some laundry, dishes, light cleaning ect but I go back to work tomorrow.Great to see you the other side . BUT BACK TO WORK TOMORROW? DId your surgeon OK that. Most folks I know take minimum 4 weeks off. Please take good care of yourself and your new WL tool. Xx 4 weeks! Lol that's crazy, I would go nuts ! Remember this isn't my first surgery, I had lapband on a Friday and went back Monday, I had my band to sleeve revision on a Friday and went back Tuesday. I'm not over doing it, I work at a desk and believe me, I'm doing great ! I never understood how anyone could need more than a week at absolute max !

Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
Band07 replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Band07, Good luck tomorrow! I think I'm having a regular bypass, I don't remember 'mini' being mentioned. But to be true, many of my visits have been in Dutch and while I get most of it (and repeat it back to them in my Dutch or in full on English), there's a chance I missed the 'mini' part. I'll ask tomorrow before going under. I have other things to be fixed while I'm in. An incisional hernia from my open gall bladder surgery and a paraesophageal hernia that developed since my sleeve surgery in 2012. Anyways, we'll see what happens. I do wish you loads of luck and prayers for us both! How did things go ? How are you doing ? I had a lot of gas pain and I had a drain which it was very uncomfortable but as of today I'm feeling good, I'm on Clear liquids for the first week and the broth/jello/Popsicle/G2 are going down good. I'm planning to go back to work tomorrow. -

If I was going to do it again, I wouldn't fly in and have surgery the same day. It was just too much for me personally. We left our house at 5 am and I wasn't able to eat all day. Our plane was delayed and it was 7 o'clock (9 pm to me )before I went into surgery so I was worn out, grouchy and starving to death. As far as the process, they aren't on a great schedule and things kind of just happen when they happen. If you are someone who has to know every little detail of what to expect when you will have a hard time. After the surgery I was surprised that they didn't hover much like I'm used to in the US (coming in every five mins) but they were always quick to come if I pressed the button. I had a drain (some do some don't) so that was where most of my discomfort came from and pretty bad gas pain in my left side. I had 2 leak tests, one in surgery and one the next day that I was able to watch and have a copy of. The docs were very nice but they are busy and do rush in and out so have your questions ready. -

I'm typing this from the Dallas airport heading home today after surgery on Thursday. Let me tell you, I spent a whole lot of time worrying about things like random gun fire and drug cartels in Juarez only to feel slightly ridiculous once I was actually there. If I had felt a little better on Friday I would have even ventured out to the mall. You shouldn't have any problems going alone though you will need to rely a little more on the staff to help you with things. Not all speak English so just get a good translator app and you should be fine. -
