I have a half glass of wine from time to time... No issues (knock on wood) and I'm still losing 4-5lbs/week. Every body type is different but my support group I go to at UCSD there are many people who have occasional wine or even nightly and with the proper diet it has not affected anything. Take this with a grain of salt however and I would suggest listening to your doctor.

The first 3 days are miserable, BUT days 4-6 get significantly better... There is a light at the end of the tunnel so hang in and find reassurance in knowing that:)

lets be honest, 1 week post op
SD__Mini replied to erikahdz2005's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 weeks post op today and onto the "puréed" stage. I also had the pre-op liquid diet for 4 WEEKS which was such a joy:) Truth: My opinion is that every body type is different and reacts differently. There are some things you should plain just not eat right now (fried foods, tough meets, soda, alcohol etc) but others I feel are in the grey area. I'm on puréed foods and had a very small piece if deli turkey (size of my pinky). I chewed and chewed, took it very slowly, listened to my body and I feel great. I've had a few veggies that have been so steamed they melt in my mouth and then I chewed and chewed and chewed. I think you are the only one who knows if its worth it and how your body is healing. Of course you should be careful, but no judgement here;) good luck! -
So... I am 12 days post op, surgery went very well mild discomfort but nothing extreme. The only problem I am having is that I AM HUNGRY?!?! I have read all about head hunger and have tried talking myself out of it, talking to my NUT and to my therapist but I promise you guys I am really actually just hungry? Is this weird? Of course I find once I eat several bits of something I'm good but then I'm hungry again a couple hours later? I was on the full liquid diet for 30 days pre-op and am still on it until Thursday. I'm hoping when I start puréed foods Thursday maybe hunger will cease fire? Please let me know your thoughts as I just can't wrap my head around it. Thank you in advance! Oh and pre-op weight 284, today I weight 255.

how do you feel when you eat too much...
SD__Mini replied to jmarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nauseous... Just plain sick to stomach, need to upchuck, good old fashioned nauseous! -
Hey Guys/Gals! I have 2 questions for this group and would love some feedback. Sleeved May 30th, Start weight 284, Pre-op 268, Today 255. 1. My surgery went perfectly, no vomiting, gas pain bearable, up and waking just fine and have an appetite although significantly decreased. WITH that said however, I am finding it very challenging/confusing to tell when I should stop eating. Let me clarify: I eat some Soup (maybe 120cc's so not much at all) and I feel comfortable and then full so I stop. Then all of a sudden I start to feel nauseous out of the blue. I don't throw up and it's controlled with meds given to me by the hospital but I hate feeling that way. It's like I don't feel like I'm eating too much at the time but then it hits me? Is this normal? Anyone understand what I'm talking about? This doesn't happen with all liquids, mainly soup, milk etc (but not yogurt?!). 2. Today was my first day out of the house! My fiancé and I went furniture shipping for our July move. Well long story short we need a new mattress and while I was testing one out, I must have sat up too quickly, but all of a sudden I got a very sharp sudden pain in my left upper quadrant of my stomach (under my ribs on the left side). Now I am very sore in that area and when I move a certain way it is very painful. Maybe I just tweaked a muscle or a bruise or one of my incision sites? Obviously if the pain keeps up ill go see my doctor but just wondering if anyone has any insight. Thanks for all of your time in advance and congrats to everyone on their own journey's!

4 days post up and I am not hungry... AT ALL
SD__Mini replied to Ana87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lmao! You're not alone. I'm 10 days post op and also very hungry!! What the hell?! I mean after I eat several bites I get full faster but man I would kill to be off liquids and eating real good again. Nothing bad I just want some salmon and veggies!! Just something dear lord!! Haha just had to say that aloud for once. -
My surgeon said any leg pain post op specifically around the calf could be a result of blood clotting. Have you been waking enough? If not I would suggest seeing your doctor if it doesn't go away or worsens. Definitely not something you want to mess around with... Hope that helps and I hope you get better!

Hey I got sleeved on the 30th and am +1lbs. I wouldn't worry about it at all. My doctor said I have so much Fluid in me and am so swollen still its very normal. Great job with Protein I'm still working on it! I'm on clear liquids but trying to down Isopure... Best of luck:)

Hey there, first, congrats on your new tummy! Everyone on here is so brave it's amazing. I am 6 days post-op and I have to tell you I REALLY started to feel better on day 5-6. The first 3 days were the hardest for me by far, but with the appropriate pain meds, forcing myself to get up and walk a bit (prevents blood clots), and taking the right stool softener really made a difference. I was prescribed collace but found that miralax worked better. I also was prescribed liquid Vicodin which I am now only taking 1x per day. This will get better for you:) congrats again!

