I'm 27. To be banded 06-26 - omg less than a week! :scalesno: Seeing everyone's results and how happy most people are, I wish I would have done this when I was 22!
-
I'm glad to hear y'all are doing well. I start my pre-op diet today with nothing but straight liquids. Less than 50 carbs and more than 50 gms of protein a day. Oh yeah, bring it on...lol. Beckiet - that granny apple smoothie was great! Thanks for all the great info guys. I feel I'm sooo ready for this and have a really good idea of what to expect. Still a little scared of the anesthesia...I've never had anything other than stitches when I was five. The countdown has finally really begun!

is it normal to be a little scared??
FarmerE replied to LovelyLaFleur's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
<p>Yup. I have a little over a week before my surgery and I'm feeling the same way. From what I understand, this is completely normal -
I'm in! :biggrin1:

BeckieT: I have no idea how I'm going to handle it. Right now I'm cutting out the caffeine prior to surgery but it's killing me come 2-4am! Especially since my squad doesn't do a whole lot. I snack as well but your right, it's mainly for the caffeine or the boredom. Hoping to go to days this next bid....we'll see how it goes. I'm guessing you are a dispatcher too?

Any other midnight shift workers out there? How do you guys cope with eating, etc with the band vs eating regular during your days off?

Length of hospital stay
FarmerE replied to Angeladarling's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have to be at the surgery center at 0600, surgery at 0730, and they are saying I should be out before noon. I hope so! -
Welcome Kaiasmom! We'll be banded on the same day! Have fun on the pre-op diet...I start next Tues for mine but that week includes a night out with my squad and a wedding in Virginia Beach. :cry Good luck and keep us updated.

I've only told my parents, my boyfriend, and three other friends. I don't want to do battle with the "easy way out" comments. I think the other part of it is that everyone has watched me each time I've been on a diet and they've seen me lose weight and then gain weight, lose it, gain it, etc....I want this to work for me and by my own progress instead of being monitored by everyone else or hear them say that I'm just going to gain it back again.

Hey all...I know I'm pretty much just a lurker at this point but wanted to say that y'all are doing great and thanks for all your advice/experiences. You are definately calming my fears. Good luck to the ones that are coming up! I've got another week before I start my pre-op diet. Went to see the anesthesiologist yesterday and the surgery center. Everyone seems really nice and have told me that they love watching people come back afterwards for their fills to see their weight drop. BeckieT - Granny Apple smoothie??? That sounds awesome...how'd ya make it?

Hey, I have told only a handful of people that I am doing this, including my parents. I know everyone has said before, it depends on what your comfort level in telling people, and that's what I'm comfortable with right now. But what can I do when one of my biggest supporters in life is the one that is throwing me doubts? I researched everything on lap banding, went to a seminar, talked with people, read a book, etc. I finally decided on doing it and told my parents about it. They were a little concerned, to be expected. I gave Mom a book and some websites to look at and asked her to come with me to the surgeon's office to ask any questions she wanted to. She has always been my biggest supporter in anything I've wanted/tried to do. She came to the doc's with me but then I found out there that she hadn't even looked into this yet. She asked questions that were basic and even I could answer. I was a little let down because usually she thinks of things that most people would overlook. I think she felt bad about not looking into it and has since gone home to read the book I gave her. Now though, she is throwing a lot of doubt my way. She says that she supports me on this and knows how hard I've tried with losing weight over the last 10 years, etc but she's saying she thinks this is going to be extremely hard, almost to the point of being too hard for me. WTF? She is also saying she's trying to figure out how to "encourage" me WHEN I start slacking, and WHEN I don't end up doing what I'm supposed to do. (Oh and by the way...she's rail thin, starves herself when she thinks she's gaining weight, and walk the dog 4-5 times a day) I'm kind of down now. Before, I was really looking forward to this and had already started making changes in my life in preparartion for this. Any advice on how to handle this or how to get myself pumped back up for this? I'm almost two weeks away from being banded...:faint:

Mine said to have very little, if any, carbonated beverages or beverages with caffeine. Something about the caffeine binding with fat cells and making it harder to get rid of it. I'm trying to cut it out now before getting banded but working midnights makes it very hard not to crave some sort of pick me up.

Thanks for the support. It's nice to know that other people understand.

Dini: YAY! I'm glad to meet someone is going the same date too! When do you start your pre-op diet and what are you allowed to eat?
-
Snoopy: I'm soo sorry about your mom. You guys will be in my prayers and keep us up to date with what's going on.

Frustrated by family...needed to vent and maybe advice?

Sorry...put in wrong topic area. Can someone help me delete this? -
Hey all! I just wanted to drop in and say hi. I'm a new kid to all this and I love the fact that you guys have so much information to share from experiences and everything else! Hmmm....about me. Well, I'm 27 years old and live in Ashburn, Virginia. I've been working midnights as a dispatcher for many years but am switching to day shift soon! I'm to be banded on June 26, 2007 at Reston Hospital Center in Virginia by Dr. Eric Pinnar through www.advancedweightlosssolutions. (sorry if I'm not supposed to be giving that info out...some sites seem to be favoring only one doctor. I personally don't care who had which doctor...as long as it worked for their situation.) I've only told about five people about this because I don't want to get into the debate of why I'm doing it. I'm 5'3 and am currently at 209 lbs. How did everyone else handle telling people? Do you or don't you? Thanks for all the information again. You guys are awesome and keep up the great work. Such an inspiration! :clap2:

LOL...yeah it is kinda rough. I know they said carbonation is going to be rough but I think they just mean initially no caffeine due to it being on the restricted list until I'm off the liquids. (I'm hoping that's what it is at least..) Yeah, I'm a caffeine addict too! Especially since I work midnight shift.

Looking for Dr. in Baltimore ,Maryland.
FarmerE replied to robinschlachman's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I don't know of any in B'more but I'm about an hour from you in Reston, VA. Check out Advanced Weight Loss Solutions :: Home. The staff there has been awesome so far and they have an outpatient surgery center at Reston Hospital. I went to a seminar with them intially and then had everything else done within a week. Just took some scheduling (on my end) to get the surgery date. Good luck to you! -
Oh...was anyone told to come off caffeine before surgery? I was advised to not have caffeine (or very little of it) after surgery and was told to start now to avoid the withdrawl headaches on top of everything else. Anyone have any hints for this? I'm having a hard time with it...

Hey all. I'll be banded June 26. Thanks for all the info!

Hey, I'm 27 and will be banded this month. I think if I would have known about it at your age, I would have done it then. Would have save me some of the depression and the heartaches of trying tons of diets, yo-yoing, and feeling like I've missed out on things.
