Thanks a bundle! I'll definitely look into that! BTW, you're so lucky your docs are on the high protein low carb side!!!! What I wouldn't pay to find a doc with that same mentality for myself and my kids. lol. All the doctors I've been to are high carbs low fat monsters. They could care less what else I'm doing as long as I'm eating "enough whole grains" LOL. -
Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
MumtazG38 replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah exactly! LOL. I however have always been considered a lightweight for this wls. However my problem is more that I have been obese since I was 11. I sort of just ballooned from a scrawny boney thing to a big mess of pudgyness overnight lol. My doctors have all said it's PCOS and additionally the insulin resistance caused by it/causing it yada yada. But honestly, seeing as there is no cure for PCOS short of weight loss, and the fact I don't even remember myself being thin for even the shortest period of time in my life, and all the weight I've lost and put back and lost again in all the years cumulatively....this surgery is my only option. Hence, both my doctors (family and obgyn) have recommended wls to me numerous times over the years. They've seen my history. They know there isn't a diet out there that'll work, and that I've tried them all with failure after failure. I think my doctor thinks it's about time I made my mind towards it anyways lol. I'm sure she's annoyed by how many years it took to sink in after she initially told me it might be something I needed to consider lol. -

Plus you beat your surgeons goal! Oh happy day! HAHA!. Not to mention you could potentially be a size 2 or even less (whispers) *a size 0* ! If/when you actually begin to exercise routinely! Wow, way to go girl! -

OMG! What a terrible nightmare for the person who was in surgery right at that moment! Yikes......imagine waking up from anesthesia and finding out the OR you were in went out of power during your surgery and you may or may not have been stitched up in a real mess of a hurry!...if at all...(I know that would be going through my mind at least) I hope they get the power back up and running asap and reschedule you immediately! -

Are chicken bouillon cubes okay if I can't find Kosher chicken broth?
MumtazG38 posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
I eat a strictly Kosher/Halal diet and cannot find any chicken broths that are Kosher available in stores near me, or even online (minus the hefty bulk only + shipping prices). I'm thinking of just going with either the Maggi or Knorr bouillon cubes easily available to me and adding 1 cube per 2-3 cups of boiling Water to use in place of the broth directly or in recipes. This would additionally be ideal for when I go to actually have the procedure in Mexico, as I won't be able to have any of the hospital/hotel provided varieties for the same reasons. So I can just take a pack of cubes and use the microwave. And just in case anyone's wondering, homemade is simply not an option for me as I need something far more convenient. I need to be able to pull off the shelf, warm/boil and sip at throughout the day. Convenience is a necessity when your chasing around after a toddler boy and an 8 month old crawl-o-matic! I won't be able to keep up with boiling/cooking stock as continuously as I'd need to as I don't tend to eat frozen stock because it tastes strange after the freezer. I have a HUGE tupperware box sitting in the freezer that I won't throw away cause it took a whole chicken to make lol, and lots of work and time.......but the freezer taste is in it so I won't use it LOL. -
10 day post-op cheating :-(
MumtazG38 replied to ummsantos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Additionally, I feel you should know that there are more options out there like donor breast milk IF and only IF you consider weaning. However, my suggestion is initially this that you should talk to your doctor about what you can do to maintain your nutritional needs post-op and also be able to maintain healthy breast feeding, as that is the best thing for your child and honestly something so important shouldn't be so easily taken away from your child IF you may still have the option to breastfeed. Therefor, I suggest you discuss that with your doctor IF you are considering it. Another thing is, breastfeeding will burn a nice number of calories on it's own, so if you do eat (what you are allowed) you may easily be able to lose weight and maintain healthy breast milk for your precious child. I think it all boils down to discussing your options with your doctor. You made it this far breastfeeding, and you're doctor did not have you wean you're child due to the surgery and I'm sure he/she has good reason to let you have that option. Just talk to her/him and I'm sure you can make it work. -

