Heading to the hospital in five hours...can't sleep!
vinniej3 replied to time4me2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck and welcome to the sleeved life. You're going to do great! -
I did 5.19 miles today, and my total is 55.87 miles. I need to average 3 miles a day until September 30th, and I'll hit the century mark.

Tracking your progress. is there an ap for that?
vinniej3 replied to Jeanette3082's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Fitness Pal is a great tracker. Not only does it track your food, but it also tracks your weight and your excercise. You can also run reports showing your weight loss over a week, 90 days, 180 days and 1 year. Hope this helps. -
I agree w/ what most posters above have said... most people at the gym feel the way you do. The other folks at the gym that aren't embarrassed are probably so focused on themselves that they don't notice anyone else. It may be a good idea that you find a personal trainer to help you get into a good routine. Good luck and you're going to do great!

Congrats and welcome to the sleeved life. That's great news about your recovery thus far! I'm nearly six weeks out, and I had little to no complications. Be sure to keep walking; I firmly believe that my recovery went well due to all the walking I did!

That's awesome! Congrats!

What it's Like on the Other Side

Outstanding news. Congrats and welcome to the sleeved life. -
You can handle it. Take it one day at a time and drink tons of water! Water is key and water is your friend. If you need a little flavor, try propel zero!

7 months post op and on a 3 month stall!
vinniej3 replied to skinnygirlinside's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hang in there. I'm just coming off my first stall, and I understand how demoralizing it can be. Have you taken any measurements of yourself. My surgeon suggested doing so, as he said when the scale won't cooperate, the ruler generally tells the truth. Good luck and you're in my thoughts and prayers. -
Great start to your journey. I'm surprised you are able to type at all. I was trying to explain to some folks last night about the first day after surgery, and it was tough to remember! Welcome to the club!

Amazing loss. Congrats and keep up the great work!

Good luck Alan. You won't regret this! -
lsu, keep up the good work. You can make it up today. I've got to kick it into high gear, as I will be watching my Tide tame Johnny Football on Saturday (I'm assuming from you name you're a Bengal Tiger fan).

I'm at 35.94. I'm cutting it close, but I plan to pick it up the next few days. This is a great little group/goal/challenge!

Welcome. Ask as many questions as possible. As you know, you'll get a lot of great answers!

I'm five weeks out, but I'm taking an opposite approach from pammy. I'm still trying to be a fanatic about the program. I've lost a decent amount of weight since surgery (27 lbs), and I feel much better for it. My doctor said that you'll never get another chance like we have during the honeymoon phase, so make the most of it. That's what I'm trying to do. At the end of the day, you should do what works for you. My journey is different from pammy's and yours. I think the key is that we've all decided to take the first step on that journey, and in the end that's what really counts. Best of luck!

One month down, 34 lbs gone forever
vinniej3 replied to dustin551's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! How many calories do you eat in a day? What about exercise? You must be extremely proud of the success! -
It's hard to believe that one month has flown by. I'm feeling better than I have in years, and I'm so happy I went through with the surgery. Officially, I've lost 25 pounds since the day of surgery. I've been in a stall for the past week and a half, but this morning I woke up and finally lost another pound and a half which got me to 25. For some reason, I set this goal that I would lose 30 pounds in the first month. I didn't reach that goal, but I will take a 25 pound loss. Other victories, I'm exercising every day (aerobic as I'm on lift restriction until 6 weeks out). I just received clearance to begin yoga, so I'm looking forward to stretching it out. I've gone down a full pant size, and two shirt sizes. I can wear my wedding ring again. Most importantly, I'm not letting food control my life. I tell myself with every bite that food is fuel. It doesn't matter what tastes good and tastes bad, only how it affects my body. I'm really pushing this "belief" as I'm definitely a food addict and I want to stay away from those demons. All in all, this has been a very positive experience. Fortunately, I haven't had any major complications. I'm getting my life back and I encourage anyone on the fence to take the plunge. It is totally worth it!

6 week update pics.
vinniej3 replied to gettingslim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job! -
Yesterday marked 4 weeks since the sleeve. The first three weeks showed an incredible loss of 24 pounds. I hopped on the scale yesterday, and no loss (cue the music... duh, duh, duh)... the dreaded stall. Oh well, I'll take 24 pounds in a month. Plus, I'm down a few sizes in clothes, I can wear my wedding ring and I got to buy clothes from a regular store and they actually fit. I know I'm doing a good job eating (getting my protein in and staying around 1000 calories a day), but I'm determined to get through this stall. I knew it was coming, but it is demoralizing nonetheless. Here's to a great start to the next 4 weeks and another 20 lbs lost forever!

Pain was bearable for me, but I was a bit out of it due to anesthesia. However, the sooner you get up walking around the better. I made myself get up and walk the hallways every few hours. I'm convinced it helped me w/ a speedy recovery.

Question re: My Fitness Pal Tracking
vinniej3 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been tracking calories, protein, etc. w/ My Fitness Pal. I also track my exercise. I noticed for the first time tonight that when you track exercise it subtracts from your daily intake. For example, I ate around 900 calories today (very low carb but high protein), but it said since I burned about 400 calories exercising, my net calorie intake was 500. Does that mean I can eat another 400 calories (which, to be honest, would be impossible). How do the rest of you handle this?
