What is best TASTING Protein shake?
drydzynski replied to Poorehouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use a local brand (I'm from buffalo,NY) but you can purchase them online. They are a little pricey but deff worth the money! I have not found one with more protein less carbs and a little fiber than this one. My doctors office even sells it. It's called bariatric fusion. -
I am also looking for a good birth control! If you find one please let me know!

10 days post op and down 23 pounds since beginning the pre op diet! Feeling fantastic and already getting compliments for looking smaller!

Every doctor is different. Mine had me drink a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch with a food item choice ( my choices were 1/2 cup of applesauce or sugar free pudding, plain oatmeal or Light yogurt) then for dinner 2oz of lean protein & 1 cup of green veggies. If necessary another shake for an evening snack but was encouraged to avoid that.

Time off from work
drydzynski replied to spunkyirishpunk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you plan on getting disability you will need to tell your manager because you will need to get paperwork from him. You are not allowed to lift anything over 10 pounds for 4 weeks either. I work at a daycare so I regularly are picking children up, moving things and getting tackled and my doctor made me take off 5 weeks. -
My surgeon tested my blood and urine for nicotine before he scheduled surgery and again on the day of surgery. I was a heavy smoker for 5 years and was going to try to beat the system too but when I found out he would be testing me I quit cold turkey the next day. I wanted this surgery more than I wanted to smoke and I'm so so glad I did quit. I smell much better, have whiter teeth, and save a ton of money.

I will be at the meeting this October! -
"Your family member" should probably not have done that. My urine was drug tested the morning of surgery. Smoking anything also increases your chance for blood clots and a much slower recovery.

You are probably taking too big of sips. That happened to me for a while, and still does sometimes. Gas x definitely helps if it is gas pain that you are having. As for the bowel movement, as long as you are passing gas everything is fine, that means things are moving along. It is normal to not have bm's for a while.

I also have bipolar disorder so I take quite a few meds a day too. I would split all my pills in half and put them in a medicine cup for the day. Then I would slowly swallow each pill one by one. Taking about an hour to give my stomach a break. I'm 8 days out now and able to swallow my pills whole.

How many calories do you consume a day?
drydzynski replied to need2bthin!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
8 days out! My doctor constantly says the lucky numbers for the rest of my life will be 6 and 8. 60-80 grams of protein a day. 60-80 ounces of water a day. And 600-800 calories a day for the rest of my life. It's so easy and manageable. -
Liquid diet starts tomomrrow
drydzynski replied to suzbug6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the weeks before I had to start my pre op diet i took full advantage of eating. When it came time to my pre op diet I wasn't hungry. The protein shakes had kept me full, not stuffed, but satisfied. I was sooo tempted to eat the pizza my family ordered however, but I knew if I did that I wouldn't like the number on the scale the next day. I weighed myself every morning and loved seeing that in just a day I'd loose a pound, so that kept me focused. -
Nausea and fluids right after surgery
drydzynski replied to PinkBubble's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will meet your anesthesiologist before you go into surgery, make sure you tell them you get nauseas very easy. I did and she gave me a patch behind my ear before I went into surgery and she also said she would use everything she had back there to keep the nausea away and she did! I usually have nausea with pain meds too but I was given dilauded and didn't have any nausea with that. -

Shakes ahead of time?
drydzynski replied to jillian109's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've tried this before to save time and not have to mix one up EVERY time. I made a chocolate shake and when I went to drink it in the morning the color had turned a little grey. I decided to taste it anyway and it was awful! -
When does sipping get easier?
drydzynski replied to drydzynski's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I've been thinking about getting a sippy cup so that I can't accidentally gulp. That's happened a few times and that is one of the worst feelings in the world! Has anyone else used a sippy cup? -
When does sipping get easier?

Very true. Thanks guys for all your tips! -
Mornings have been the worst for me. I wake up and semi regret the surgery. I hate Having to sip every 2 seconds. But then I take a nap and feel much better in the afternoons. I can't tolerate any of the liquid meds my doctor prescribed for me ( lortab, Reglan, & some anti stomach spasm kind) so I've been just crushing Tylenol & zofran as needed. I couldn't find the prefect comfy spot until this afternoon so I'm hoping I will sleep better now. It is challenging to get in my fluids, I'm sooo thirsty and just want to gulp, but even to big of a little sip and my stomach is yelling at me. Other than all that I've lost 14 pounds since I started the pre op diet already and I am enjoying relaxing on the couch

Thanks for the tips!

Coming out of surgery I was in a LOT of pain from the gas so I started walking immediately. Then they have me some gas meds and it helped tremendously! They kept me loaded up with nausea & pain meds and I was able to get up and walk around by myself. Today I came home about 2 and have been trying to get comfortable since. Tried the bed and that was a big no no! Not enough support! So I've been moving around the couch quite a bit. I was also given 3 liquid prescriptions. They all taste awful and it is so hard to get down when you are only allowed little sips. So I've had my own little stash of zofran, gas x, & Tylenol extra strength that I've been crushing and swallowing. They say each day get better and so far that has proved true for me!

It's been a long few months (started my journey in May) and the day is finally here! Ill be heading to the hospital to check in in just a few minutes for my 12:30 surgery! I can't believe the day is here! I was not nervous at all these past few months or even weeks but this morning I'm quite shaky!
