10 days into an all liquid diet and 7 days away from surgery and I get a call... "Due to unforseen circumstances, you and 7 others have been put on "hold" by the hospital execs until Medicare pays the hospital for prior surgeries. The look on my face when i got the call... W.T.F? Apparently, the hospital execs at Conway hospital in south carolina, have lost a fair amount of money bringing in a new surgeon, Dr. Washington. To "drum up business" they reduced the fee of the surgery to 8K. Anyone who is on Medicare (like me) has to go to a Dr who has a certificate of excellence..which Dr W DID get in March...and performed surgeries after for medicare patients....but Medicare has yet to pay the hospital for it and so they put a halt to any medicare surgeries till they get paid. Can we say UGH!!! I understand a hospital is a business as well,,, but c'mon.. you KNOW medicare is going to pay. Now recently was informed that MediCAID has said they will NEVER pay for ANY sort of bariatric surgery in Conway Hospital... Im thinking Im glad I decided to go to MUSC instead...now all I have to do is 3 tiny steps..and I can be back on track for surgery... How frustrating this is ... been going thru this since April 2012 The good news... after being on the liquid diet I did lose 18 lbs in 2 weeks...just wanna keep this momentum going...

herniated discs, sciatica and the sleeve-exercise help please!
KristinLeigh replied to oldskoolsooz's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have the same troubles with a back injury, altho I am still pre-op I have already spoken with Dr's regarding this. Im going to do two things... first, for excersize.. swimming swimming swimming!! takes pressure off your spine, the resistance of the water helps build strength and laps are great for cardio Secondly, I am going to have something called radial nerve eblasion done... in a nut shell, the dr is going to put 4 super heated needles on either side of my spin and "burn" away the nerves. They WILL grow back but it takes somewhere between 6 months and 3 yrs for them to do so... and in the mean time I will be able to exersize without nerve pain like sciatica My local hospital has a wellness center with an indoor pool, and thats where I intend to go, plus I get a free months membership for being a bariatric patient so I figured.. why not? -
How long did it take to get the pre op stuff done?
KristinLeigh replied to Heartonsleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
might depend on your insurance... I am on medicare... so I had to go thru a minimum of 6 months worth of nutrition classes ( 1 class a month ) some insurances only require 3 classes. It also depends on what you have to do for the bariatric surgeon as far as clearances go, which means going to other Dr's..having to schedule appts. I was required to get clearance from my primary, a cardiac, and a pulmonologist.. all of those required some time to make and GET the appt.. Either way..the sooner you start.. the sooner its here -
Pre Pre-op diet :)
KristinLeigh replied to startingtolivenow's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sounds to me like youre taking the right steps. Coming off the sodas is hard and you dont want to make yourself more miserable by having to be on nothing but a liquid diet and going thru those sort of withdrawls! Cutting out the carbonation now will be a great step in starting a healthy diet...start drinking a lot of water!! I'd also get into the habit of not drinking anything 30 mins before or after you eat. After surgey, your ability to "hold" food is going to be so limited, you dont want that "space" being taken up by water, but by your proteins instead...but.. getting into the habit of drinking water is good now because eventually after surgery you want to work your way up to drinking 64 oz a day..and that can seem like a hard task post op especially after the first week. Best of luck to you, sounds to me like this time isnt going to be a "failure" for you as you seem to really be making healthy, consious choices! -
Huge regret, what have I done? So sad.
KristinLeigh replied to GGJIMENEZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my Dr told me that it would take a minimum of 4 weeks to start eating solid foods again after surgery. And it was going to have be to healthy foods.. you wont be able to just eat anything you want..so consult your nutrionsit for an aftercare diet.. also according to the paperwork and diet I was given from my Dr.. it takes a bit to be able to even drink the water you need.. according to what they showed me i was going to have to "work my way up" to drinking 64 oz a day. I was also told to expect to be only able to eat a few small bites of food before feeling full. Just make sure those bites are of protein!! Vomiting, while not necessarily "normal" can happen and I was warned up front about it...also was warned on the dangers of too much sugar causing a "dumping" syndrome and messy things happening from "the other end"... like everyone else said..id consult your dr, and try to work on listening to what your body is telling you about the food.. sounds like you might be trying to eat too much... even tho its still just a small amouint compared to what we all normally ate pre-op. Best of luck! -
I was using Muscle Milk Light...17oz..I preffered the chocolate as it has a great taste, no after taste, seemed filling enough.. cost is roughly 40bucks a case..they even sell it at some Wal-marts and at GNC so readily available.

When you get skinny, don't shop at A&F.
KristinLeigh replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
Loved a recent article I read about a guy who is taking any donated A&F clothing and giving it all to the homeless. Ellen Degenress said recently also that "beauty is not found only between a size zero and a size eight, it is not a physical thing" in response to that cretin who is their CEO.
