Fish Oil, take 2,000 mg of Fish oil per day. GNC carries an orange-flavored gel Fish Oil called Coromega which is better than trying to swallow huge fish oil capsules. Also I use Revita shampoo and conditioner. It stops shedding and encourages hair hrowth. Avail on Amazon.

Dealing with dinner on vacation
cindymg replied to Shoota's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't really cook (not that I can't cook -- I just find it tedious). So I eat out all the time, and travel for business. Never, not once, has any waiter/waitress looked at me twice when I ordered only an appetizer, or finished only 1/3 of my meal. Maybe it's because I am an overweight, "mature" woman, and the wouldn't dream of insulting me (seriously, things are different for women than men). Plus, I think so many people have such unique dietary needs these days, they have gotten used to it. Heck, I have a Weight Watchers friend who carries laminated drink cards to give to bartenders! I'm not that bad, yet. Finally, I put myself through college waiting tables. So my philosophy is "always overtip for every occasion." I hope that helps the next person who comes in with an "odd" order. -
Yeah, my inner b***h is coming out a lot. Hey, ya' think it's because I'm not pushing the anger down with food anymore?

cindymg replied to AnnMarie1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you! I notice that I enjoy my friends much more when I am not obsessed with the food, too. -

Feeling Physically drained everyday
cindymg replied to roundy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just had major surgery. Give yourself a break. My first three weeks were spent going from the bed to the couch back to the bed. Week 3 I tried taking a 20 minute walk, and thought I was going to have to call a cab to take me 4 blocks home. At week 4 I was finally feeling human again. I started walking and my energy started returning. Now I am in week 10, down 42 lbs, walking 3.5 miles 4 times a week -- and I have energy to spare! It will get better. It will be amazing! -
I'M OVERWEIGHT! No longer Obese, or heaven forbid Morbidly Obese! Sleeved May 15. Starting weight 258. Current weight 214. 5'11". Onederland here I come!

I am certainly not a doctor, but that sounds like blood pressure to me. I've had HBP for 40 years, and tried every med on the market. And had every side effect. Part of my reason for the sleeve was to get off my meds, and I am almost there! Don't know how Australia medical doctors work, but suggest that you call and/or get in right away -- like today! Your condition sounds dangerous, as in you shouldn't be driving! Good luck!

Yeah, we had dreadful heat and humidity last week and I almost passed out on my morning walk. Light headed, spots before my eyes, the whole thing. I had to sit down by a tree for like a half hour until it passed. I started to think that maybe I've become one of those old people who should stay in the air conditioning when the weather is extreme and the air quality is bad. Or it could be I need to cut back my high blood pressure med again. I am only taking 1/3 of what I used to take, but I am going to cut that in half now. Could that be what's happening to you? Do you take meds and have you adjusted for weight loss? Have you called your doctor and told them about this?

Trying to talk husband out of the band
cindymg replied to skinnyphotog's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Knowing that there is a permanent solution (the sleeve) I view at the Lap Band as an option for people who want to change their minds. Otherwise, why would anyone put themselves through the trouble of the band? -
Take Fish Oil. The pre and post op diets don't contain enough good fats, that's why your hair falls out. Coromega is fish oil in a gel pack, orange flavored. Avail at GNC or online. Also Revita shampoo and conditioner will help your hair grow. Avail on Amazon. Expensive, but worth it.

I am 10 weeks out. I haven't vomited once. Hardly even felt nauseated. Learned early that it hurts to overeat, so I am better able to judge when I am full -- and to stop when that happens. Good luck!

10 weeks out not loosing
cindymg replied to ramirelek's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I don't have as much restriction as I had when I first started eating solids. But I can still only eat a few ounces of solids (4-5). And just 4 oz of yogurt at a time. At least I am not causing myself pain like I did in the beginning and I am learning what full feels like (not something I ever felt before my sleeve). What helped me was not drinking with meals. I was fooling around with a few sips while eating. I could eat more because I was washing the food through too fast. Now I set my timer at the end of a meal and don't drink until it goes off. -
10 weeks out not loosing
cindymg replied to ramirelek's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi. You and I seem to be on the same path. I am 10 weeks out and have 40 more lbs to lose! What is working for me: - Staying off the scale. Obsession with the scale makes me crazy and leads to bad eating behavior. As long as I am following my program, the weight will come off. - Pushing myself just a little farther and faster when I exercise. - Tracking my food using MyFitnessPal. It helps keep me mindful. - Trying on my old clothes to see how far I have come. - Being grateful. So grateful that I found this path, that my health issues have resolved, that I no longer dread every day of beating myself up over food, that I can see a happy future for myself instead of a miserable one of yo-yo dieting and related health problems. Stick with your plan. Those 40 lbs will be gone in no time. It's going to be amazing! -
Another classic DonRodolfo! Now posted to my Facebook page as the current state of my running life. But I'll get better . . . 2 minutes to 4 minutes to the world!!!!!

Will the excitment still be there after 6 months?
cindymg replied to nnegrete329's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My 6 months of hoop jumping gave me time to really investigate the surgery, and how my life would be afterwards. If I was a bit skeptical before, after reading and talking to people about the sleeved life, I was absolutely sure that this was the right choice for me by the time of my surgery. Since my surgery 9 weeks ago, I am even more excited for my new life. Just keep moving forward. Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing! -
Good books for the emotional aspects of post-surgery?

Thanks tigerbelle. I'm sure they will think it's a good idea. -
I am having a couple of jackets and a skirt altered right now. These pieces were easy to do, as the shoulders and arms were okay, the tailor is just tapering at the waist, or taking in the back seam. If they have to take the jacket apart, take in the arms, etc., then the cost becomes prohibitive. I've lost weight many times and found that it's nearly impossible to have pants altered. They never hang right. So, I plan to sell those on eBay, and I can buy smaller pants to go with my classic blazers (the manufacturer still makes them). Here's something to think about though: even altered, the clothes are still your "fat clothes." I personally never feel as good in altered fat clothes as I do new, non fat clothes. But since I don't really have 1,000's sitting around for all new suits, I am trying to make do.

I couldn't stand purée so my nut and I agreed that since I had never had any complications, nausea or vomiting, I could move to really soft mushy foods. I was big into stews and things like chowder. Cooked really, really well with lots of liquid. They went down easy. I still eat these even 9 weeks out, when my tummy gets a little upset from "regular" food.

I'm from Chicago. Northside. Oh wait. Maybe since you started this in the Men's Forum, you were only looking for men from Chicago? Tee hee! Let me know if you find any good ones, will you? I'm single!

I am 9 weeks out. Sorry, I can eat just about any meat. I live on chicken (Boston Market makes really soft, moist chicken). Beef goes down well, although I haven't tried steak yet. I can even eat a bit of chili-cheeseburger. I don't say this to brag -- I just don't want newbies to think that they can never eat chicken or beef again. What I have problems with are fresh, steamed vegetables. They seem to activate my stomach acid, and leave me feeling like there is a hole in my tummy. I can eat well-cooked veggies, like in Soup or a stew. Just not the steamed (even well-steamed) ones. Anyone else have that problem?

Good books for the emotional aspects of post-surgery?
cindymg replied to stacechase's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was actually wondering if we could start a forum called "WLS Book Club." Then each WLS book a could be its own thread and those of us that had read the book could discuss. Wonder how we do that?
