Bowel Movements
skinnygirlin2013 replied to O2BSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same story and never want to be there again so I track my business like i do my H20 and protein. One other thing i've tried is glycerin suppositories. When i feel like i have to go but can't (and i'm at home), using one of them seems to fast forward things comfortably. It gradually helps over next few hours and it doesn't hurt my stomach as the MoM or Sena tea can. -
Same here, I felt so good after infusions I wish i had gotten them sooner! Mine took about 3 hours from start to finish so bring entertainment.

Is anyone able to,,,
skinnygirlin2013 replied to AddryW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll know tomorrow…bought a box of fiber one today to help with my business. I'm 7 weeks out and not having trouble with much so my fingers are crossed. I'm not going to use it as a meal necessarily as not enough protein. -

I had the same after surgery and occasionally experience it 6 weeks post op. my savior has been Zofran anti-nausea medication (prescription). It takes effect quickly and gets rid of it for me. Also, just knowing I have a bottle in the medicine cabinet helps me not freak out that it will get too bad (if that makes sense). 6 weeks out I avg about 1-2 pills a week max. Hope that helps, I'll let the vets talk about why it happens!

Best of luck to you tomorrow! I'm 6 weeks post op and am so glad I did this. The first 48 hours may be a little crazy but it's a distant memory now. My suggestion is to bring your own pillow, those hospital pillows were terrible.

Liquid Colace?
skinnygirlin2013 replied to TexasRed1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've not seen liquid, my surgeon said the capsules were ok. Good luck. -
My NUT recommends it and they sell Ostrich jerky at Surgeons office w/20g's of protein. It tastes Identical to beef. I agree w/other commenters, has material sodium and not sure when your sleeve will accept it. I'm still on soft so haven't tried yet.

Question for all you experienced sleevers out there . . .I will be taking 4, 3+ hour flights over the next few weeks and am looking for some info on anything to watch out for, does the air pressure affect the sleeve, can i eat at altitude, etc. I'l be bringing my food with me on the plane so won't rely on airplane food. Thanks for sharing your experiences. A

Throwing Up Chewble Vitamins!
skinnygirlin2013 replied to Blugirl's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
i have the same problem with the multi's, all other BA supplements work fine for me and i think they taste good. Just got the following from my NUT, thought i'd share (sorry for the long post). Celebrate Multivitamin Soft Chews (orange, very berry) – contains no Iron, no Calcium ENS Multivitamin & Calcium Drink Mix (Take 2 packets daily – contains 1,000 mg of calcium – contains no iron Multi Complete with iron - contains 36mg of iron http://www.celebratevitamins.com/shop/ Bariatric fusion Chewable Vitamin & Mineral Supplement - (take 4 chews daily) daily contains calcium, contains iron http://bariatricfusion.com/bariatric-vitamins.php EcoDrink Liquid Multivitamin - (Take Zinc + 2 mg Copper supplement in addition) – contains no iron http://www.ecodrink.com/ecodrink-daily.html Chewable Centrum (Take 2 servings) – contains no iron, no calcium Found at drug stores or online Chewable Opurity Bypass & Sleeve Optimized (take 1 daily) – contains iron http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/bariatric-vitamins/opurity-bypass-optimized-multi-vitamin.html *You can also check your local nutrition and supplement store. Here are the guidelines for choosing a Multivitamin after bariatric surgery: Multivitamin Mineral Supplement Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) Bariatric specific multivitamin in liquid/chewable form for the first three months. Three months after surgery, you may advance to a capsule or tablet form. If you choose not to take a bariatric surgery specific multivitamin and instead, take just a general, adult multivitamin, choose one that contains 100% of daily value for at least 2/3 of nutrients and take 200% (double the dose) of a general multivitamin. For all surgeries: Keep in mind that if you take 200%, it should not exceed 10,000 IU Vitamin A or 1,000 mg (1,500 IU) of Vitamin E Choose a complete formula that contains folic acid, thiamin, zinc, selenium, 2 mg copper, and iron (or iron can be taken separately) If you choose to take a non-bariatric specific multivitamin, you will also need to take an additional B50 complex In addition: Avoid time-released and enteric coating. Avoid children’s formulas as they are incomplete. May tolerate better if taken with food Not all brands are created equal There are no complete gummy vitamins, even gummies made for adults Do not mix a multivitamin containing iron with calcium supplements and take at least 2 hours apart. -

iron supplement problems - TMI
skinnygirlin2013 replied to docbree's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had the same issue with iron deficiency prior to surgery and my Doc prescribed 2 Iron infusions. I went to the hospitals infusion center and they give you an IV and it takes about 2 hours - i did that twice and numbers came back up to safe territory. My Doc said if i just did supplements it would take months. Not sure if the infusions will upset you as much as supplements but at least its quicker and possibley more effective. good luck. -

Hello Everyone . . . .First Post
skinnygirlin2013 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone, my name is Andrea and this is my first post. I am scheduled to have my sleeve on Tuesday, 5/28 at 12:55pmPT and I am so excited, so ready . . .but a little scared (normal, right?). My weight has been a struggle for the last ~10 years and I am so ready to start the next phase of my life where I have a tool that I can use to control it. To tell you how driven I was to take this step - my surgery date is 38 days from my first appointment with Swedish Weightloss Center, 48 days from the seminar I initially attended! I am very lucky to be able to do a private pay and i know that it made it so much easier than struggling with insurance. During the testing I was diagnosed as severly anemic so have been taking Iron infusions up through today in preparation for surgery. I am feeling great now and am really happy that my energy has returned as i was really fearful of how I would cope the first few weeks after surgery. I have been reading alot of posts and have my grocery list ready to get all the drink flavors, tea's, etc. that folks have recommended to help with the post-op diet. I have really appreciated all of the candor and details that many of you have provided and it has been very inspirational and educational. Thanks in advance for the support everyone. T minus 4 days!! Andrea
