What was the difference in restriction and not restriction? In other words, I am at 5cc's and I know I am close because at 6cc's I was WAY too tight. I wondering if even .2, .5 cc's can make a big difference because I'm really not feeling it too much now. Thanks!

I had my second fill yesterday and at first I was overfilled and couldn't get the water down so they took out 1cc. Today I still feel like water is hesitant to go down (kind of like I can feel it all the way down and it kind of stays in the back of my throat for a couple of seconds) but havn't had a problem with food as long as I chew well. Is this crazy? I know it will be a few days before I really know what is going on with things but has anyone had more difficulty with liquids than with foods?

Thanks! I will try to pay closer attention to timing and temperature. Now I just have to figure out if this is my sweet spot or not.

When do I get 1st fill? Please help me folks!
wanabthin replied to Liz1531's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first fill was not up to me. The surgeon said no fill until 6 weeks following surgery so I had lots of time to fill. Yes it was a LONG 6 weeks! Hang in there and talk to your doc. about what they require. -
I went for my second fill today and the nurse wanted to give me 2cc's. I asked for 3 since I live very far away and could not feel any difference after the first 3cc's last week. She agreed and put in the 3, then came the water test which I failed! I could not get the water down and it came back up. This was the first PB for me and I really will be okay if I never have to feel that again! It was terrible! Needless to say I was back on the table to have 1cc taken out putting me at the original 2 that she wanted to give me. From now on I will not argue with the professionals!

Can't believe no one is talking about this yet. So, do you think his appology was real or is he just sorry he was caught? I'm going with sorry he was caught and REALLY sorry he has to pay back the 22 million.

I'm pretty much right in the middle of bandster hell and believe me reading about it and trying to be prepared is not near the same as being there! My problem is the drinking thing. How on earth do I not drink with my meals or after my meals having done it for the past 28 years! This is sooo hard! So, there has to be a secret for not thirsting to death, so please, what is it????
-
Hi! I got my first fill yesterday and I too was worried. I was literally in and out in just a few minutes. It was so easy and amazingly it didn't hurt at all. She put 3cc in and so far I can't tell any difference at all. Most don't until you've had a few fills so don't expect too much. Of coarse you may be one of the luck ones too!

Wow! Sorry I can't answer your question, but 3months seem like a VERY long time. I'm ready to pull my hair out having had to wait 6 weeks!

Elaine - I really hope there has been enough outrage that we will not see him on a football field again, but I guess only time will tell. Also, did Whoopie really defend him yesterday on the view???? You have got to be kidding me!!! I don't care how common dog fighting is in the south, does that make it right? Is that an excuse for killing innocent dogs? If she keeps making comments like that they will be sorry that Rosie left.

Those of you that drink alcohol
wanabthin replied to PrincessChey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
About 3 weeks post op I was at a Mexican restaurant and REALLY wanted a Margaritta, I got a frozen one and started to slowly sip it. About 1/2 thru I knew I was in trouble and by the end I would have sworn I had 4 of them! It went down okay but wow, I couldn't believe how drunk I was on only one of them! This is a local place where I have drank 4 or 5 in a night before. Anyway, havn't had anything else, but this weekend is my birthday so I'll probably try again. -
An assistant principal went to the first day of school and FORGOT to take her 2 yo to the sitter and left her in the car for 8hrs in 100 degree heat!!! Apparently she did remember to get the doughnuts out of the hatch back before going in though. I have been unable to get over this! There is now this big debate about if she should face charges or if she has suffered enough over the loss of her child. I don't know about everyone else, but when I'm driving my 12 month old around I look in the back about every 5 minutes! I'm constantly interacting with him and even continue to check on him if he is sleeping. How could anyone possibly forget about their child????

Your most embarrassing fat moment (sad, funny, pathetic, turning points)
wanabthin replied to chameleon's topic in The Lounge
Wow, I have tried to block these from my memory but we all know they are still there hiding, waiting for the right time to reappear, here goes... 3rd grade another overweight girl stopped me in the hall to tell me if anyone ever calls me fat I could respond by telling them I could diet but they would still be ugly. It shocked me since no one (other than family) had directly approached me about my weight. A guy once made a comment about me sliding across the back seat of his car implying I would squash the other passenger. Another very dear guy friend also in the car tried to cover the comment but we all knew what he meant. And finally, the worst...I was at a party had been drinking a lot and had fooled around with a lot of the guys there (I know but after a bottle of vodka I tend to get a little friendly) The next day we were watching video that someone had shot and a guy that I really had a pretty big crush on came out of the bathroom after making out with me in there the person with the camera said what was going on in there? and he replied, "nothing, I don't get off on fat chicks" Everyone saw the video and I just sit there mortified trying to hide how hard it hurt. Wow, it still hurts to write it out. Then years later a no longer friend told my finace about it so I could relive it! -
I remember feeling some pressure and feeling uncomfortable with burping but nothing too bad. You can always call your doctor to check about anything that you don't feel sure about. Remember that is what you are paying them the big bucks for!