Honestly, it looks like to me you need increase your Water intake. Once you get in the recommended water, if you still feel the same then I think you may need to talk with your doctor/surgeon. Please avoid the chicken and definitely the rice (so hard on your stomach at this stage.....or any really). But firstly, I think you are feeling not full/hungry simply because you are not getting in enough water. The water (albeit in Soups, blends, shakes, smoothies, broths, stocks or just plain h2o etc, whatever you're allowed at this stage) will keep your stomach full as needed. Drink it in sips, get it in whenever you can. Include whatever water is in your other meals too. If grazing is you're problem due to hunger. Then try to schedule 3-5 meals a day you know you will/are supposed to have according to your doctors' recommendations according to your nutritional needs. Then just drink water in whatever (preferably sugar free/ fibrous fruit free form) you like throughout the day morning to night and make sure that you get the required amount in each day. I'm confident you will feel too full to care for food (other than mental hunger, but that is something we all need to learn to conquer post-op). Just try this and let us know how it goes. Of course ask your doctor before you change ANYTHING! Goodluck sweety. oh and p.s. Take this advice with a serious grain of salt, I'm not speaking from experience here as I have not had the procedure yet. But my suggestions are coming from long discussions with my doctor I've had regarding life post-op, and plenty of accurate resources through my own research. I'm sure that plenty of post-opers on here can agree that what I am saying is sensible, and won't hurt to try to say the least. -
I Can't Wait To Not Have To...
MumtazG38 replied to BrickHouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait to go somewhere and NOT have to sit down every 5 minutes because my feet are already killing me. I also can't wait to not have to cut the trip/outing short because of my sore aching tortured toes too! This ruins everything for my husband and I, and the kids. -

hmmm...that has me worried too. I don't see any solution short of calling each unflavored protein powder company and asking them directly. Ugh....I'd rather not. Just got through doing the same to make a list of kosher/halal boxed cereals........which ended with my list completely blank lol. Most of them have pork, and the ones that don't have non-kosher beef in some form or another. Either way. I'm just going to have to make do with what I have. Already bought two boxes of the premium Protein shakes in chocolate and despite liking them or disliking them....they will be my main source for protein come the next stage post-op. No worries! Was just hoping to get more protein so I don't give my body an excuse not to "lose" anything but my hair lol. -

You know what that isn't a bad idea at all! I'll go to my local krogers and check out the kosher section again and see if I can find it there. Do you know how much it costs at yours? Thanks so much for the offer! That is super nice of you! -
Are chicken bouillon cubes okay if I can't find Kosher chicken broth?
MumtazG38 replied to MumtazG38's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've noticed that with most broths/bases/stocks/cubes the protein per 1 cup serving is very low, like with the knorr cubes and the pacific naturals chicken broth the protien is 1gms. And the protein to carb ratio is 1/1 nonetheless. I was just wondering how I might get my protein in in the beginning so I don't start a trend towards losing all my hair.....and since protein is absolutely necessary no matter what stage post/pre-op are there tasteless protein powders out there I could add to my stock/broths? Or supplements I would be able to stomach on either stage? -

Super duper THANKS! LOL. Just submitted my order at soupsonline.com for one jar to test the stuff out. About 14$ with the shipping, but if it tastes good and has 10 calories per 8oz serving and half the amount of salt that the cubes have (and quite a few of the broths/stocks out there too) like it says...it's totally worth it! -

oh ok. Gotcha! Yeah, I could always order some chicken soup/broth and strain out the noodles or something if it came down to it. Thanks. I'll have to look into that pacific natural though! Thanks a bunch! -

Will definitely have to go look for that. Do you know where in DB they sell the broth you mentioned? I wouldn't mind a trip down there (it's not even a 10 minute drive for me honestly) if I can find it there. Do you know the brand name for the kosher one? I will ask when I get there, but just in case they don't know what I'm talking about (happens enough at whole foods lol), I thought I'd at least have that info on hand. -

Thats great and all. And I've been doing homemade weekly for over a year now and honestly majority of it always goes to waste because of the taste (after the freezer). But my main concern is having something I can take with me to TJ for after the procedure. I definitely want something high in Protein and low in calories/carbs of course, but I'm running out of options. Taking homemade non-frozen (or even frozen lol....it's gonna melt haha) broth isn't a good idea to say the least.
