Life expectancy, cancer, fears, oh my!
cindymg replied to StawberryBlond's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't obesity one of the risk factors for cancer? You can do this! It's going to be amazing! -
I took 4 weeks because mine is a traveling job, and I couldn't lift my suitcase. I needed every day of that 4 weeks!

Scared. Is ANYONE healthy after this surgery?
cindymg replied to Kaj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 11 weeks out, lost 44 lbs, resolved co-morbidities. I have had NO complications. No pain, no nausea, no vomiting, no hunger. And, I feel fabulous with the extra 44 lbs gone. Another 40 to go! There are so many sleevers out there like me, but I guess we don't post as much since everything is going so remarkably well. Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing! -
A two week clear liquid diet really isnt that bad.
cindymg replied to karpouzian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you cut out sugar and caffeine now, it will make the pre-op liquid diet MUCH easier. The first three days of liquids are tough enough without having to go through sugar and caffeine withdrawal at the same time. -
VSG or RNY for diabetic with kidney disease
cindymg replied to skcross's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 59 and a 20 year diabetic. I was on 10mg Glipizide XL 2x a day. Should have been on insulin, but I refused so I was living with 300 blood sugars and a 10.7 A1C. Don't have the problems you have, but I was starting to lose the feeling in my feet and knew I was headed down the path towards amputation. I am 11 weeks out from sleeve surgery. Lost 44 lbs, halfway to my goal. Right after the surgery, cut my Glipizide to 1/4, blood pressure med to 1/8 what I was taking. My sugars are running 100-130. My A1C is now a 7. Still losing weight so I am hoping to get the A1C down to 6 by my next check. I am not a doctor, so i can't advise you. But for me the sleeve offered me the best surgery with the fewest side effects and the least amount of downtime. Have you had any counseling? With all of the tragedies in your life, sounds like you could use some grief counseling. By the way, you will find the pre-op diet a lot easier if you eliminate sugar and caffeine now. The first few days of the liquid diet is tough enough, without having to go through sugar and caffeine withdrawal too. Good luck to you! -
Hi. I'm 11 weeks out today and have lost 44 lbs. i am horrified at the thought of anyone seeing me in a swimsuit, not that I have one I can wear. The skin on my inner thighs and upper arms looks like a deflated balloon. I knew I was going to lose weight; I forgot about the impact on my skin. I thought about having my face lifted next year. Now I am thinking the thighs and arms will be first. Not really complaining or looking for a solution. Just whining!

Almost no restriction- depressed and stressed

Are you drinking when you eat? That could be the reason you can take in so much. -
Hi Mocha2871: check out the other Chicago threads. Lots of UIC patients. I was sleeved at St Joseph's. Love my surgeon and his team, if you are interested.

broth, drink broth. And not the low sodium kind. Your body needs salt to survive so it will give you a boost of energy. I used to go to Panera Bread and ask for the chicken noodle or French onion Soup -- just the broth. They were always very nice to just give me the broth, and it always gave me energy. Hang in there! It's going to be amazing!

Are you on an acid reducer. Doctor gave me liquid Prevacid, which really helped. You can also find chewable Pepcid at Walgreen's. Sounds like acid is getting to you. Good luck and hang in there. It's going to be amazing!

Looking good! Congratulations!

motivation and exercise, anyone else relate
cindymg replied to sillygirlmi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you enjoy running, or are you just doing it to lose weight? If it's the latter, maybe you could find something you do enjoy. It's no fun to keep beating yourself up doing something because you HAVE to, not because you WANT to. If you find an exercise that you do enjoy, I'll bet you find you don't have a problem with exercise motivation. -
Sorry to tell you this, but you need to get used to the liquids -- or cancel your surgery now. You'll be doing liquids for another 2-3 weeks after the surgery too. Broths, drink the broths. And not low-sodium. Your body needs salt to survive. Strain chicken noodle or French onion soup for a satisfying taste

Fish Oil, take fish oil! My hair started thinning in my 50s, long before my sleeve surgery. I started taking fish oil capsules because I couldn't take cholesterol meds, and quite by accident I noticed one day that there was no longer hair in the shower drain, and on my hands after I put gel in my hair. The pre and post op diets don't contain enough good fats, that's why your hair falls out. GNC and Amazon have a gel fish oil, 2,000 mg, called Coromega. It's much easier to take for sleevers than trying to swallow big fish oil capsules. To help hair regrow, look in Revita shampoo and conditioners. Avail on Amazon. They also have minoxidil serums for the scalp. I've been using their products for about a year and my hair is thicker and I see a lot of regrowth where it was thinning.

I sat through an entire day of meetings with my jacket buttoned! And I was comfortable! -
I checked my RTD shakes in cooler bags (they contained fresh milk) along with my Bullet blender. TSA always opened the bag, but I think it was the metal in the blender that set them off. Nothing ever disturbed. Bariatric Advantage has powdered shakes in individual bottles ready to be shaken with Water or skim milk. Easy to carry through security, although TSA advised to take the bottles out of my carryon and place in the tray so that the plastic bottle shape didn't upset anyone. Skim or 2% milk was fairly easy to find in an airport, if you can have that on your plan.

I'm making this process longer...ugh

You know, when you get lung cancer you will lose weight really fast! My three-pack-a-day stepfather lost nearly 200 lbs in the 3 months from the time they discovered the lung cancer to the day he died. It was not a pretty death -
Do you think maybe the mood swings are because you are no longer pushing down emotions with food? That's been my issue. Learning to deal with life without my drug of choice -- food -- can be hazardous!