How long is recovery??
wanabthin replied to chrisks13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that everyone heals differently and I have read many many posts of people taking lots of time off of work to recover but I always think what the heck were they doing? I know that is terrible and I'm not trying to offend anyone. I had surgery on Friday and was back at work on Monday. I was also chasing after my 1 yo son all week. By about Wednesday I was feeling great and by Friday I couldn't even tell I had surgery (except for the scars of coarse). Like I said just my experience but I would see why you couldn't sing in the choir, just be sure to follow doctors orders. -
Am I going crazy? What fills the hole?
wanabthin replied to nkcaump's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It seems to me that you've answered your own question. Or at least you are on the right path. You're right, there is much more too this than eating less. Most of us didn't get here without emotions being attached to our eating. Most doctors require a psych eval before surgery but mine was not what I would call helpful. I would recommend that you follow through on finding a counselor to talk things over with and I'm not just saying that because I am one. Also, try to find one that is familiar with emotional eating and eating disorders. A bad experience can do more harm than good. Best of luck. -
Are there signs of slippage?
wanabthin replied to Susan70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
angeleyes- I was banded at Cincy weight loss center, but I had Dr. Osbourn not Mobely. I don't feel that I choose the wrong doctor or the wrong place. They have been more than happy to answer all of my questions and my surgery and recovery could not have been better. In fact three weeks post op my incisions have healed so well I have to look to find them (except for the port scar of coarse but it looks great too) and I have not had any pain since about the 3rd or 4th day post op. My point was that the post op apt was not a big deal. I feel that the care I have received has been great. I hope things go well for you too. Want2beme - Every doctor is different so there is a good chance no matter how much you research, your instructions will be different. I was only ordered to liquids (anything that would go thru a straw) for 2 weeks and then on to mushies (about 2 weeks) which even included fish and chicken. -
I was given the okay to swim at my two week post op. But every doctor is different.

Are there signs of slippage?
wanabthin replied to Susan70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to address the question about the first post op visit. I drove over an hour to get there and was in the room w/the doc. about 10 minutes. They did not even weigh me. He asked how I was feeling, what I was eating (did not seem concerned about my admission of a few cheats) and if I was taking a multi vitamin. He then looked at my incisions and I was on my way. -
I've told some and not others too. DH knows of coarse but NONE of his family. Some of my family and a few close friends. The reason I don't want his family to know is because none of them have the slightest clue about what it is like to struggle with a weight problem and I didn't figure they would really understand. I think in maybe about 6/8 months from now when there is noticable weight loss (I hope) I will probably be telling everyone but until then, there is really no point.
-
I agree, everyone is different and should follow the advice of thier personal doc. However, that being said, I had surgery on Friday and was back at work on Monday. I would say by Wednesday or Thursday of that week I was feeling almost 100% back to normal. My doc required 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks mushy following surgery however, mushy included chicken salad, tuna salad, crackers and other things I found surprising. Good luck!
-
So, I'm not quite two weeks post op and I'm struggling with the liquid/mushy phase but it is soooo much easier than the slimfast!! The problem is as I get closer and closer to real foods I'm developing a fear of PBing. I know all of the precautions but more than likely at some point I will get something stuck and I'm already freaked out by the idea of it. Will I feel like I'm choking? Can I choke to death if something gets stuck? Will I be able to breath? Someone please calm my (perhaps somewhat irrational) fears.

what if i can't do it??
wanabthin replied to REDGIRL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it is not easy! However, most all of us have been thru some type of preop diet. My preop was 4 slimfasts per day and that was it (other than water of coarse). Don't forget there is a reason for this. You will not die or pass out or wither away by not eating, it gets easier as you go on. I stuck to it probably 90% and lost 10 lbs. My surgery was a breeze and so was recovery. You can do this! Try to stay busy and post often or just read for motivation when you get hunrgy. -
Oh, the questions I'll ask! Poor doc!
wanabthin replied to wendy645's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They were not able to answer any insurance questions at my seminar because of coarse that is not the area that the surgeon deals much with. Other than that, great questions! Good luck. -
My son's first birthday will be coming up soon, we have decided on a cook out on 8/18 due to work schedules. The thing is I will just be starting mushies that weekend. DH's family does not know about the band. Any ideas of what I can make and eat that will not draw attention? Thanks!
