Anyone taking WELBUTRIN for depression?
FarmerE replied to peaches9's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on Lexapro. Doc said no problems taking it and I don't need to crush it. So far, I haven't had any issues. -
I was actually glad I didn't stay in the hospital. I was in pre-op by 0620, surgery at 0730, and home by 1030. I wasn't in a whole lot of pain, just uncomfortable. Slept in a recliner for most of the day.

Liquid Diet prior to surgery
FarmerE replied to sharon2u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor had me on a very restricted liquid diet a week before the surgery. I had to have at least 70 grams of protein and less then 50 grams of carbs. Since I'm not diabetic, I'm not sure how well this would work for you or not. -
Tube down the throat during surgery?
FarmerE replied to QueenB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a tube as well. They put it in after I was out and took it out prior to waking me up so I have no recollection of it at all. I guess I was one of the lucky ones because my throat never hurt afterwards. The only thing different that day was that my voice was a little raspy. -
I didn't have any problems afterwards. I just felt fuller a couple days afterwards with less liquids, while my stomach was swollen. I'm two weeks out and am back to normal.

Outpatient. I was in pre-op by 0610am. Surgery started at 0730am...I was home by 1030am.

I had a very restricted liquid diet for seven days prior to surgery. I had to have less than 50 grams of carbs and more than 70 grams of Protein a day. Never knew that carbs were in so many things. After surgery, I had two weeks of liquids. Honestly, I just got used to it. I think it made me fuller drinking Water and Crystal Light so much. It will get easier. Just don't focus on it so much. I think your stomach actually shrinks too so you don't get as hungry. I start mushies today and was sort of excited but actually...I'm still not hungry yet. The other benefit is that most people lose a lot of their water weight during this phase and that's a good feeling.

ja9va: How did your son's wedding go? He had a great day for it and what a wedding date...07-07-07. Lol. I didn't make the connection when you emailed me about it. Suzzzie: I have nooo medical background but doesn't the spreading mean that it's clearing up? I thought that I heard somewhere it's just the blood fading away from the hurt area. I don't have it with my port incision but for some reason, I still have a bruise where the IV was. You guys are all doing great! And now for my happy dance today:clap2::whoo: I start mushies today....doot doot dooo...I don't have to eat anymore soup...deet deet dee. YAY!

Ewww FaithMD....that's just nasty! But, out of curiosity, how was it? :hungry:

I was on Depo Provera for four years and stopped taking it back in August 2006. Had been waiting for a period...doc said that it would probably take a year for me to get one. Had the surgery on a Tuesday...Low and Behold, I got my period that Saturday. I think just having someone play with your innerds and the difference in diet makes it fluctuate some.
-
I'll be four weeks out from surgery but I was wondering about alcohol intake.... The academy is holding a DWI Detection Course and are asking for volunteers to be drinkers. It's a controlled environment and will steadily increase drinks (no shots). Would I be able to handle it for one day? Anyone's thoughts?
-
Mine told me an 60 to 90 minutes. I think this may just be one of those differences that are like the post-op diet differences.

Huntersmom: Could it be caffeine related? I used to get massive headaches if I didn't have caffeine for two days... Hey, hey, hey! I just had my first follow up appt today with the doc. Down 11 lbs! YAY! I was also given pictures of what my insides look like during the banding process. Pretty cool. I also found out that I have a 10cc band. Thanks for the information regarding the fills all. Next time I go, I'm going to start bugging him for a fill date..

I was bringing back my best friend from his quasi-bachelor party...(yes, I'm female and was the "best man" lol) and in the car with several people, he busts out with that his buddies all really "liked my personality and that they were saying how pretty my face was but..." So I finished it..."but my body sucks?" He replied with "Well, yeah. But at least it something that you can change...not like being flat out ugly to start with right?" Riiight...like I hadn't tried losing the weight before.

Congrats on that! I had UHC too but unfortunately they wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole since my employer had a wls exclusion....

I've done 90 minutes so far this week.

Hi all. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Thanks for the information on the first fills...I'm a little ways off still but maybe some sweet talking to the doc might help. Also a big fan of Big Medicine. That show is great but I feel bad for the ones that don't get approved through insurance and can't pay. I want to shake them and tell them to go for the band...much cheaper on self-pay! Now for my vent.... I got into it with my boyfriend last night. He's been away in training for the last two weeks and won't be back for another three weeks so he is missing all the surgery stuff. No big deal. He calls every night or emails to check on me. Last night we were talking on the phone and he brought up the surgery. Went into a rant about how it was an extreme move and he's not for having surgery for this etc. In more words, he went on to say that if people want to lost the weight, they can work out and eat nothing etc. Also made a comment about not eating meals with me because he's not going to eat like I have to. I was like WTF? I'm not going to be eating much different when healed, just smaller. Also, it's not like I haven't tried the exercise route with not eating, etc. I just can't KEEP it off. I just needed him to support me on this and he got mad stating that he has and he's called/emailed to check on me etc. Well...we ended up getting off the phone mad. I emailed him this morning to see if everything was ok...just a tiff type thing and part of his response was "Last night just upset me. It seems that we appear at each other at times. That when I express an opinion you think its directed at you and its not at all. This is not the first time this has happened. I am a bit frustrated." So now this has turned into something bigger than what I thought. I wrote him back and told him "I am sorry for last night though. Just a little sensitive on the subject still and it wasn't fair to get upset over your opinion. It did feel like it was directed at me though considering I'm the one that just had the surgery. And when you were talking about why doesn't someone just work out and do this...uh yeah...I've been there done that with the working out and not eating." I'm not sure about what other times he's talking about b/c I'm usually pretty level-headed. He's the one that has very strong opinions and is the type that everyone else is wrong. We have a long history of things and this last time we've been "on again" I'm scared to be happy with him for fear that he's going to yank that away from me again. Thanks for letting me rant. I needed to get that off my chest. Happy 4th of July everyone!

Will I be too sick Post opt to drive myself home 1000+ miles?
FarmerE replied to vixie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Depends on when you want to drive back. I was out of it all of surgery day and the day after wasn't much better. You also need to be careful because you can't drive on the pain meds they give you... -
How long has it been since you were banded?

Vehicle crash with moose - Abdominal contusions
FarmerE replied to RKidder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad to know you are ok. Holy smokes though! Moose jerky probably tastes pretty good..... -
Welcome to the club! I've done the ice pack for the belly and it keeps the swelling down. Also seems to keep the area from not hurting as much.

Ja9va - I'm in Ashburn. I think that's about an hour from Stafford. Yeah, it was the concert at Nissan last night. I sort of felt better thinking they were getting rained on. I know, I'm evil. I haven't seen pictures or heard back from the group yet but I know they had a good time regardless of it raining. Where'd you have your surgery done?
