Let's talk GAS!
skrubabilen replied to 2notbwinded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a thought, but sometimes the way we use to drink may contribute to the gas. So if you are using a straw, I would suggest stopping for a while. Be conscious of how you are swallowing liquids and try to not gulp air at the same time. Also, I found that if I spread out my drinking, say two sips (minus the air, lol) every couple if minutes, the reflux was much better. My nut said I was drinking too much at one time and that's why my reflux was so miserable. Once I changed those habits, I felt tons better. Good luck to you, it does get better! -
I feel weak ;( dry mouth, throwing up.
skrubabilen replied to Nelly1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You sound dehydrated! You need a anti-nausea med to help with the throwing up. At the every least sip some Gatorade G2 to help your electrolytes. You sound like you need to go back to the hospital for dehydration. That is a somewhat common occurrence after surgery in the first few weeks. Please be careful!! -
Am I Normal ?
skrubabilen replied to determinedsleever70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think we all struggle with that to some extent. I think it is a great break through for you to recognize this as your battle. It may help you to find a support group that is in person or maybe a therapist to help you talk through it and get stronger. You can do this!! -
6mths po w lots of acid reflux
skrubabilen replied to happydaisy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As someone who has had heartburn for years, try Protonix. Works really well! If you are having heartburn that is regular and even up in your neck, that needs to be handled sooner then later. The damage can be severe and you don't want that. Good luck! -
Nsaids with gastric sleeve?
skrubabilen replied to MsJ_RN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said that you can return to your normal meds after the stomach has healed. Just watch out for signs of ulcers. -
I use this stuff called Regular. It's all natural and I take two at night with a cup of tea. It's best for keepings regular, not so great for dealing with severe constipation until that has been resolved. It's a maintenance thing to prevent you from becoming constipated.

21 days out incision issue - Advice needed!
skrubabilen replied to devichan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call and ask your doctor first before you pull them. I was 4 weeks out when my doctor told me I could pull it out. Typically they are dissolvable stitches and a piece just pushes its way out. It's probably being held on by a thread and a little tug will separate it. The incision won't fully healed til it's dissolved or removed. Call your doc first tho! -
21 days out incision issue - Advice needed!
skrubabilen replied to devichan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I know it sounds weird but it was helpful. If anything it stays warm longer then a wash cloth! Lol just be careful and don't over heat it or you will burn yourself. AND don't touch the onion once you Remove it. YUCK! If you see any little thread sticking out, give it a tug. Once that is out, if that is the problem, you will heal right up. Good luck! -
21 days out incision issue - Advice needed!
skrubabilen replied to devichan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue. It was a little piece of absorbable thread that wasn't absorbed that kept preventing the spot from healing. Use warm compresses to draw any infection out. You can also use a piece of raw onion, warmed up a bit, and put that over the wound to draw out any infection. Antibacterial ointment tends to kill both the good and bad bacteria so it doesn't help as much as one would hope. Good luck! -
AWESOME!!! Congrats!! I can't wait to be there!!

I must say that for the first time in 5 years, I put on a size 16 and they fit!!! I didn't have to lay on the floor, suck it in and pray. They just fit. It is the best feeling ever! I am almost 7 weeks out, down 35 pounds and 9 pounds away from one-derland! If you told me at Christmas that I would be here before the 4th of July, I would have laughed at you. Just a great feeling. This surgery is the best thing I could have ever done for myself!!! So here's hope for all of you just starting, it can be amazing if you just let it!!! Waahhoooo!

Suggestions for protein
skrubabilen replied to RonaRee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Premier protein drinks are great. 30 grams of protein and about 150 cals. Best ones I have found so far. I but mine at Meijer but I think you can get them at SAMs club as well. Good luck to you!! -
Ever been called fat by a kid?
skrubabilen replied to a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My now 7 year old, when he was in Kindergarten, told me hid friends at school asked him why his mom was so fat. It hurt so bad, on so many levels. It hurt that my son had to deal with me being fat, it hurt that other kids talked about me at school and with their parents about me being fat, it made me not want to help out at school anymore because my feelings were hurt and frankly I was embarrassed. I used it as a learning tool for my son and motivation for me. I began teaching him about nutrition. I also taught him that it's ok to ask me question about anything but I better never hear him call someone fat because it hurts people's feelings. That first time of being called fat by a child has never left me and it was definitely on of motivators to make this change. As a fat person, all I ever wanted was to not be noticed. Now I technically just blend in with the crowd. It's an awesome feeling. -
Almost 2 months post op and I feel great!
skrubabilen replied to KayCTheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are soybeans still in the pod. You can find them in the frozen veggie section with salt already or without. I like the ones with the pod but I don't eat the pod, just suck the bean out after its been cooked. Once you cook them, you salt the bag, pull out your serving and enjoy! The salt on the outside gives you the saltiness and the bean on the inside gives you something to chew that's packed with protein. YUM! -
Can't till when I am full!
skrubabilen replied to momofjal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I first get the burps where it feels like food is stuck in between. If I push past that, then I break out in the sweats. If I push further, I get very, VERY nauseous. Never pushed past that but I'm guessing the next step is throwing up. :/ -

What's your calorie intake?
skrubabilen replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 6 weeks out and my sleeve is on the tight side so I get about 600 calories a day. My doctor wants me to get in at least 800 but more like 1000 to help keep my energy up. Moving to soft foods is definitely harder because the bulk if the protein fills you up much faster then the liquids. At 600 cals a day, I feel like poop. So my advice would be to keep tracking and swap out a shake or two for your soft foods and keep cals around 800-1000. Hopefully you will feel fantastic AND keep losing weight! Good luck to you!! -
Stich Poking Out!
skrubabilen replied to Collegegang77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a tiny piece of stitch poking out and that incursion became inflamed and infected. At my 5 week appointment Tuesday, they told me if I see it, yank it out because that area won't heal until its gone. BUT I would TOTALLY call them FIRST. They said sometimes the thread isn't tucked in right and just doesn't dissolve like the rest. -
TWO WEEK LIQUID PRE SURG DIET ANNOYING!
skrubabilen replied to lvnlern@cox.net's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, theres a part of me that thinks they do that just to prepare you and the liver thing is just an excuse. I can say from experience that it definitely helps you prepare for post op both mentally and physically. It helps your body star shaking some if the cravings so it isn't so bad post op when you truly can't veer off the diet. It also helps you figure out how you are going to handle the social situations. Post-op is no joke and its hard. That first week, while your body is adjusting, you still feel hungry with both tummy hunger and head hunger. It's not an easy transition at first. The two week pre op helps that because in case you mess up, it's not life threatening yet. Also, a tip that helps is cut the caffeine and pop now because if you don't, you will be in a world of misery. I'm now 5 weeks out and far better adjusted but I'm sooooo glad that's all behind me! Good Luck to you!! -
No worries. Very soon your body will begin its own cleanse from the anesthesia, IV fluid and all liquid diet. So be prepared. Your body will most certainly take care of it all on its own

If its the incision glue, leave it be. But if its the glue from tape or bandage edges, I used oil to remove it. Aegean oil, coconut oil, even olive oil will work. Just leave the actual incision alone. Good luck!!

Annoyed...gained three pounds
skrubabilen replied to varg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said at minimum I should be getting 800 cals, closer to 1200 when exercising. I'm only 5 weeks. Might help to bump up the healthy calories to keep up with your impressive work out regime. Good luck to you.