Getting sleeved on Thursday May 30th in San Diego, anyone else this week? The nerves are certainly kicking in right about now...
-
Congrats!! Yes I am finding it hard to focus on anything else. I had a breakdown the night before last, questioning if I'm making the right choice. Then I realized I knew it was the right choice I was just fearful of how it would change the life of those I loved as well (my fiancé in particular).

Day 3 Post Op- Can I have Protein Shakes?
SD__Mini replied to QueenAmandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on the diet your doctor specifies, ask him/her? I know for 1 week after my surgery I cannot have anything but clear liquids (clear liquids are not most Protein shakes) however you CAN buy Isopure which is a clear liquid form for a protein shake (40g protein). Good luck! -
January 2013 Sleevers
SD__Mini replied to Vanessa30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey... I'm getting sleeved on Thursday so I can't speak to the feeling post-op however I've been an athlete through college, my entire family consists of personal trainers etc, plus I've attended EVERY support group my clinic offers at UCSD... So my thoughts for what they are worth: 1. I've heard from many many people that at some point on your post sleeve weight loss journey you will hit a plateau. Some go a week - 6 weeks with no weight loss. This is due to a lot that is biologically happening to your body. In essence your body is saying "Hold the frickin phone, what is this, I'm going to hold whatever I get." The good news is this will subside once your body understands this is the new normal and your loss will continue. 2. From experience, it sounds like your working out a ton! Have you checked your BMI? The weight may still be there in numbers because my guess is you are gaining muscle weight. How do you feel? Are you more tone? 3. 57lbs in 4-5 months is wonderful!! The average person is lucky to lose 10lbs/month. Sounds to be like you're right on track. I absolutely understand you are frustrated and cannot say I wouldn't be the same, but my advise is to stay on track, focus less on the pounds and more on the positive and amazing changes it sounds like you are making. The rest will follow. Congrats btw! -
I am having surgery on Thursday (May 30th) and have been on a liquid diet for 4 weeks in total! I am shocked and slightly jealous lol that this seems to not be "the norm". Then again a huge lesson I have learned on this site is there isn't really a "norm". Every program can be different and everyone's body can also react differently. Cheers to the journey:)

Hi everyone:) this is my first thread, I've been reading some of these posts for the past two weeks and am excited to join this amazing support group! I am getting sleeved on the 30th of May and am going through a roller coaster of emotions. Surprisingly my biggest concern (besides the obvious concerns with surgery) is after the weight comes down, what's the likelihood of excess skin? Any recommendations for tightening it both pre/post op? I was an athlete my entire life and always in great shape until I quit all sports in college and gained 100 lbs (thank you dominos and alcohol! Lol). Anyway, any and all suggestions are welcome and I wish you all the best on your individual journeys.

I Can't Wait To Not Have To...
SD__Mini replied to BrickHouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait to: 1. Not get a panic attack every time I fly because I'm waiting for the day they tell me I needed to buy two tickets. 2. To be able to go on those stand up electric carts when I visit family in Hawaii. 3. Do do multiple activities like scuba dive without being over the weight limit.... **** I can't wait to not have to LOOK UP THE WEIGHT LIMITS ON EVERYTHING 4. Can't wait to buy my first paid of 7 jeans 5. Can't wait to not be the reason my friends, family and fiancé always walk slower or take the "shorter" but less scenic route home because they know I can't walk that far. 6. I can't wait to not hurt when I wake up or stand for long periods at a time. 7. I can't wait to have more energy to go on nightly walks by the beach with my dog. A. I can't wait until I'm not embarrassed to go To the beach or pool in general. Just to name a few:) -
So I'm not a smoker but over the past couple months I have gotten into the "e-cig" thing. Does anyone know or has anyone heard if this would be bad pre-op? Is smoking forbidden pre-op? I know it's just vapor and nicotine but I of course want to make sure I'm not doing anything that could cause complications. My DOS is May 30th so coming up!
-
Ah no didn't take it that way at all no worries!
-
I am also looking to lose 100-110lbs:) good luck to you as well!!!!
-
Thank you all for that information!! I am 1 week away from my surgery and my doctor hasn't asked me about smoking nor has he tested me for it. With that said ill just stop to prevent any potential complications... Gosh I hope this doesn't effect my surgery date!!!!!!! Re: Lipstick lady Lol I started smoking because they took away my wine haha:) been going through a lot personally and found the e-cig relaxing and also helped seriously as an appetite suppressant. With that said though, I haven't been smoking for more than 2-3 weeks so I'll just stop until after the healing and go from there!

That all makes sense, thanks for the feedback!
